The Christmas holidays are a time when many of us enjoy our festive traditions. One of the most cherished of these is decorating our homes for Noȅl.
Some families use the same holiday decorations year after year, while others enjoy changing things up and choosing a different theme each year. Similarly, some prefer traditional country cottage themes, while others like more sophisticated, elegant Christmas decor.
Today, I'll review a curated selection of Christmas stockings in elegant fabrics, such as velvet, satin, and brocade, with beautiful, sparkling, and lavish trims such as sequins, lace, faux jewels, and faux fur.
My picks focus on large stockings (18 to 22 inches in length) that will accommodate a lot of treats or long or unusually shaped stocking stuffers. The length is usually measured from the top corner (where the hanging loop is attached) to the end of the toe.
Also, please note that most of these styles feature embellishments on one side only.
If your stockings or other holiday decorations could use an update, or if someone you know will be celebrating the holidays in their own house or apartment for the first time, read on for some classy Christmas decor ideas.
Gold and White or Ivory
Gold and off-white or ivory is a popular color scheme for those who love elegant holiday decor.
There's something magical about a gold-and-white or gold-and-ivory room, especially at Christmas. Maybe because it's a bit impractical for every day that makes it so appealing for this special occasion.
But gold and white or ivory Christmas stockings and other decorations are also a wonderful choice for a room with colorful walls or upholstery. The light colors really stand out against the colorful backdrop.
Following are some wonderful options that would be chic individually and also would mix and match beautifully for a lovely display on a fireplace mantle. All of them are generously sized (20- or 21-inch length) to accommodate stocking stuffers of many sizes.

Red or Green and Gold

Elegant Stocking Holders
Beautiful stockings deserve equally special holders. Here are a couple of suggestions that would look lovely with any of the above styles.

ReplyDeleteAs a couple, we had handmade Christmas stockings given to us as wedding presents made in felt in the shape of a man's fancy boot and a ladies elegant slipper, each with our names. We used them every year, adding red stockings for each child as the years went by. Some traditions live on forever. :)

DeleteI always use the handmade stockings that my mother made for all of us 30 - 40 years ago, but I certainly appreciate the elegant stockings displayed in other homes, offices, and the many places of interest that we visit around the holidays. I also enjoy walking around Hobby Lobby just admiring the displays, which gets me in the mood to do the decorating work in our home. I am personally drawn to the grey and white stockings you have featured. If I ever decide to do more formal decor, I think I would love those!

However, most of those are pretty elegant. I didn’t grow up with Christmas stockings, but I love the look of them and the tradition of stocking stuffers. Like you, I’m really drawn to the gray and white stockings and think they would make a lovely addition to a holiday fireplace mantle..
DeleteMargaret, I love everyone of these - the gold and white Christmas Stockings are beautiful - I remember one year (a lifetime ago - I was in my 20's!) i decided to do a strictly gold and brass decorated tree - it was so pretty - I used to theme out trees all the time - one would be for show, one would be for the kids - I loved doing that stuff - now that I'm older I tend to keep it simple, although hubby goes nuts! Only one tree now. I was a bit of a Christmas decor maniac in my youth - love all those pretty things - I've collected decorations over a lifetime, even from my teenage years, and every decoration on our tree holds a memory - I can remember when we bought it, or who gave it to us or me - that was a thing between mom and I and my friends, buying each other meaningful decorations - I often think about when this life is over, what physical "things" (versus people of course!) would I miss and I believe it's safe to say, my holdiday decorations would be near the top of the list. Oh, and I love those clip over fireplace stocking hooks you featured, love those.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, our ornaments are the same way. Many of them were handcrafted or hand painted by my mother, my sister or me over decades. Others were gifts or mementos of special occasions. All are meaningful, and putting them on our tree is a cherished tradition. I didn’t grow up with Christmas stockings, but I think they’re a beautiful addition to any holiday mantle!
