Halloween Apparel & Accessories to Wear All Day

Many of us enjoy celebrating Halloween all day, not just at night for parties or trick or treating.  Some of us even wear our favorite Halloween accessories throughout the week to work, to school or simply when we go to the grocery store.  There are many ways we can dress up an everyday outfit with Halloween jewelry, scarves, sweaters, t-shirts or perhaps by carrying a Halloween purse.  These items are all a fun way to extend Halloween beyond the evening costumes.

Halloween Crafts

Little Pumpkin Held by Fleece Ghost Below
Halloween is the perfect month to get creative!

Halloween crafts can range from really cute to down right scary.  There is definitely plenty of  room to play when crafting for Halloween.

Some kits and crafts featured here today are easy enough for children to make.  Some were created with the elderly in mind, but all of these Halloween crafts are designed to be a lot of fun to make and display for Halloween.

I feel certain there is a Halloween craft here for a crafter of any age.

Halloween Crafts for Kids

Halloween Perler Bead Kits

Perler Bead kits are designed for children to make a fast and fun craft.  They do require a parents supervision so this is a great Halloween project for a parent and child to make together.

There truly are a variety of Halloween Perler Bead kits available.  You will find my instructions for how to make  Halloween Perler Bead kits, as well as a selection of kits in my article,  Halloween Perler Bead Kits.  If you haven't worked with Perler Beads before, you will be surprised at how easy it is to make an awesome design.

Here are a few more great Halloween craft projects for anyone published by a fellow contributor, The Savvy Age!

Halloween Crafts for the Elderly

Mbgphoto has been kind enough to share some easy craft ideas in her article Halloween Crafts for the Elderly.

With several years of volunteer experience to rely on, she offers her favorite suggestions for crafts that are easy for the elderly to make.

Intricate patterns or small piece projects are often too tedious for an elderly patient, but they still love to create and craft.  It really is imperative to select craft projects and kits that are appropriate for their limitations.  You will want these projects to be fun for them, not taxing or upsetting because the selected craft emphasizes their reduced skills.

Many of Mary Beth's (mbgphoto) Halloween crafts would also be fun for children.

Halloween Crafts for the Crafter

How to Make a Halloween Ghost with Fleece

A great project for any age, or even skill level, is to make a Halloween Ghost with Fleece.

This is also a great family project.  While a parent would need to handle the glue gun, a child could easily cover the Styrofoam with the fleece and also design the face of the ghost.

This article is an actually step by step tutorial for How to Make a Halloween Ghost with Fleece.  It also includes plenty of pictures of the creation process.

Here are a few more crafty ideas for Halloween offered by a fellow blogger, Jade.

Halloween Beaded Cross Stitch Kits

How to Make a Halloween Beaded Cross Stitch Pin
My personal favorite Halloween craft has to be the beaded cross stitch ghost pin.  I made this little ghost pin several years ago as a special Halloween treat for my favorite trick-or-treater.

This particular project is easy for someone with cross stitch experience and it is a great introduction to adding beads to your cross stitch projects.  It would also be an excellent cross stitch beginner project simply because of it's smaller size.

Click the image or link to find a step by step tutorial for How to Make a Halloween Beaded Cross Stitch Pin.

The tutorial features the ghost pin, but the basic instructions would be applicable to any beaded cross stitch pin kit.

Top 7 Halloween Ornaments for Your Halloween Tree

This 4-foot black Halloween tree would make a great home for your Halloween ornaments.
I just had to share this awesome Halloween tree. Isn't it cool? Problem is, it's empty. Maybe you could use it. I mean, you have to put your Halloween ornaments somewhere, right? Wait a minute. You do collect Halloween ornaments, don't you? Whether you have a collection already or if you've been waiting to get started, then you're in the right place. Read on to learn more.

Collecting Halloween ornaments is becoming so popular, it's almost scary!  More and more people are decorating their home or their office with Halloween trees - and the more ornaments, the better.  To decorate your Halloween tree, choose ornaments with a theme or mix and match using all the ornaments that you love.

If you haven't already, why not start a Halloween ornament collection for your family?  For younger children, Disney or Peanuts ornaments are fun.  Once they're older, add black cats, ghosts, or other favorite Halloween figures.  Chances are you'll be able to find their (or your own) favorite character in the form of a Halloween ornament that they can reuse every year on their very own Halloween tree. Or add them all to a big Halloween tree that the whole family can enjoy.

Cute or Creepy?

The choice of cute Halloween ornaments only, creepy ghoulish ones, or a mixture of both is entirely up to you. In fact, some people prefer to avoid the scariest themes of Halloween and focus more on a family-friendly theme with a harvest tree that can carry them right into Thanksgiving. You'll find plenty of ornaments designed to celebrate fall and the harvest season. And no worries about nightmares!

