My husband and I recently listened to the audiobook of Hepburn’s Necklace by bestselling author Jan Moran. It is a 20th-century historical romance novel that weaves together a captivating, multigenerational story of love lost and found. It effortlessly blends history, mystery, the glamour of old Hollywood, the hardships of rural Texas farming life, and the gorgeous, scenic Italian coast. We loved every minute of it, so much that I also purchased the Kindle version. Here is my book review.

Escape to the shores of beautiful Lake Como in Italy for this
multigenerational historical romance that combines the magic of the Italian coast with the glamour of Hollywood in its heyday |
When costume designer Ariana Ricci discovers that her controlling bridegroom has been unfaithful, she leaves him at the altar. Her rigid, ambitious, and workaholic mother, Mari, refused to take time off to attend the wedding. Fortunately, the desolate bride finds solace with her great-aunt, glamorous Hollywood legend Ruby Raines, who whisks Ariana away from the church and off to Italy for some much-needed healing time.
Ruby has strong emotional ties to Italy, where she traveled as a teenager to work as an extra in the 1952 film Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn. It’s also where she fell deeply and irrevocably in love with Niccolò, an Italian extra in the iconic movie, and was befriended by Hepburn who gifted her with the necklace that gives this novel its name. Ruby and Niccolò had pledged themselves to each other faithfully, but his sudden silence soon after Ariana’s forced return to Hollywood remains a mystery. Ruby can only assume that he must have died, the only reason she can accept that would have kept him from her. During the filming of Roman Holiday, she and Niccolò had spent a magical few days on beautiful Lago di Como (Lake Como). Now, roughly half a century later, Ruby decides to purchase Villa Fiori, a rundown but historic villa there. Lago di Como holds precious memories for the aging Ruby, and she engages Ariana’s design expertise to refurbish the villa and restore it to its former glory.
As Ariana is looking for fabrics for Villa Fiori’s makeover, she is introduced to Alesandro, the handsome, savvy, and charming owner of the silk factory that provides textiles for all the top designer fashion houses, such as Versace, Missoni, Armani, Prada, and Ferragamo. Ruby encourages her grand-niece to accept Alessandro’s invitation to go out socially. However, Ariana is a bit gun-shy after her recent, narrow escape from her untrustworthy fiancé. While redecorating the villa, as Ariana combs through some of her famous great-aunt’s keepsakes she comes across some old letters with Italian postmarks from the 1950s. However, the famous and normally effusive Ruby is surprisingly closed-mouthed when asked about their contents, and we slowly learn more of her long-held secrets as the book progresses.
The relationship between Ariana and Alessandro gradually blooms, and Ruby relives her romantic past vicariously through them, musing on the secret love of her youth and the betrayal of a trusted relative that dramatically transformed the trajectory of her life.
The more we learn about Hollywood legend Ruby Raines as the book unfolds, the more questions we have.
Jan Moran’s writing is elegant and immersive, characterized by detailed descriptions and a keen sense of pacing. The dual timelines are seamlessly integrated, allowing us to move fluidly between Ruby’s present-day experiences and the historical context of her teenage and subsequent years in Hollywood. The Italian coast is depicted with lush, evocative descriptions that transport readers to the sun-drenched landscapes and quaint villages. The setting serves as a perfect backdrop for the romantic and historical elements of the story.
Hepburn’s Necklace is a beautifully crafted novel that blends romance, history, and self-discovery into a compelling narrative. Jan Moran’s ability to evoke the magic of old Hollywood and the charm of the Italian coast makes this book a standout in contemporary romance.
This novel takes us on a long (356 pages) and winding journey that is well worth the trip. My husband and I loved it and, despite the satisfying conclusion, we were sorry to see it end. I highly recommend the audiobook, which provides nearly 13 hours of listening pleasure and is skillfully narrated by Erin Bennett. I also purchased the Kindle version as I look forward to rereading it.
The formats listed below are (in order) Kindle, audiobook, and paperback. Enjoy the ride!
Hepburn's Necklace: Jan Moran's Beautiful, Enthralling Romantic Saga by Margaret Schindel
A newborn was abandoned in a small town laundry. He was left in a basket and found on the verge of death. His story made the news and he was named Moses. Unlike the biblical babe left in the basket and placed in the river, this Moses was a crack baby. Crack babies, due to being exposed to drugs before their birth, are expected to have many physical and mental difficulties. In some ways, Moses followed a similar trajectory as many children born with drug exposure and with absent parents. He was passed from home to home, had difficulty in school, and was thought to have seizures and hallucinations. However, he is also very different than those similar children in a way that can either be considered a blessing or a curse - depending on how you look at it.
