The Ultimate 1970s Riddles Playlist – Free, Fun, and Perfect for Parties!

The Ultimate 1970s Riddles Playlist – Free, Fun, and Perfect for Parties!

Take a Trip Back to the 1970s with My Riddle Playlist

If you’re planning a retro-themed party, celebrating a birthday for someone who grew up in the 1970s—or even the late 1960s—I’ve got a little something that can add some fun and laughter to the mix.

I created a special 1970s Riddles playlist on YouTube, and it’s the perfect, uncomplicated game to keep your guests entertained while maintaining a light, family-friendly, and just a touch nostalgic vibe.

Short, Fun Riddles That Anyone Can Play

The playlist is made up of 14 short-form Riddle videos (soon to be 15), each one inspired by the 1970s. What’s great about these Riddles is that they’re super quick—you won’t get bogged down with long explanations.

And to keep it fun, the answers aren’t shown on the Riddle itself; instead, I post them in the first comment. This way, everyone can guess first, then pause or peek at the answer when they’re ready.

It’s simple, interactive, and perfect for sparking a little friendly competition at your party.

Perfect for Any Occasion

Whether it’s a retro birthday bash, a casual family get-together, or even a holiday party over Christmas or New Year’s, these Riddles are a playful way to bring a little 1970s flair into the room.

Seniors and older adults especially seem to enjoy the nostalgic references, but honestly, anyone can have fun trying to solve them.

It’s one of those games that doesn’t require any preparation, props, or complicated rules—just laughter and a willingness to play along.

How to Enjoy the Playlist

Watching is easy.

You can go directly to the playlist on YouTube from your TV if it has the YouTube app.

Or, if you’re like me and want to control it from your phone, you can screen it to your TV—so you can pause, rewind, or skip around as needed.

Either way, it’s a smooth, low-effort way to add a little interactive fun to your party setup.

And because these Riddles are short, you can sprinkle them in between songs, serve snacks, or even use them as a light-hearted icebreaker.

Each Riddle takes just seconds to watch and guess, but it’s enough to get people chatting, laughing, and reminiscing about the good old days.

Why I Made This Playlist

As the creator of these Riddles, I wanted something that would combine my love for clever wordplay with a bit of nostalgia.

The 1970s had such a vibrant, unique culture—music, fashion, movies, and trends that still bring a smile today.

I thought, why not create a playlist that’s more than just music —a little game that taps into that decade and lets people connect over memories, laughs, and fun challenges?

Ready to Play?

If you’re curious or want to bring some retro fun to your next party, check out the 1970s Riddles playlist on YouTube. With 14 (soon to be 15) short videos, each with answers conveniently in the comments, it’s a ready-to-go party game that works for families, friends, and guests of any age.

It’s a light, playful way to get people talking, laughing, and maybe even singing along to some memories from the era. And even if your party isn’t specifically retro-themed, the Riddles are still a fun little brain teaser for anyone who enjoys a clever twist on nostalgia.

So grab your snacks, cue up the playlist, and get ready for some 1970s Riddle fun—you might just discover that retro game nights aren’t just for kids anymore!

Halloween Pencils & Straws Reviewed

Halloween pencils and straws
Whether you are planning a Halloween party, or simply want to send a special treat in your child's school lunchbox or backpack, Halloween straws and pencils make fun surprises.

When my children were in school, I always sought out fun and unique surprises to include in their lunchboxes.  Halloween straws were an absolute must and a fun way to celebrate Halloween all month long.  I normally sent disposable straws to school so they didn't need to keep up with them, but we also had specialty washable  & reusable straws at home for after school.  I still have Halloween straws in my kitchen drawer and pull them out to use just for fun.  Our favorites were always the pumpkins or bats, but I know my family would love the little ghosts or black cats too.

In addition to straws in their lunchboxes, I loved giving them Halloween pencils to use during the month of October.  Of course, I always made sure to purchase #2 pencils in accordance with classroom requirements.  It has been many years since they were in elementary school, but I still have a few orange pencils in the school supply drawer in our home.  Now they are mementos, but in years past, they were a fun and unique surprise during school days.

Pretty Christmas Ornament Suite for the Holidays

Christmas Card
This pretty Christmas ornament design is my painting of three Christmas ornaments on a wispy look background using lighter shades of the same colors.

The design on the Christmas ornaments is a resemblance of a paint pour. I'll describe that below, under Tips for making paint pour ornaments.

Here it is printed on a greeting card. The greeting card can be purchased as physical cards and or as a downloadable.

I have purchased cards from Zazzle before and have been pleased with my purchases. The colors come out great and card materials are nice quality. There are different materials to choose from for the card stock when you place your order.

A collection of current products is shown below. The link will take you to my CherylsArt store on Zazzle.

Tips for making paint pour ornaments:

I began this painting, using oval shapes, to design three Christmas ornaments. I was inspired to make a similar design that me and my family had created one Christmas. I had purchased clear plastic, see through Christmas balls from a craft store. I already had a variety of acrylic paint that was labeled for all surfaces, on hand. It is the acrylic paint that is made for crafting. I usually buy the Americana brand, but have been known to purchase whatever is available at the time.

We already had a portable clothes drying rack to hang the ornaments from while they dried.