Here are some of the most popular collectible Halloween ornaments and themes.

1.  Radko Halloween Ornaments. You may be familiar with Christopher Radko blown glass ornaments with a Christmas theme. You might not have known it, but Radko makes Halloween ornaments, too. They're top quality, always with beautiful designs. For 2015, here's the blue skull ornament, La Calavara. Though actually designed for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations, nothing says creepy Halloween like a skull. Actually, with its glittery design and hand-painted cool colors of blue, purple, and silver, this one is really pretty and hardly scary at all. Well, maybe a little bit. In any case it's a great addition to a Radko ornament collection.

2.  Peanuts Halloween Ornaments. Everyone loves Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Lucy, and the rest of the gang and there are plenty of Halloween ornaments that celebrate the Peanuts comics series. I love this Charlie Brown O'Lantern ornament. You'll probably find the most choices from the Peanuts Halloween collection on eBay, especially if you're looking for something specific, perhaps a keepsake ornament from a particular year that you're missing from your collection. Just click the link then customize the search if you don't see exactly what you have in mind.

3.  Hallmark Halloween Ornaments. Don't you just love this cookie cutter mouse ornament? It's actually from 2015, from Hallmark. If you didn't make it to the store to get yours, or if there's another that you've missed through the years, once again I recommend eBay for Hallmark Halloween ornaments. You'll find Peanuts ornaments here, too, so there's an overlap in the results, but Hallmark also features the Hauntington Collection, a zombie series, and much, much more. There's something for everyone with an emphasis on "cute."

4.  Witch Ornaments. Ah, the ever popular witch. I was drawn to this Kurt Adler Pixiepies witch ornament from 2012. You'll find plenty more witches to choose from at this link. Note that this is a big ornament at 13 inches, so she might not fit on your Halloween tree, but she'd look great hanging from a doorway or perhaps a chandelier. (Always check the description so you'll know what size ornament you're getting, especially if you have a tiny tree.)

5.  Black Cat Ornaments. I'm a cat lover, so black cat ornaments really appeal to me. I like glass ornaments, too, so that's why I chose this Halloween kitty to feature. Prefer something that's not breakable? Or maybe a cat that's part of a set? Then check these black cat ornaments at Amazon.

6.  Ghost Ornaments. When I think of ghosts, I think of friendly ghosts like this one, with smiles on their faces. We have some overlap from above again here, as this is a ghost ornament from Hallmark's 2014 collection. I think it's adorable. And again, I found the best selection of Halloween ghost ornaments on eBay. Check out the link and see which one you like best.

7.  Disney Halloween Ornaments. You might recognize these Disney Haunted Mansion Singing Ghosts from your last visit to a Disney theme park. These are from 2013 and would make a wonderful addition to your Halloween tree if you're a Disney family (I know there are plenty of you out there!). You'll find lots more familiar characters when you check out more Disney Halloween ornaments right here.

Those are the top seven Halloween Ornament themes for your consideration. Did you choose a favorite? If you're still looking or haven't found just the right theme yet, then give this link a try. Then let me know what you chose in a comment below. I'm dying to find out!

Let's Review The 'Happy' Part of Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween Garden Flag
Happiness is a Friendly, Cute, and 'Not-So-Scary' Halloween

The word Halloween was first used in the 16th Century and throughout the ages it became associated with imagery that leans toward Gothic and horror and the supernatural associated with the night. So such things as Dracula and Frankenstein, scary ghosts and haunted houses became symbols of this harvest-time holiday in books & films, costumes, parties and products. It all makes me wonder what happened to the "Happy" in the holiday known as Halloween.

For a 'Not-So-Scary' Halloween, lets look at some friendly, fun and cute items and have a truly "Happy Halloween".

A Happy Halloween...

Can Be Found Everywhere!

On Friendly Ghosts...

Little ghost is friendly and cute - He might 'scare' himself, but his cuteness just makes you want to smile!

The Best Ghost is a 'Friendly' Ghost

Ghosts and Haunted Houses have long been associated with Halloween and are intended to Scare us. But wait, what about Casper, the Friendly Ghost? Ghosts can be friendly and fun too.

*Casper first appeared as 'The Friendly Ghost' in a 1939 children's book and a 1945 animated cartoon.

A Pair of Plush Ghosts...