"People love babies, even sick babies. Even crack babies. But babies grow up to be kids. Nobody really wants messed up kids."
I was lost in Amy Harmon's The Law of Moses. From the prologue that warned of heart-breaking loss to the last few words I was hooked. I fell in love with Georgia and Moses. We join their lives as they are in their senior year of high school.
Moses eventually comes to live with Kathleen, his great-grandmother. He is turning 18 and will be aging out of the system. He is a very talented mural painter, painting his graffiti where he shouldn't and he sometimes knows people he shouldn't. Kathleen lives next door to Georgia's family and has made arrangements for Moses to work on their farm.
Georgia was the youngest child, born years after her own siblings. But she had grown up with many children as her parents were foster parents. As the story begins, her family is running an equine therapy program. While Georgia has seen Moses previously, during his visits with Kathleen when he was younger, this is the first time she's getting to know him. Or trying to get to know him. While most everyone else is suspicious or afraid of Moses, Georgia is drawn to him. But he's one of those "troubled" kids that most people avoid. Even the horses want to remain far from him. But Georgia can't stop herself.
"Whatever it was, when Moses came to Levan, he was like water-cold, deep, unpredictable, and, like the pond up the canyon, dangerous because you could never see what was beneath the surface. And just like I'd done all my life, I jumped in head first, even though I'd been forbidden. But this time, I drowned."
The story continues over the next several years as Georgia and Moses go through some very difficult times, with and without each other, moving into adulthood. They are faced with adult problems and adult decisions.
My review does not do this story justice. I almost didn't write a review because I cannot describe it adequately without spoilers. Amy Harmon's writing is beautifully descriptive. It is easy to imagine the horses, scenery, and breath-taking murals. The characters are unique. Georgia and Moses are independent, strong, very different from each other, and both are very stubborn. This is described as a young adult and/or a coming of age romance but it is far from being confined to those genres. It includes the mysterious disappearances of young ladies, beautiful murals being painted on buildings and overpasses of people who are missing or passed away, and a "different" young man who everyone blames for some of the bad things that happen. This story also has a paranormal aspect. I hadn't known that before I chose to add this book to my Kindle. If I had known, I probably would have passed the book by. I feel that most books with a paranormal bend seem contrived and difficult to believe. But Amy Harmon introduces and proves Moses' special abilities in a way that seems possible. Georgia and Moses are flawed characters who might not be easily likable but who won't be easily forgotten.
We can always rely on Hallmark for a wonderfully romantic Valentine's Day movie!
I recently stumbled across My Secret Valentine on a new streaming
network (Frndly TV) I am trying out. This Hallmark movie is available
through several services, including
Amazon.com, but I like being able to
stream a movie for free on a network where I already have a subscription.
My Secret Valentine is a movie you could watch anytime. The story just happens to take place during the month of February when the Grange Family Vineyard & Winery is hosting their annual, week-long, Valentine's Day Wine Festival.
This movie originally aired on Hallmark in 2018, but I just discovered it
this "Loveuary" on FrndlyTV.
Seth Anderson (Andrew Walker) is an employee for Stratosphere boxed wine company, which wants to buy the Grange Winery. Chloe Grange (Lacey Chabert) does not want to see her family's business sold, but she understands her father's need to retire. Chloe has her own life in Portland, Oregon and her job is about to take a whole new turn toward a much-desired partnership.
My Secret ValentineCheck PriceThe Grange family also owns a lovely cabin that has not been used in years. The manager of Grange Winery is overseeing the repairs to the cabin and has placed it with a rental agency. It is immediately snatched up and rented.
When Chloe stops by the cabin to check the condition, she impulsively decides to leave a message on the cabin chalkboard. She doesn't expect an answer, but a fun reply is exactly what she gets. He signs the note as "Handyman" and she signs her next response as "In Need of Repairs", referring to the cabin's needs for more repairs.
Chloe has to do a lot of sole-searching during her visit home, trying to decide what she really wants now that she is faced with the sale of her family business. She is adamantly opposed to selling to a "boxed wine" company and constantly finds herself at odds with the representative from Stratosphere. Her only moments of levity are as a result of her unknown correspondent staying in the cabin, exchanging notes with her on the cabin chalkboard.
In the meantime, Seth is working hard to prove that he really does care about the Grange winery and that Stratosphere is the right company to buy them out.
