Five Guys Restaurant Review

Five Guys Restaurant near Savannah, Georgia
(c) Wednesday Elf
The holidays brought lots of cooking and baking for holiday guests and celebrations. Now the cook(s) need a day off. Your nearest Five Guys restaurant will provide you with a quick, inexpensive and delicious meal of those good old American standards of hamburgers, hot dogs and French fries.

Five Guys Restaurant is known as a fast casual restaurant as opposed to your typical fast food place. Fast-Casual restaurants typically offer higher quality food at a slightly higher price level. The difference is made-to-order, fresh cooked food.

Five Guys Beginning

The  restaurant founders, Janie and Jerry Murrell, began Five Guys in Virginia in 1986.  The name "Five Guys" comes from the couples' five sons, Jim, Matt, Chad, Ben and Tyler, who are all involved in the restaurant chain that today includes over 1,000 restaurants throughout the United States and Canada with more than 1500 more planned.  Since 2013, several have opened overseas in England, the Middle East and Europe.

Menu

The Five Guys menu is simple and centers on hamburgers (offered with American cheese or bacon), kosher style hot dogs, grilled cheese and vegetable sandwiches.

Five Guys uses buns that are sweeter and "eggier" than normal buns.

Fresh-cut French fries are the sole side item, available "salted only" (in Five Guys style) or seasoned "Cajun style".

The burgers are available as 'single' or 'double' with 15 fresh toppings to choose from. The toppings are available at no extra charge and you can have as many or as few as you want. My favorite is a single burger with mayo and tomato slices.

Five Guys also features Milkshakes in a variety of flavors!

Peanuts Galore

Complimentary roasted in-shell peanuts are offered for on-site consumption while you wait for your order.  Signage is provided alerting customers who may have a peanut allergy.

A Five Guys restaurant typically consists of red-and-white checkered decorations, open kitchens, a single counter for purchasing and picking up food, and tables and chairs for customers.

Five Guys has won numerous awards over the years and signs are posted showing some of them.

Bonus Idea for Gifts

Five Guys Gift Cards & Christmas Cards for Teen Grandsons

Teenage boys like nothing better than food, so for Christmas for my three teen grandsons I sent Five Guys Gift Certificates. They love Five Guys Burgers as much as I do. These gift cards work equally as well as birthday gifts.

Pick up a gift card at your local Five Guys while you are waiting for your order.  Or grab a gift card online at the Five Guys website and send either a physical card or an eGift Card to your favorite Five Guys fan!

A Five Guys app to order your burger & fries
Five Guys (Free) App for Androids

Get the Five Guys App for Android phones and place your order in a minute!  The app is free to download and is a very handy way to have your order ready when you arrive at your favorite Five Guys restaurant!

Happy Eating!

  1. You have just reviewed my husbands favorite fast food restaurant! We both love their burgers and fries, but I think my husband could eat there every night. He also relies on them when he travels as a trusted, consistently delicious place to eat. The day they started building a Five Guys Restaurant in our area was a joyous day in our home for sure. We drove by the location weekly just to see if they had opened yet. It was a long wait, but very worthwhile. I sure wish I had thought to recommend their gift cards to family members who asked what he wanted. I didn't even realize they offered gift cards. Just never thought about it until now. I reckon I will be visiting their website (so it will remain a secret) when it is time for his birthday.

Oh, an excellent review of a fabulous restaurant! Their burgers are the best!!!

    1. Mouse, I didn't discover Five Guys until 2010 when I moved to coastal Georgia and my brother took me there for lunch. Since then I have eaten at Five Guys frequently here and in Kansas City and several other places while visiting family or traveling across country by car. And the gift cards for my teenage grandsons have become an 'expected' treat from 'grandma' for Christmas and birthdays. My two oldest grandsons (at 18 and 20 years of age) find the gift cards very handy for a quick meal between collage classes and part-time jobs or just anytime they are hungry (which is frequently as every mother of teen boys knows). :)

    1. I know, Mary Beth. I'm just now having my morning coffee.... yet, I could easily eat a Five Guys burger! But... they don't open until 11 A.M. Guess I'll have to wait a bit. :)

  3. A great review with a little history lesson included. We have a Five Guys very close to us, it opened about a year ago. I'm sorry to say that I haven't been there yet so I've never tried their burgers. Since you, and I see from Cynthia's comment have given this a thumbs up I'll be making a visit to Five Guys very soon.

  4. Last week following a doctor's appointment, as we walked towards the exit I looked out the fifth-floor window in front of us and, lo and behold, I couldn't miss the big, red "Five Guys" sign across the street, in the distance, at about eye level. Bet they get a lot of traffic from that doctor! Next time instead of heading home, I'm thinking we need to stop for lunch!

    1. I have a hard time driving past my nearest Five Guys (which seems to be located perfectly just across from a shopping mall with a large grocery store and a big Walmart - both frequented often) especially at lunch or dinnertime, without my car almost automatically turning in... LOL. If you find yourself nearby at lunchtime, Susan, you definitely must give Five Guys a try. :)

  5. This sounds like my kind of place. Alas, I've never seen a Five Guys here in California.

    1. There are several Five Guys in California, Barbara, but not near you at the moment. Although -- one is coming soon to Arroyo Grande. :)

  6. Yes, you have made me hungry too, but I don't think I have ever seen a 5 Guys here! What a shame that is. If we had one nearby, I certainly would make my way there for lunch or dinner.

    1. Olivia, there are currently two Five Guys in Toronto and one in Edmonton. I'm not sure where in Canada you are located, but you could do a search online for Five Guys. The chain is busy 'expanding' all the time, so more should be available soon. :)

  7. Yum! I've never seen one of these in Canada. I'll be keeping my eyes open for one now. That burger looks amazing, could I ever go for one of those right now!

    1. Check online, Barbara. There are over 50 Five Guys around Canada and about half of them are in the Toronto area. Their burgers really are THAT good!

  8. Since moving to Iowa two years ago, I have missed having Five Guys Burgers since there was not a restaurant near my new location. Just heard that A Five Guys is due to open in 2021 in my area. SO excited! Can't wait!