Plush Toy Ghosts on Etsy

Boo & Boo-ette

Boo and Boo-ette are a pair of the friendliest Ghosts you'll find anywhere. They can be friendly plush playmates for a child, or a fun Fall/Holiday decoration

Boo and Boo-ette are handmade in crochet of white acrylic yarn. The heads are lightly stuffed with soft polyfil. Their eyes are plastic 'safety eyes', giving them that Amigurumi personality. They are the creation of a crochet crafter from Georgia and can be found in her Etsy Shop Coastal Crochet Crafts.

Spooky Ghost Washcloth

Ghost Novelty Washcloth

A ghost isn't really 'spooky' when it's in the form of a hand-crocheted cotton washcloth!

A fun novelty washcloth in the shape of a ghost. A cute way to entertain children at bath time or to make chore time in the kitchen washing dishes more fun. Or just display it for a Halloween decoration.

On Halloween Spiders and Bats...

Let's Review the Happy Part of Happy Halloween
Plush Pumpkin and Squiggly Spider

Pumpkins & Spiders Go Together for Halloween!

A little plush pumpkin crocheted in the Amigurumi style and a friendly squiggly yarn spider make fun toys for kids or cute Halloween decorations.

These yarn toys make a cute Halloween treat for a child in your family, or look adorable as a Halloween party table decoration. They are handmade in crochet by a Georgia crochet crafter on Etsy.

Bats Might be Scary...

But Not When They are Colorful and Cute Crocheted Amigurumi Baby Bats

Fritz the Fruit Bat in Crochet

Baby Bats in Plush are Best...

...if you are seeking a non-scary Halloween.

A Baby Bat is absolutely adorable when created in the Amigurumi style of crochet. It is much cuter than those scary black bats in caves! :)

These bats are handmade and are available in the Etsy shop of Millie's Crochet House of Chesapeake, Virginia.

In Halloween Plush...

... A Halloween 'Spooky' Pup

Webkinz Spooky Plush Puppy

The word spooky at Halloween time always sounds scary, but not so with this plush puppy by Webkinz.  His coat is covered with fun Halloween designs.

Don't be afraid.... Spooky Puppy is friendly and fun. He's a Plush Pet by Webkinz.

Baby's First Pumpkin Play Set

Baby's First Pumpkin

For babies who are too young for the 'treat or treat' of Halloween, this First Pumpkin Play Set is perfect.

My First Pumpkin Playset is by Genius Baby Toys. It is interactive with Candy Corn that crinkles, a Ghost that squeaks, a Spider rattle and a Cat that meows.

Halloween Appetizers - Part I of Halloween Recipes on Review This!

Halloween Appetizers - Part I of Halloween Recipes on Review This!
Finding the best Halloween recipes and most appropriate food for our Halloween parties can often be a daunting task.

Therefore, we will be focusing on helping our readers by featuring the delicious food for Halloween that we have found across the web.  I do believe there is something here for everyone.

We will start with the party starters themselves, appetizers!

Jack-o’-Lantern Sandwich Bites

Jack O Lantern Sandwich Bites Recipe
Jack-o’-Lantern Sandwich Bites by Frank P. at Delish.com

These cute little pumpkin sandwich bites are perfect for the whole family including children!   They are not too scary in appearance, but would be delectably delicious.

Since they use our everyday favorite meat and cheese, they are sure to be a hit and something that the kids will also eat.

You can find the instructions for constructing these cute little pumpkin sandwiches on Delish.com by clicking here.

Halloween Deviled Eggs

Deviled Eggs are always one of my own personal favorite appetizers to eat, so I an constantly on the lookout for new and interesting ways to prepare them for parties.

For the Halloween party, I have found two ways to prepare Deviled Eggs to serve as appetizers.  You choose which one best suits your personal tastes in ingredients.  Either would be fantastic to look at sitting on the Halloween buffet table.

Devils on Horseback

Devils on Horseback by DecoratingEventsTo go with your "deviled" eggs, you may wish to also include Devils on Horseback.

This is a completely new idea for my Halloween party buffet table.  I had never heard of Devils on Horseback until I read this article and recipe by DecoratingEvents.

The Devils on Horseback look perfect for a Halloween appetizer, but the recipe actually sounds delicious.

In the article, she also includes a recipe for Devils on Horseback featuring shrimp instead of bacon & cheese.

The perfect combination for the Halloween party!

Wonton Bats

http://www.firstforwomen.com/posts/wonton-bats-65988#.VD_Y2cnSn7F
Wonton Bats by First for Women
In my search for great Halloween appetizers for our Halloween party, I also discovered these cute little guys!

Bats and Halloween just seem to go together. Adding edible bats to my Halloween buffet seems like a wonderful idea.

Now, I just wonder, will my guests be able to eat these cute little bats!  I might have to close my eyes to keep from looking into those little bat eyes myself.

