When you work in the kitchen every day, as most of us do, it's important to have a good, easy-to-use, liquid measuring cup. While measuring cups are pretty easy to come by, just how easy is yours to use?
Recently, after one time too many measuring water by pouring, then leaning over to read the markings on the side of the cup, then pouring a little bit of the water out, checking the markings again, then adding just a bit more since I poured too much out the first time, I had had enough of that frustrating routine. What I really disliked was having to lean over, contorting my body sideways so I could see the red marks on the side of the cup, then doing it all over again until I got the amount just right. My back didn't like the routine and neither did I.
That day, after putting it off for much too long, I ordered an OXO Good Grips Angled Measuring Cup.
When my package arrived, I couldn't wait to give it a try. I rinsed out the rather odd-looking cup, grabbed the water pitcher, and poured, aiming at the 1-cup mark. Voila! I got the right amount of water on the first try! Why? Because all I had to do was stand up straight, pour slowly, and watch the target mark on the inner angled surface. When the water got to the target mark, I stopped. Perfect! I had just the amount that I needed. No bending!
Relief! I should have ordered an angled measuring cup a long time ago!
This 3-piece OXO Angled Measuring Cup set includes the 1, 2, and 4-cup measuring cups. |
Another feature that I really like about this cup is the indentation at the top, above the handle, for your thumb. It's comfortable to hold and easy to pour. Check out the picture below - that's my hand, my thumb, my OXO angled liquid measuring cup.
One caution, based on reading customer reviews, is to not use hot oil-based liquids in the plastic cup to avoid cracking or breaking. I wouldn't, for instance, melt a stick of butter in the cup in the microwave as I occasionally do with my old glass measuring cup.
An individual angled measuring cup or the three-piece OXO liquid measuring cup set would make a great gift for a bridal shower, for mom, or treat yourself. You'll love it and, believe me, you deserve it!

very clever invention! I guess I need a new measuring cup now!
ReplyDeleteAnd you didn't even realize it, right Heather? Me, too, and I'm so glad I stopped putting off ordering mine. A great less-than-10-dollars investment!
DeleteIt sounds like the perfect measuring cup! I guess I never really thought about how hard it is to read the measurements on the side. I just do it because it is what I have always done. How cool that someone did think about it though and made a more practical and easy to read measuring cup. Thanks for the review. It really would be the perfect gift, for me! lol
ReplyDeleteI'm glad someone figured out a better way too, Cynthia. Trying to read those marks, through bifocals, while leaning sideways, became the last straw for me. Put it on your wish list!
DeleteDefinitely a time-saver (and back-saver) measuring cup. What a clever idea.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree, Wednesday Elf! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI have gotten very particular about my measuring cups but I didn't realize until reading your review why I grab the same one each time...I can read that one better. The trouble with my favorite one is that it is HUGE (a combo batter bowl/measuring cup) that holds up to 8 cups of liquid. That isn't really practical for those 1 cup or less ingredients and it is heavy because it is glass. The OXO Good Grips measuring cup sounds like something I would love for those smaller jobs of measuring.
ReplyDeleteGood thinking, Bev. It's nice to have a variety of sizes available and, of course, it's best if you're comfortable with the weight, the feel, and the ease of use of each one. Since these are plastic, they're nice and lightweight. I hope you decide to give it a try!
DeleteThis sounds like a great idea. I will need to check it out!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary Beth. I hope you like what you find when you check it out!
DeleteThis is a terrific idea, they can be very hard to read, I'll have to try this one out