If you are already familiar with the actors in this movie, the dvd cover has most likely given away a good bit of the story, but it is still a fun watch!

The only thing better than a clean, romantic movie is a romantic movie that makes us laugh.
Erin Krakow shares her geeky side in the movie, "It Was Always You". When
she hits the dance floor, she is downright funny as she demonstrates how
this attractive, successful woman clearly doesn't know how to dance.
At least, that is true in the movie. She is awkward, yet adorable
because she can laugh at herself. Perhaps, all she really needs is the right
partner.
Krakow is probably best known for her long lasting role as the main character in the current Hallmark series, "When Calls the Heart". However, she has proven many times that she is not just a "one hit wonder" in movies. Several movies starring Erin Krakow have already been reviewed and recommended here on Review This Reviews!
Each time I see her in a new movie, I think "this one is my favorite". As
of today, "It Was Always You" is my favorite Erin Krakow movie. I look
forward to seeing how Hallmark tops this one. Frankly, I think that is a
difficult challenge.

When searching for a new movie to watch, I came across "Appetite for Love". It was released in 2016, but somehow I have missed seeing it.
As a huge Hallmark fan, I didn't feel I needed to look further. I felt confident this would be a good movie and one I would enjoy watching.
I had seen Andrew Walker (Clay Hart) in several Hallmark movies, but Taylor Cole (Mina Jones) was new to me even though she has starred in several Hallmark movies previously.
From the very beginning, I liked Taylor Cole. She was easily believable as a current day business executive from a small rural town in Tennessee. Andrew Walker seems almost born to play the part of Clay Hart, a country boy committed to seeing his home town prosper in spite of outside forces that he must take seriously.
With the typical feel-good Hallmark theme of romance & fun, and even with the challenges of big city interference, "Appetite for Love" leaves viewers happy and with an appetite for more.
Appetite for LoveCheck PriceMina loves her job, her career. She is definitely headed in the right direction with the company. She has a great boyfriend, who happens to be a co-worker and their life together is headed in the right direction. Her life seems perfect. It is exactly what she wanted when she left small town USA to carve out her career. Since her parents have moved, there is really no reason for her to return to Sycamore Springs, Tennessee. Well, that is true until her company sends her there to force their newly acquired franchised restaurant into compliance with the company rules, menus, and suppliers. Her promotion depends on her successfully implementing the required changes at Hart's Restaurant, which happens to be owned by her high school sweetheart's family.
Since his father's recent death, Clay Hart is the operator of the towns popular Hart's Restaurant. The chef knows what the customers want and he prepares the food accordingly. Hart's uses locally grown products and the food is cooked fresh daily. However, that is not in compliance with the company requirements since they are not serving food from the company menu supplied by the chosen vendors. What's more, Clay is not interested in making those changes. He knows what his town prefers. Unfortunately, his restaurant is no longer owned by his family.
As you can see, Mina and Clay are about to knock heads. The past has a way
of interfering when old hurts become part of the present. Things get even
more difficult when Mina's co-worker boyfriend shows up to "help" and report
back to corporate. After all, the people of Sycamore Springs are
important to Mina too, even though she tried to forget those friends and her
childhood there.

As autumn has turned to winter in our area, the trees and grounds have already been kissed by snow several times. When I saw the movie entitled "Snowkissed", I immediately thought it was a rather romantic way to describe a light snow.
When it is below freezing outside, I tend to stay inside with a cup of hot cocoa, a warm blanket, and a romantic Hallmark movie. When the title caught my attention, I decided to check it out.
Setting my first thoughts aside, I read the movie description and thought it might be a nice love story, but I watched it because the title evoked lovely mental imagery.
Because I prefer clean and wholesome movies, I most often scan Hallmark movies first for a new film to watch when I just want to relax, not have to think too deeply, and simply be entertained by beautiful settings and likable people.
When a movie makes me smile, or even laugh, I know I have discovered a cinematic gem. As it turned out, the love story was sweet, I laughed several times, the scenery was fabulous and was definitely snow kissed.
This movie clearly has it all and was a wonderful escape for an hour and a
half.
They arrive at the B&B in Canada to find a struggling business run by two single men who are desperate to get the endorsement of an international travel company that will send a lot of business their way. As the only two guests for the week, the guys ask Kelly & Jane to go through their 3 day tour and give them honest critiques and suggestions. However, constructive criticism is not always easy to take, even when it is given by request.
