The Secret to Uniform Sized Homemade Burgers - Use This Must-Have Gadget!

The Secret to Uniform Sized Homemade Burgers - Use This Must-Have Gadget!

The Handy Little Burger Gadget My Husband Swears By

Let me tell you about a simple kitchen gadget that's made a big difference in our house—especially for my husband, who's the one doing all the burger grilling around here.

Shaping Burgers Has Never Been Easier!

We make a large number of burgers at once, especially during the summer, and we typically freeze a batch for later use. However, shaping them by hand was becoming frustrating—none of the patties came out the same, and they always had a little lump in the middle that made them cook unevenly. Some were too thick, some too thin, and it just became a pain.

One day, after another round of lopsided burgers, my husband went digging through Amazon and found a burger press that looked like it might do the trick. He asked me to place the order—and I'm so glad he did.

A Simple, Affordable Gadget That Does the Work For You

This little gadget has completely changed the way we make burgers. The patties come out perfectly shaped—uniform in thickness and size—and they actually look like something you'd get at a restaurant. Best of all, they cook evenly, which means no more guessing which one needs more time on the grill. And when you place them between the buns? Chef's kiss. They fit just right.

Easy To Use, Clean and Store - It's Not Big!

It's easy to use, easy to clean, and doesn't take up much space. It's a compact little unit. I actually keep ours on top of the bread box—not because it's big, but because our kitchen drawers aren't very deep and I don't want it to get caught when we open and close them. But if you have deeper drawers, it'll fit nicely inside. Either way, it's small and simple to store.

Here Are Some of the Particulars For This Must-Have Burger Press Gadget:

  • Made from food-grade aluminum that's BPA-free and SGS certified, so it's safe and built to last.

  • Features a premium non-stick coating and comes with 50 pieces of wax paper to keep patties from sticking—plus, it's dishwasher safe.

  • The built-in grooves give the burgers that classic, professional look.

  • Comes with a detachable non-slip handle, great for taking along to barbecues, picnics, or camping trips.

  • Compact size: 4.6 inches wide, 0.7 inches deep, and 3.7 inches tall.

Final Thought

If you're making burgers at home—especially in batches like we do—you really should try this gadget.

It's affordable, easy to use, and just makes the whole process smoother. My husband's been using it ever since it arrived, and we're both impressed. Sometimes, it's really the little things that make the biggest difference.

Cooking Hamburgers on an Indoor Grill

hamburger on grill
During the winter months, it is much too cold to cook outside.  In early spring, we get a lot of rain, which also keeps us from cooking outdoors.  In this review, I will share how our family still enjoys delicious home-cooked grilled hamburgers which we cook indoors.  It is surprisingly easy!

Several years ago, we purchased our first Cuisinart Griddler.  Today, it is used as often as our stove-top or oven.  For me, I prefer meat cooked on the Griddler because it eliminates the charcoal flavor.  For those of you who really love the charcoal taste, you may want to sprinkle charcoal seasoning on your meat before you cook it.

Because meat splatters when cooking, I put towels down under our Griddler.  That simply makes cleanup easier.  I purchased two towels specifically for that purpose and I only use them under the Griddler.

How to Make & Cook the Hamburgers for Indoor Grilling

Cuisinart Panini Press, Stainless Steel Griddler, Sandwich Maker & More, 5-IN-1, GR-4NP1Check Price My husband uses 2 lbs of ground beef which he divides into 6 patties and lays out on a sheet of parchment paper, wax paper or aluminum foil.  We season one side of each patty with salt and pepper before cooking.

He cooks 2 hamburgers at a time for 4 minutes or 1 hamburger for 3½ minutes. It is not necessary to turn them because the Griddler cooks on both sides at once.

We immediately place the cooked burger on a bun, add cheese if desired, and wrap in aluminum foil. Then, I place them in the oven (preheated to 175°) to keep the warm until all of the burgers are cooked.  Placing them in the oven also makes the cheese melt completely between the burger and the bun.

After all of the burgers are cooked, we take our first servings out of the oven, garnish them and eat our delicious indoor grilled hamburgers!

Cleaning the Griddler

I rinse each Griddler plate in hot water in my sink and put the plates in my dishwasher.  Since there are replacement Griddler plates sold separately, I don't worry about the washing them in the dishwasher.  I would prefer they be completely sanitized.

_____

The Griddler plates are double sided.  If you flip the plates over with the smooth sides up, and lay the Griddler open flat, you have a griddle which is awesome for making breakfast!  I frequently make pancakes and eggs on the flat griddle side.

National Hamburger Day Review

Date Celebrated:  May 28

Memorial Day and the 4th of July wouldn't be the same without a juicy hamburger, so it is appropriate that a national day has been set aside to celebrate this favorite picnic food. There is no official origin for 'hamburger day', but we are glad someone picked out a day to celebrate it.

Cook your burgers on an outdoor grill or fry them up inside.  Add your favorite fixings and enjoy!  If you add cheese, you suddenly have the popular cheeseburger, which has it's own day (National Cheeseburger Day ~ September 18).

If you don't want to cook your own, or are out-and-about on “Hamburger Day”, then stop by a local Five Guys Restaurant for a tasty burger fixed in a homemade style.

A Few Hamburger Facts

  • The hamburger was originally created in Hamburg, Germany (thus the name), but eating a hamburger on a bun is an American idea.
  • The hamburger was originally made from ground up meat scraps from cutting up other meats.  First it was made with beef, but today it can be found in other forms, such as ground chicken and ground turkey for those who prefer a non-meat burger.  Other meats, such as Buffalo Burgers, have also become popular.
  • Seymour, Wisconsin has a 'Burger Fest' each year and in 2001 they made the largest hamburger ever – weighing 8,200 pounds. Burger Fest is held each August and includes a parade, a hot air balloon rally, and, of course, lots of hamburgers to eat. Check out their website Home of the Hamburger for details.
  • Americans eat about 50 billion burgers every year, which equals approximately three burgers a week for every person in the U.S.

Handmade Hamburgers

The title of this paragraph indicates that here I will give you a lesson in making the perfect hamburger patty – so I will.

Take a ball of meat the size you wish your burger to be.  Some like them big served on large hamburger buns; some like them a bit smaller.  The choice is yours.

Press the meat into a patty, pressing down in the middle and patting in from the sides as you turn the burger around in your hand.  Continue until the patty is even and uniform.  It needs to be a solid disk of meat that is compacted tightly

A tip I read online at EATS – How to Make Hamburger Patties said to prevent the cracks around the edges as the burger cooks (caused by shrinking due to the cooking process), slightly depress the center of the patty when you are finished shaping it to make it thinner in the middle than it is around the edges.  The depression tends to push a little extra meat towards the edges, making an even patty once it is cooked.

More Handmade Hamburgers

Now, since I am a craftsman of handmade items, I shall continue a bit with my 'Handmade Hamburger' theme and show you a few clever handmade items representing this favorite food.
