Lightweight Acrylic Cake Plate with Dome Lid Reviewed

Domed Acrylic Cake Plate
Let me start by saying, I absolutely love my new acrylic cake plate!

Domed Acrylic Cake Plate

I rarely buy anything for myself.  I usually keep a running wishlist for special occasions. Normally, if I want something new for my kitchen, I add it to the wishlist and try to forget it.  That way, my family can select things they know I will want and I can be surprised by a new gadget, utensil, or cookware.

For some time now, I have been searching for a lightweight, pretty covered cake plate that I can easily move from the refrigerator to the table.  For decades, I have used my domed glass cake plate, but in recent years I have noted that it is heavy for me to carry.

I hate the way wrap or foil messes up cake frosting and much prefer the domed cake plates, so I have continued to use the glass domed cake plate in spite of the weight.  My glass cake plate is also footed, which makes it rather tall.  I have to move my refrigerator shelf to accommodate the height, which is another inconvenience.

When I found this footless acrylic domed cake plate on Amazon, I thought I would try it.  I wasn't sure it would work well for me and I didn't want to wait for Christmas to receive it.  With several birthdays to celebrate in October & November, I really needed the cake plate now.  Therefore, I bought it for myself.

Because it turned out to be exactly what I wanted and needed, I wish I had waited for a beloved family member to gift it to me so it would have that memory attached to it.  I'll have to settle for the memories of the birthday cakes that were first served and stored in it.

The Lightweight Acrylic Domed Cake Plate

This cake plate is perfect!  It is very lightweight, almost feather light.  Because it is not footed, it easily slides into my refrigerator without having to adjust the shelf height, even with the handled tall dome.

I was concerned that the dome would not be tall enough, however, it easily accommodates our two layer lemon cake (shown below) or chocolate cake without touching the frosting.

I use a glass plate under my cake because they turn easily on the table when frosting a cake.  The dome is tall enough and the plate is wide enough to accommodate the plate and the cake together.  As you can see in the picture below, my husband used a dinner plate for the lemon birthday cake he made for me.  The cake is not touching the lidded dome on the top or the sides, and there is plenty of room for the dinner plate underneath the cake.

The diamond pattern of the plate itself is very pretty on the table and compliments any dessert.

I am thrilled to have a lovely domed cake plate that will protect my frosted cakes and that I can easily move from the fridge to the table.  The dome does get fogged between fridge and table, but that is easily wiped away with a paper towel, leaving the cake in a clear and lovely domed display.

  1. I remember how heavy glass cake plates were, Mouse. So am glad to hear
your new acrylic cake plate with dome lid solves that problem. Plus, that it fits so well in your refrigerator. I should check it out. Next time you bake one of your delightful cakes, let me know and I'll be over to see for myself (while having a slice of delicious cake!). Oh, well, I guess I could just get my own cake plate --- LOL.

    1. There is a chocolate cake under the dome in the fridge right now! Come on over!!! I'll start the coffee :) Since I got my acrylic domed cake plate, it has been in almost constant service. We really do have back to back birthdays between Sept & Dec and you know I bake the birthday cakes, except for my own.

  2. Some how our cakes never seem to make it to our cake plate. We have the same problem because ours is footed so we have to move things around to get it into the refrigerator. So glad you found one that you like and works for you. I'll pick Pat up on my way and we'll both be over some some cake.

    1. lol Sam! I'm sure Elf will appreciate the ride. Now that so many of our family members have moved to other cities/states for jobs, we tend to have more leftover cake than we did in the past. But, that is no problem! Those of us who are still in town don't mind gabbling down the leftovers and I do appreciate having a lightweight cake plate for storage between dessert times.

  3. Many years ago, I gave up on our heavy, footed glass cake stand with a tall, domed glass lid because of the weight, height, and potential for disaster if either the pedestal stand or lid were accidentally dropped or knocked over.

I replaced it decades ago with a (now discontinued) Joy Mangano Piatto Bakery Box, a tall, hexagonal, opaque plastic cake storage box that collapses flat for storage.

Your clear acrylic domed cake plate is a much nicer solution! Even though it doesn’t fold down compactly for storage like mine, I love that it’s transparent, so you can see at a glance how much cake is left; pretty enough to put on a dinner or buffet table; lightweight enough to transport a heavy filled and frosted layer cake easily; and made of crystal clear, glass-like, shatterproof acrylic with the lovely faceted “diamond” handle and faux carved glass plate.

A beautiful and practical gift, indeed, for anyone who loves baking cakes, as we do! Thanks so much for the wonderful recommendation.

    1. Collapsible for storage would be awesome! My cake plate hasn't been empty since I got it, but I do know that time is coming. I really do like the pretty presentation of this cake plate that can be moved from fridge to table.

  4. This looks like something my daughter would love! She is a cheesecake baker extraordinaire and ends up cutting up her cakes in order to put them into the refrigerator. This would definitely be a much nicer solution. Thank you for finding this lovely item for me!

    1. My cheesecakes are especially appreciative of the coverage! I have a 9" cheesecake springform pan that I use, but this cake plate could easily accommodate a 10" too. It really is the perfect size for a cheesecake or pie.

  5. This looks really nice. I just broke my glass cake displayer that I had for several years. This looks like a great alternative.

    1. Oh, Mary Beth! I am so sorry to hear that your glass displayer broke. I know how distressing that is. I don't think the acrylic would break, but even if it did, I suspect it would be a crack and not a full break, which would be an easier issue to deal with.

  6. I have a heavy glass one that sits filled with goodies usually - it's an absolute part of our home for decades. We've chipped it though, so I love the idea of an acrylic cake dish. Looks fantastic.

    1. I LOVE my glass domed cake plate, which was a gift from my brother & sister-in-law! Rest assured, it has not been replaced. I will still use it for muffins and baked goodies that don't require refrigeration.

  7. I am so glad this acrylic cake plate with dome lid worked out to be perfect for your needs! The ability to place it in the fridge without having to move the shelves around is a big plus. Also, it is great that it is lighter for you to carry yet certainly big enough for the cakes. So this looks like a great product for anyone who loves making cakes. Have to say I was a little sidetracked looking at your gorgeous cakes lol! Thank you for your review and recommendation.