While the set-up of two single men and two single women may seem like the perfect situation, it isn't always a guarantee that they will end up as friends, much less anything more to each other. After all, they live in different countries, all have jobs and responsiblities, and at least one definitely does not like change.
If you enjoy a romantic movie with a touch of humor and a lot of gorgeous scenery, then you will love
Snowkissed.

I truly enjoyed reading the entire American Heiresses series by Jen Turano. Each book has been equally enchanting, humorous at times, and a delightful read.
Book 1 of the series, Flights of Fancy, is a wonderful beginning for
a great series. It introduces us to Miss Isadora Delafield, who finds
herself being pushed into an undesirable relationship with a duke from
Europe simply because her mother desires a "titled" son-in-law. Being
a member of New York's Four Hundred isn't enough for Hester Delafield. She
wants her daughter to be a duchess! Never mind the duke is twice her
daughter's age and is a widower multiple times.
When we think of wealthy heiresses, we assume their lives are easy, perhaps
even enviable. However, when you really sit back and think about how
difficult it would be to know if someone was interested in you or in your
money, it doesn't seem quite as enchanting. Place the heiress in
historical times when a husband controlled everything, including the
heiresses inheritance, then the whole idea becomes downright dismal.
Hester Delafield may be thrilled that the Duke of Montrose has taken a special interest in her daughter, but Isadora is not. Something about the duke makes her skin crawl and Izzie is rather disgusted by the lecherous fiend. Plus, he makes no secret of the fact that he is seeking a 4th wife who will hopefully succeed where the others have failed. In his words, he is "in desperate need of an heir and a spare". Not exactly a courting phrase that makes a young girl swoon, especially when delivered by a creepy old man.
Flights of Fancy
(American Heiresses Book #1)Check PriceWhen Izzie's butler reveals his own concern for her safety based on what he
has learned from the duke's previous staff, he helps her run away. He
even writes her a letter of recommendation so she can get a job in a
household and hide out in domestic service. After all, who would
search for a heiress among the staff of a household in another city.
All the fun and laughter for the reader begins when Izzie arrives at a farm in rural Pennsylvania, answering a newspaper ad for a housekeeper. There is no way anyone would look for her in a home with two elderly people, 3 children, several cows, goats, chickens and ranch hands. It is the perfect hideaway! However, she is totally clueless on how to cook, clean, or care for any of them, which makes her less than perfect for them. Or does it?

If you are seeking an easy read that will leave you cheering at the end,
then I highly recommend "Flights of Fancy".
This is a delightfully uplifting movie to watch for New Years!
I have previously bypassed this movie several times because the trailers simply did not appeal to me. This has taught me that I should never solely rely on the trailers to give me a real representation of whether I will like a movie or not.
True to Hallmark style, this romantic movie is somewhat predictable when Kelly Leone meets Tom Malone, but the story is unique.
It is clear from the beginning that they are attracted to each other. However, due to Kelly's New Year's resolution to say "yes" to more social event invitations, their relationship doesn't start with Tom asking her out. He doesn't want her to feel forced to accept. Of course, nothing says Kelly can't pursue Tom. After all, Tom is not bound by any resolution. Plus, they have several upcoming social events in common.
Not only did I enjoy the romantic story, I also found myself laughing over several of the scenes. Truly a nice break and a great way for Hallmark lovers to start the new year.
A New Year's ResolutionCheck PriceKelly Leone is a dedicated morning show producer who has spent the last year working long hours and focusing on getting better ratings for her show. Now that she has finally gotten the show in a safe zone, she decides it is time for her to focus on her personal life. While her friends have been extremely understanding and patient with her busy work life, they do express how much they have missed her and want her back. Kelly recognizes that she has really missed out on some of the changes in their lives, plus the combination of "small moments that makes up the big important stuff in life".
Because of these revelations, Kelly decides to change her standard New Year's resolution. She commits herself to her friends and vows that she will accept any social invitation offered to her until her birthday in February. Her friends don't hesitate to start offering those social invitations, starting with a cold New Year's Day Polar Plunge into Lake Michigan. Other social invitations include the Blizzard Obstacle Course, speed dating, curling, and facing her greatest fear, a magician.
When the morning show cast hears of her resolution, they decide to make her the "star" of their new story. They follow her through her events and film her experiences for the show. Kelly prefers to be in the background, off camera, but she makes an adorable focus for the new series, as well as for this fun Hallmark movie.
Don't let the trailers keep your from watching this movie! Why not
join me and make it your New Year's resolution to ignore the trailers and
watch the movie for yourself.
