Rubbermaid Folding 1-Step Steel Step Stool Reviewed

1 step steel step stool in the kitchen
One Step Step Stool
I recently purchased a Rubbermaid 1-step step stool because I need that extra 10 inches of height to easily reach the upper cabinets and shelves in my kitchen.  I especially need the extra height to access the cabinet over my oven where I store my baking pans.  It seems I need that extra step up somewhere in my kitchen on a daily basis.

I have several step stools that range from two steps to four steps stored in various places throughout my home.  The more steps they have, the heavier they are to move.  While I love my 4-step foldable step stool, it really is too heavy for me to constantly be moving around or using on a daily basis.  While the 4-step ladder is still necessary to reach the top shelves of the cabinets, I rarely need the items I have stored on those shelves. Frankly, I am surprised I haven't previously bought the much lighter weight 1-step step stool.

Because the Rubbermaid 1-step step stool is so thin (2") when folded for storage, I can slip it between the end of my counter and my refrigerator.  That keeps it close at hand when needed.

I recommend this specific step stool for several reasons.  It has a lock to keep the from folding up when I am standing on the stool.  Plus, I really like the rubber grip on the top and the rubber feet that keep it from sliding.

  • Lightweight - 7.5 lbs
  • Slim Profile - Folds up thin - 2 inches
  • Holds up to 225 lbs
  • Steel Frame
  • Tread Insert on Step to prevent slipping
  • Soft Comfort Grip
  • Step Locks in Place - Easy Press Button Release
  • Non-slip, Non-marring Feet

  1. This seems lovely je a very handy addition to any kitchen with out-of-reach storage (which is most of them!). I really like the locking feature, the rubber grip and feet, and the slim profile when closed. Thanks so much for the recommendation!

  2. This looks so handy. I too need one to access my baking pans stored in the cabinet above my microwave.

  3. Oh my goodness, this is a must have in my house too. When the tall hubby is not available, I need that extra help too. I did not know there was just a one step stepladder. Thanks for this recommendation.

  4. Oh that's a handy item - We have a step ladder that we've been using for repainting that we've been doing, but this would be nice to have on hand to keep in the kitchen for those higher cupboards (versus standing on a chair! which is what I do)

  5. I've always been 'short' (vertically challenged... LOL) and age has reduced me more... so I could not get along without a step up for those higher shelves, etc. This is definitely a needed item in everyone's home.
