What Is Freegal?
Freegal is a music library offered through your local library. Music can be downloaded for free with a weekly limit of downloads. The music library includes Sony's music catalog and a reported catalog of over 15 million songs. How User Friendly Is Freegal?
As you can see below, I am limited to five downloads per week. The number of downloads per user per week is determined by the package purchased by your library.
It is easy to access Freegal. Simply navigate to the Freegal website and log in with your library membership information. Or enter Freegal through your library digital menu with your library membership number.
The Freegal menu for desktop is self explanatory. The songs can be previewed prior to downloading. I did not find the search feature overly helpful for browsing. However, if you are searching for a particular artist versus general browsing the search engine is adequate.
The library can also be accessed with Apps from Google Play and Apple App Store.
As with any new service or app there is a small learning curve to use the service. Freegal is easy to use and the music can be downloaded easily with the click of the mouse. Check with your local library to see if Freegal is included with your library membership.
Cutting the cable has been an interesting experience. Freegal is the third service reviewed which offers free content. The search for additional user friendly and robust sources of free content continues!

Wow Tracey thank you for this review. I personally don't stream too much music but my other half does all the time. I will share this with him and I'm sure he will be happy to know there is another music venue that he can check out. I know that we are enjoying Hoopla since you review and I'm sure this will be another one we will enjoy as well. Again, thank you!
ReplyDeleteLoving Hoopla too! :)
DeleteAnother great resource, Tracey! Thank you! I do enjoy downloading my favorite music. It is nice to be able to get it for free. It isn't always easy to find a good radio station and I refuse to pay for satellite radio. I certainly don't mind buying albums and supporting the artists, but I do need a way to hear the music first to determine if I even like a new set of songs.
ReplyDeleteI agree, test driving music before any purchase is a requirement.
DeleteThese tips on accessing free music, movies and more for everyone who wants to go cable-free and still enjoy many services are really helpful.
ReplyDeleteIt is very nice there are free alternatives to cable!
DeleteI look forward to checking out these resources, since I, too, am cable-free. Great suggestions!
ReplyDeleteIt is a lifestyle change no doubt to cut the cable cord... but a good one!
DeleteI've never heard of Freegal, what a terrific idea. I'll have to check this out. Thank you! Leave it to ReviewThisReviews to introduce us to useful new tools.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing yet another wonderful resource for accessing high quality media content for free! I never would have known about either Kanopy or Freegal if it weren't for your reviews.
