A Song for the One Who Makes You a Better Person

A Song for the One Who Makes You a Better Person

In your relationship, does your significant other make you a better person?

Do they bring out the best in you and inspire you to tap into your better self? Country Music Artist Chris Young sings about the power of love and its ability to bring out his better self in his moving hit song 'Who I Am With You.'

(Lyrics) Who I am with you is who I really want to be. You're so good for me, And when I'm holdin' you, it feels like I've got the world in my hands; yeah, a better man is who I am with you.

You can listen to this moving song below:

Dad recently passed away, and I often think of my mom sitting in her chair, with Dad's empty chair beside her, and how she no longer gets the joy of those little things, and it breaks my heart.

One of the many things I've learned with my dad passing away is to treasure our loved ones even more. I'll never ever get over the death of my father; it has left the largest void in my soul, and because of this deep understanding that nothing lasts forever, both my husband and I appreciate each other a little bit more these days.

Added Bonus Country Song: Be sure to catch the amazing song, 'Dirt' by Florida Georgia Line! The song speaks to the value of Love and Life and its true meaning - You can read about it and listen to it here. The song is rising up the country charts and is currently my favorite. The video is extremely moving.

    1. Thanks Cynthia, with country music it's always the personal stories that make it so meaningful isn't it - I believe Chris Young wrote this for his wife (for their wedding, I think)

  4. Thank you, Barbara! You are right, the person we are with can make us or break us. I am so sorry you lost your dad, that's a tough one to deal with, at least it has been for me. But, I am thankful that I found someone (just a few years before dad passed away) that makes me laugh all day long. What a great feeling!

    1. Coletta, I'm sorry you lost your dad too, it's a loss that nothing on this earth can ever replace. So hard. Glad you found someone who makes you laugh! What a difference when we get to do that at least once a day!

  6. We had quite a few special songs over the years -- two from the beginning were 'our' songs and other songs have had special meanings through the years. In 1980 in California we spent a year out of work. While 'getting by' and job searching, "You and Me Against the World" by Helen Reddy became our 'theme song-fight song'.... however you want to call it. A song to help and keep us motivated and strong. Music can be there for you in many ways, even when there is just one of you left to remember.....

    1. Awe, that's sweet. Like you, we've battled some pretty hard times...rose to the top, then had to fight our way up again...typical stories for us that you read about in the movies. A good fight song works too! By the way, as crazy as it sounds, I used to rock the boys at night to a series of songs, and this song was one of them! 'You and Me Against the World' !! I used to sing this constantly!

  7. Chris Young's song reminds me of the saying 'Behind every good man is a good woman' and that seems to suit you wonderfully!

    1. Thanks Ruth, it hasn't been an easy 30some years, but we managed to stay together, and in the end for us I guess it was the friendship and laughter that sealed the deal.

    1. So true, I think when we actively seek out being around those who bring out the best in us, the day just feels better doesn't it