When I consider my guests, I seriously do have images in my mind of them trying to "fly" the bats across the room at each other.   We do enjoy playing with our food, especially on Halloween.

Halloween Skull Veggie Platter

Now this Halloween vegetable platter is ingenious and was clearly created with the vegetarian in mind.

It is beautifully creative and artistically designed.  This will most likely be the food centerpiece on my Halloween buffet table at this years Halloween party.

Halloween Wicked Brews & Beverages - Part III of Halloween Recipes on Review This!

Wicked Brews & Beverages - Part III of Halloween Recipes on Review This
Sometimes we focus so much on the food, that we forget that the Halloween wicked brews and beverages can be just as much fun on a Halloween buffet as the food itself.  From eerie colors to  floating body parts in our punch, one that that is for sure, they all exude the Halloween spirit.

I am going to start with the "mildest" Halloween punch, but do beware!  The further you go in this article, the more wicked the brew.

Halloween Orange Sherbet Punch

Sherbet punch is one of the easiest and delicious party drinks.  I am going to share my own personal recipe for Halloween Orange Sherbet Punch right here, right now.  No need to go any further to discover an awesome Halloween punch suitable for any party or any age.  I opt for Orange Sherbet, but green or raspberry would be awesome for Halloween too.

Flickr.com cc
Easy Sherbet Punch Recipe Ingredients by Sylvestermouse

  • 1/2 gallon Orange Sherbet
  • 2 Liters Ginger Ale

Instructions

  1. Let Sherbet soften for approximately 45 minutes.
  2. Cut Sherbet into small squares or scoop into round balls.
  3. Place Sherbet squares / balls in large punch bowl
  4. Slowly add Ginger Ale

Brew-Ha-Ha Punch Recipe

Photo: Ralph Anderson; Styling: Buffy Hargett
The Brew-Ha-Ha Punch recipe is a really neat Halloween punch that is family and kid friendly.

By mixing a potion of green drink mix (like Kool Aid), pineapple juice & Ginger Ale, you will delight everyone with a cool green punch for Halloween.

Complete Brew-Ha-Ha Recipe can be found here:  MyRecipes.com

Black Halloween Punch

Featured with the recipe at Allrecipes.com
A black Halloween Punch would be totally awesome for any Halloween Party!

With a mixture of grape and orange drink mixes with ginger ale, you too can easily create this ominous looking Halloween punch.

Black Halloween Punch Recipe Here:  Allrecipes.com

Create that smoky effect under the punch by pouring water over dry ice in a larger, separate bowl.

Rules for Using Dry Ice ~ Know the Rules Before You Play with Dry Ice

  1. Wear Gloves!  Never touch dry ice to skin
  2. Never Drink Dry Ice
  3. Never Put Dry Ice directly in a drink or your mouth
  4. Do Not Put Dry Ice in Freezer ~ Use within 24 hrs. of purchase
  5. Keep Dry Ice Away from Children

Halloween Ice Cubes in Any Punch

You can add a touch of Halloween to any punch with shaped ice cube molds.  You can freeze water for traditional ice cubes or you can freeze the actual punch in these molds to avoid watering down your punch.  Either adds the thrill of Halloween to your punch while keeping it cool.

Eyeball Punch

I am featuring this particular Eyeball Punch recipe because of the authors ingenious way of creating the eyeballs.

She shares her really neat trick with everyone on her blog.  You will need to scroll to the bottom of her post to see her pictorial directions, but it is well worth the visit.

See the Eyeball Punch Recipe by Heidi:  HappinessIsHomemade.net

Shrunken Heads in Cider

MarthaStewart.com
This Shrunken Heads Cider is fabulously awesome.  My hat's off to Allison DiNatale for creating and sharing this frightfully cool recipe on the Martha Stewart website.

Would you believe those shrunken heads are simply Granny Smith apples?!!!

Very, very cool indeed!

This recipe can be made for children, but she has also included the portion instructions if you care to spice it up with rum.

See the Complete Shrunken Head Cider Recipe by clicking the following link:   MarthaStewart.com

For Adults Only ~ The Following Recipes Contain Alcohol

Purplicious Potion

In complete honestly, I cannot attest to the taste of this Purplicious Potion.  I simply thought it looked appropriate for Halloween, plus I love the color purple.

I will need some of my friends to test this "potion" and report back to determine if it tastes as awesome as it looks.

But, I must ask you, isn't that photo spectacular!

Try this Purplicious Potion Recipe.  It can be found at:  FamilySpice.com

Halloween Cocktails

Or, you just might want to give this one a shot!

Cheers to my "spirited" friends and collegues
