An Inspirational Movie With An Unexpected Magical Theme - Five Stars!

The Storyline

*The Healer*, a film released in 2017, is a beautiful and unexpected journey that intertwines the mystical with the mundane in the most heartwarming way. 

The story follows Alec Bailey, a man struggling with his life's direction, who discovers he may have the power to heal others. What starts as a reluctant acceptance of this gift soon evolves into a deeper exploration of faith, redemption, and the power of kindness. 

Though the storyline was unsurprising, it kept me engaged and added layers to the narrative I didn't expect. 

The film's pacing and the gradual unfolding of its plot left me feeling good.

The Talented Cast

The cast of *The Healer* is genuinely talented, bringing authenticity and warmth to their roles. 

Oliver Jackson-Cohen delivers a compelling performance as Alec, effortlessly capturing the character's initial cynicism and eventual transformation. 

An excellent ensemble, including the legendary Jonathan Pryce, supports him, who adds depth and wisdom to the story as Alec's uncle. 

The chemistry among the cast members is palpable, making the relationships on screen feel real and relatable. Their performances anchor the film, allowing the story's inspirational message to shine without feeling forced or overly sentimental.

Why I Love This Movie

What I love most about The Healer is its clean, character-driven story, which is both creative and inspirational. 

In a world where movies often rely on shock value or complex plots, this film stands out for its simplicity and heart. 

It's a movie that inspires without being preachy, and it's refreshing to watch something that is both uplifting and wholesome. 

The beauty of the setting, the goodness of the characters, and the overall positive message make *The Healer* a film I'll return to whenever I need a reminder of the power of kindness, possibility, and redemption.

Without hesitation, and if you're looking for something based on the possibility of the human spirit, don't hesitate to dive into this movie with popcorn in hand.

Lord Blackwell’s Promise: A Regency Romance - Larkhall Letters Book 5

Ashtyn Newbold has written & published a delightfully unique and entertaining series with the Larkhall Letters.

I had previously read and reviewed the first 4 books in the series, but had to wait for the 5th book to be released.  As soon as Lord Blackwell's Promise was published, I downloaded it to my Kindle and immediately started reading. 

One of the things I like best about Ashtyn Newbold's writing, is that she develops her characters so well that readers feel like they know them personally. In Lord Blackwells' Promise, both Lord Blackwell and Margaret Lovell have strong personalities, devotion to their families and conflicting emotions, much like a lot of real people.

As expected, it was another excellent book that I can highly recommend to Regency Romance novel lovers of any age. Not only is it a unique story, it is interlaced with witty conversations and funny interactions. 

It is another book by Newbold that I hated to see end, even though I was pleased with the ending!

Margaret Lovell is deeply devoted to her family and greatly concerned for her father's health.  When her brother is hurt and needs surgery, she has to seriously consider the proposal from someone she despises: Lord Blackwell.  Her family can't afford doctors.  They barely have enough food.  As she ponders her options, she realizes with the Earl dying, she wouldn't really need to be a wife.  She would simply be married to him.  As his widow, her family would be wealthy again. 

After the ceremony at the dying man's bedside, Margaret's family is moved into Lord Blackwell's castle.  All seems to be going as planned, that is, until Lord Blackwell recovers!

With Love, Louisa: A Regency Romance - Larkhall Letters Book 3

The Larkhall Letters book series has kept me reading, and laughing, for days!  They are all worthy of a review. 

I've quickly moved from one book to the next.  Most recently, I finished reading With Love, Louisa.  Sadly, I now have to wait for the next book in the series to be published to continue following the lives and escapades of the ladies and gentlemen of Larkhall. However, you can start the series today, then wait along with me in eager anticipation of the 4th book.

In book 3, as you would expect from the title, Louisa Rosemeyer is the main character. Previously, she has been a likable support character in the series.  We first meet Louisa in book 1, The Ace of Hearts.  She and her older sister Alice (the main character of book 1) visit Larkhall for the summer in hopes that one or the other will find a lovable husband so they can avoid being forced into arranged marriages by their stepfather. 

In book 2, The Captain's Confidant, Louisa had become Bridget Northcott's companion, which allows her to safely remain at Larkhall and travel with the Northcott family. 

Book 3 opens with Louisa feeling uncomfortable with continuing to live at Larkhall with Bridget's brother, Matthew, her self-appointed older brother, and their elderly aunt. She believes it will cause a great scandal if she remains in the home with a single man.

Unexpectedly, the shy Louisa manages to find herself in an extraordinary situation that had me rolling with laughter as she winds up in the very worst place while seeking a hiding place in an unfamiliar home.

Louisa hasn't met Mrs. Irwin, but she knows she owns an estate, Benham Abbey, in Folkswich. To her happy surprise, Louisa receives a response to come as soon as possible.

However, Mrs. Irwin did not write the letter.  Her tenant, Jack Warwick, replied to Louisa and signed Mrs. Irwin's name. He believes it would serve his disagreeable landlord right to be required to receive unwanted company and believes it would be a grand joke on Mrs. Irwin.

Upon arrival at Benham Abbey, Louisa is mistaken by the housekeeper as a hired maid and escorts her to the servant's quarters. Because it is already bedtime, Louisa believes this is a mistake that can be rectified in the morning and she is exhausted from travel.  However, she can't sleep due to hunger.  She decides to venture to the kitchen for a snack. When she hears a man's voice, she is frightened.  After all, why would a man be in her elderly aunt's home?  Fearing that it could be an intruder, she decides to hide, but she has to keep moving further away as it seems the man is following her.  

Both the man and Louisa are shocked by what happens next!

 

Conclusion

It is rare for me to find a book series that every individual book deserves a separate review.  However each book in the Larkhall Letters by Ashtyn Newbold has an excellent plot with wonderful characters and could easily be enjoyed without having read other books in the series.

With Love, Louisa is a delightfully entertaining story with several difficult situations that must be dealt with properly and in accordance with societal rules.  

In the end, I feel I have made a few new friends and I wish them every happiness.
