USPS Informed Delivery Reviewed

Ever wonder what the mail will bring? Are you trying to track a lost package or envelope? Try the Informed Delivery Service offered for free by the United States Postal Service. Incoming mail and packages are scanned by the USPS and the images are delivered to you everyday via email.

USPS Informed Delivery

Email Delivery

Every morning around 8:00 a.m. I receive an email with the scanned images of incoming mail. Incoming envelopes and some direct mail flyers are scanned, larger junk mail is not included.

I have found the service to be very accurate as to what is actually delivered and of course shout out to a wonderful mailman we are lucky to have.

Packages

The service also tracks any incoming packages. This has been very helpful when trying to track a package ordered online, but the package is mailed via two delivery services. I have found this to be happening more and more frequently where one major delivery service hands off the package to the local USPS for delivery.

When you track the delivery route at times it has been difficult to determine when/if the package is being delivered and by which service.

Looking For A Specific Piece Of Mail?

This service is wonderful if you have an important piece of mail you are expecting or if unfortunately a piece of mail is expected, but has not arrived.

  1. Tracking packages has long been important to me, Tracey, between my Etsy Store and my eBay site. Plus any packages I send to my faraway grandsons. So having this informed delivery service from the USPS is very helpful. Thanks so much for the information.

    1. Huh! I didn't realize that Informed Delivery from the post office lets you know what mail is coming to your mailbox! Wow. I signed up and got my first message today. It is SO helpful because my mailbox is at the curb and I seldom see the mailman/mail lady stop, so the only way I have of knowing if I received mail on any given day is to walk out to the curb and check my mailbox. With snow and freezing temperatures, checking and finding an empty mailbox is NOT fun. This way I know if it is worth venturing outside on a cold snowy day! :) Thanks SO much for explaining the benefits of this service, Tracey.

  5. I've been using the USPS Informed Delivery Service for a while and really appreciate getting the notifications in my email inbox each day, not only of what mail and packages are due to be delivered that day, but also of what packages will be arriving soon, along with the tracking links. I second your recommendation wholeheartedly!

  7. I had no idea this existed, but that's probably because I live in Canada - I think we have something similar, I think? I know I can track certain packages, so this sounds different - I'm going to have to check - you have me curious about this!

  9. It sounds like a great service, but it's only as good as the people can make it. We often don't get everything that shows up on the informed delivery and sometimes get things that didn't show up on the informed delivery. I've had nothing show up only to get text messages from package tracking telling me that packages have been delivered. The text message delivery notice through the post office has it's flaws as well. I understand getting 3 maybe 4 texts. Label created, item received, out for delivery, and delivered. But I often get 5 texts the day of delivery 4 of which state that it will be delivered that day, out for delivery, that day between 7 and 9, between 10 and 2 and, and then finally it's been delivered. And even that is hit and miss because there are options and not all carriers take the time to make it right.. front door and around the side of the house by the garage door are not the same thing. But hey, I've never had USPS place a package marked heavy right up against an outward opening door like UPS has done.

  10. in Pasadena, CA and the informed delivery service is terrible. The only time they can manage to get an image of your mail is if its JUNK mail. Huge postcards can be imaged but not letters. If I paid for this service I’d cancel it.
