My 20+ year old beloved Keurig Single Serve Coffee Maker had started leaking. Every morning, my first task was to clean the water up underneath my Keurig before I could have my first cup of coffee. The leak was slow enough that it didn't require immediate replacement and I did not want to spend the money to replace it until it was absolutely necessary. But, I knew replacing it was inevitable and probably not too far off regardless of my procrastination.
While I have loved my single serve Keurig coffee maker, I have missed being able to make a full carafe of coffee to serve with dessert when we have guests. At first, I wasn't sure that I would like the auto shut-off after 5 minutes. Of course, auto shut-off is extremely important to us, but I am accustom to it shutting off after an hour. Turns out, I love the shut-off after 5 minutes! Because it heats up fast, there is no reason to leave it on for an hour. Plus, when we are leaving the house immediately, the coffee maker shuts-off before we have even left the driveway. I no longer have to worry that the coffee pot was left on.
Because the thermal carafe holds heat, a warming element is not necessary
with this coffee maker. Therefore, your coffee doesn't start to burn on
the bottom which ruins the flavor of coffee, plus makes clean-up harder.

The Keurig coffeemakers certainly are handy (I've used one several times at my son's house and also my niece's house), but I have been hesitant in the past about getting/using the Keurig style of coffee pot for myself because I prefer a 'pot' of coffee waiting for me first thing in the morning. But with this 'duo' style, I could have both a 'pot' of coffee and the convenience of a quick instant cup of coffee. In fact, I rather believe that this type of coffeemaker is the 'wave' of the future because I was looking in the coffee aisle at the grocery store just yesterday and noticed that the 'coffee pod' section was now far larger than the cans & bags of regular brew ground and bean coffee. So, your excellent review here of the Keurig K-Duo coffee maker is timely.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely on my wish list. Our single serve Keurig is still working but when it stops I would love one of these. We have friends over for donuts and coffee once a month and I make a single cup for 11 people. About half prefer plain black coffee so the pot would be wonderful and for the rest I can make the flavored coffee and/or cappuccino in single cups/

ReplyDeleteIt can be hard to justify replacing an appliance that still functions even when it’s no longer meeting our needs well. Putting this on your Christmas wish list was the perfect solution.
Oh I like this idea better than just being restricted to the single serve! I had no idea that this was a choice - this is ideal - I would absolutely choose this - makes a great gift as well.

ReplyDeleteI do like the sound of this Keurig coffee maker! It has a lot of really great useful features such as the carafe or single serve option and being able to accommodate travel mugs. I think the 5 minute auto shut off feature is very good and a safe thing to have. Also love the pause and pour carafe feature for when you want a coffee quickly! This is a wonderful gift idea thank you so much for your review and recommendation!
