Rubbermaid Brilliance Food Storage Container Reviewed

Airtight, Leakproof, Microwavable & Freezer Safe Storage

Rubbermaid Brilliance Food Storage Container Reviewed
I recently purchased 3 Rubbermaid Food Storage Containers. I needed an airtight container for rolls & crescents so they would last longer. I selected the 9.6 cup size which was perfect for my needs. As it turns out, there are many more uses for these containers than just bread storage.

During the recent holidays, I discovered these containers will hold liquid or dry food.  Since they are leak-proof due to their tight seal, they will even store leftover homemade soup.  Plus, they are microwavable when it is time to reheat the leftovers.  Therefore, there is no need to transfer leftovers from their storage container to heat.  Less clean-up is always appreciated.

I love my faithful Tupperware, but sadly, if I can't see it, I am likely to forget it.  So much fruit is discarded simply because it is forgotten once it has been stored away.  Because these containers are transparent, it is easy to see at a glance what is stored in which container.

Rubbermaid Food Storage Containers

Rubbermaid Brilliance Food Storage Container, Large, 9.6 Cup, Clear, 3 PackCheck PriceNot only are they clear, airtight, leak-proof, microwavable and freezer safe, their flat design makes them stackable in the the refrigerator, freezer, or pantry.

Since we don't have to worry about the spilling, transporting food from one location to another is easy.  Of course, if you are dropping off food, you might not get these nifty containers back. The recipient will be tempted to forget where they came from originally.

Now that I have had experience with the larger containers, I will definitely be buying the smaller single serve size as well.  That will make lunchtime so much easier!

To use in the microwave, simply lift the locks for venting.

The only possible negative that I have found with these containers is that they seal so tightly.  It takes more effort to remove the lids than it does with a snap lid.  But, after a few uses, I knew what to expect.  Now I grip the container with one hand and remove the lid with my other hand.  In my opinion, that is a simple inconvenience to enjoy the airtight storage.

Oh, and did I mention, the price is right!  No wonder they named these containers "Brilliance".

  1. These sound great, I love clear containers that can easily go from the freezer to the microwave (for those occasions when I forget to take something out before heading to work!).

  2. I could surely use some of these food storage containers. Like you, if I can't see it, it doesn't exist. I hate to have food go to waste. Clear containers help remind us to take advantage of the food available to us for meals or snacks. Thanks for sharing your preferences and experience with this particular Brilliance system by Rubbermaid. Pretty hard to go wrong with any of their products.

  3. I have been a fan of the Rubbermaid Brand for many years ~ always dependable and reliable. Therefore, I am pleased to learn about these airtight food storage containers by Rubbermaid. We all have had the misfortune of finding old, moldy leftover food forgotten because one could not see (or remember) what was in the storage container. The old "out-of-sight,out-of-mind" phenomena! So these clear 'see-through' containers would be perfect. The fact that they are stackable is a definite space-saving plus. Timely review, Sylvestermouse.

  4. My husband and I also share the “out of sight, out of mind” problem when it comes to food storage. Discovering what we refer to as a “science experiment” after opening an opaque container from the fridge can disappointing and frustrating. I actually noticed these for the first time last night when they came up in my Amazon search for stackable glass food storage containers. After reading your review, I’ll be taking a second look at these! One question - with my silicone food storage bags, the first one or two times I used each of them, it took a lot of effort to pull the separate slider bars across the channel at the to to seal the bag closed, but by the third time it became much easier. Does closing and opening the lids on the Brilliance containers get any easier after a few times? Thanks!

    1. Easier, yes, but they are still snug enough to require 2 hands. The first time was like a tug-of-war. However, they are indeed easier to open now and I don't feel like I would spill liquid contents. Knowing what to expect always helps.

    2. Knowing what to expect definitely helps! My hand/grip strength isn't what it used to be, but given the benefits, I think I'd like to try a small set from this Brilliance line and see whether I'm able to manage opening and closing them. Thanks so much!

  5. I love Tupperware also. But like you, if I can't see it I forget it. I've been buying glass storage dishes but they are heavy when I carry them to work for lunch. I bet these are much lighter. Thank you for this review. These would probably be perfect for my lunch bag!

    1. You're right Dawn! They are little more than the weight of whatever food is stored in them. Very light-weight. I think the would be perfect for a lunch bag.

  6. Oh I think I would like these containers too. See through is a must for me because I really don't like guessing what's in a container that I put in the fridge for later. I like the stackability too. Thanks for a great product, that I'm sure I will use.

  7. These look terrific, and Rubbermaid is a terrific choice. It seems we never have enough storage containers; I swear they get up in the middle of the night and walk out on their own! I'll keep this review in mind on my next stocking up day.
