After writing the first six books in her FBI series between 1998 and 2008, Gardner went on to write 11 books in the D.D. Warren series, along with six non-series books. Now she finally returns with another Quincy and Rainie story at the insistence of her long-time fans. THIS fan is delighted, as these characters are my favorite of all her books.
Introduction
Pierce Quincy is now a retired FBI profiler and Lorraine (Rainie) Conner is a retired police detective. They are married and also partners in a Cold Case or weird murders consulting business, helping small local police departments who lack the personnel and equipment to handle a major violent crime. In Right Behind You they have also been foster parents for the past three years to Sharlah, a 13-year-old orphan girl they are soon to adopt. Suddenly they are involved in a case that hits far too close to home.

Oh! wow, this one sounds like suspense on top of more suspense. I do like a good mystery and suspense story. I have never read any of her books, but it seems like I need to start. Thanks Pat :)

DeleteI must say, the title alone gives me chills! I guess it is a natural fear that someone is right behind us. This sounds like a great mystery, but also a sad story. I have no sympathy for abusive parents, but I definitely care about the children. I think I would need to go back to the beginning of the series to appreciate and "know" the main characters fully, but it is quite the temptation to start with this book.
ReplyDeleteAlthough this series has continuing characters, each story is individual. In other words, you can start with the last book and still know what is going on. Then later read the earlier books. :) Thanks for your visit to my book review, Mouse.
DeleteI tend to avoid the thriller genre, although I do love the J.D. Robb “In Death” series. Despite my personal aversion to violent-themed books (or movies), which I find very stressful to read/watch, this story does sound quite compelling! I’ll share your review with my husband, who enjoys a good thriller.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, it is interesting that you - who doesn't like scary stories - enjoys the J.D. Robb series of books. I am a HUGE mystery/suspense/thriller genre reader - almost all the books I read are in that category - yet for some reason I do not like J.D. Robb. I've read a few, but prefer other authors. Each to his/her own, I say.

She's an avid reader, and thank goodness for that because that's how she's coping with the isolation of quarantine right now. This book would absolutely be a book mom would love.
ReplyDeleteInteresting story about your interesting note. Our book club read a book called The Huntress and a friend's husband picked it up for her. At our book club meeting, she discovered she had read the wrong book even though the book she read was called The Huntress!