The technique we used was to pour paint over the ornaments, in various colors, and let the paint flow and drip down onto the floor. I had covered the floor with newspaper ahead of time to catch the drippings.

Then you wait and let them dry. You can use regular hooks for hanging ornaments, or you can tie ribbons through the holes for hanging. I would wait until the paint as dried if you want to use ribbons.

I liked that we used a variety of colors that weren't necessarily traditional Christmas colors; which made this activity all the more fun and creative for me and my family.

Will you be making this fun activity part of your holiday activities? If so, do let me know in a comment below.

If you like this pretty paint pour design that I painted, you can check out the items already available in my collection. More items will be added as I design them, and if you have a request for it to be on a particular product that you want to purchase, do let me know that too. I'll be sure to design it and add it to the collection.

May all of your holidays be creative and have happiness in them too.

Cheryl Paton

Wednesday Addams American Girl Doll Review

Discover American Girl's Limited-Edition Wednesday Addams Family doll. She's an unusual release that would surely please any Wednesday fan!

Wednesday is a popular Netflix series based on Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family. The first season, which aired in 2022, saw Wednesday, who is played by Jenna Ortega, try to solve a murder at Nevermore Academy.

The series received positive reviews from the critic with Wikipedia saying that it was "the second most watched English Netflix series." The second season was released in 2025 and the show has since been renewed for a third season.

DOLL DESCRIPTION

The show is popular enough to have created some interesting merchandise including the American Girl doll named Wednesday who appears here on this page. The Hollywood Reporter says that the American Girl doll company has “gone goth.” For this doll, American Girl partnered with Amazon MGM Studios.

Packed in a special collector box with a certificate of authenticity, she sold for $295 U.S. According to American Girl Fandom, she was released on July 21, 2025 and sold out six days later on July 27, 2025. The limited-edition doll, with a run of 6,000 individually numbered dolls, was available on both the American Girl and the Amazon websites.

Wednesday is like many other Truly Me American Girl dolls, measuring 18-inches with opening and closing eyes, a vinyl head and limbs and a soft body. This doll, of course, looks like the Wednesday character that many love. She has black pigtails, bangs that are called ‘curtain bangs', painted eyelashes, feathered eyebrows and freckles. Her black velvet dress has a white sateen Peter Pan-style collar and long sleeves. The dress features an embroidered pattern that looks like a floral print and has interesting black buttons. She wears black tights and panties and shiny black patent kitten-heel Mary Jane-style shoes. Her accessories include a Thing figurine, two bags of piranhas and a fake silver-colored obsidian necklace.

Better Homes and Gardens predicts that, at least in part because of the popularity of Wednesday, this Halloween will see a trend to “dark academia, gothic, Victorian, and downright spooky style and decor.” I agree and think that this doll would make a great part of anyone's Halloween decor collection. Plus, because of the fact that it is a limited-edition doll, I believe that it will increase in value in the years to come.

UNBOXING VIDEO

Here's a short video unboxing of Wednesday:

The Witchy Boo-Boos of Halloween Night - A Chaotic Short Story

The Witchy Boo-Boos of Halloween Night - A Chaotic Short Story

The Witchy Boo-Boos of Halloween Night

The Spell Gone Wrong

Hazel, Griselda, and Moondrop weren't your average witches. For one thing, their brooms had more duct tape than straw, and their black cat had defected to the neighbor's porch two Halloweens ago.

But this year, the sisters had big plans.

"We're taking over the town!" Hazel declared, waving her wand like she was conducting an orchestra. "Every man, woman, and child will croak as frogs by midnight!"

Unfortunately, Hazel had a small problem: she never read instructions all the way through. So, when she mispronounced the spell, instead of turning the townsfolk into frogs… she turned herself into one. With a pop and a puff, there sat Hazel, slimy and green, blinking her bulgy eyes.

Griselda laughed so hard she fell into the cauldron.

But before she could crawl out, poof! she too was a frog. Then Moondrop, in her attempt to "fix it immediately," only managed to hop right into the same trap.

Three frog-witches croaked in chorus under the moonlight, glaring at each other from the pumpkin patch, so much for world domination.

The Witchy Boo-Boos of Halloween Night - A Chaotic Short Story The Three Useless Witches

From Frogs to Goats - Total Incompetence!

As frogs, the sisters had limited spell-casting power, but Griselda—always the bossy one—was determined to fix their slimy situation. She hopped onto a toadstool, puffed up her throat, and croaked out a forgotten rhyme she half-remembered from Witch School:

"Eye of newt, tail of bat,
Get us out of this, and fast at that!"

The air shimmered, the ground shook, and then—BOOM! Gone were the frogs. Success? Well… not exactly.

Instead of returning to their witchy selves, they were now goats. Yes, goats. With witch hats perched between their horns and long, crooked noses somehow still attached, they stood bleating on the side of a windswept mountain.

Hazel tried to bleat with authority: "We're… still… powerful!" But the only thing that came out was "Maaaahhh!"

The goats slipped and slid on the rocks, their robes caught on branches, and one of them even started nibbling on her own spellbook. Scary? Not so much. Spectacularly ridiculous? Absolutely.

Bikini Witches in Bali - It All Went South!

By now, Moondrop was done. "We are never going to make it to town at this rate," she bleated, stomping a hoof.

Determined, she concentrated harder than ever before, her goat-eyes glowing green. "This time, no mistakes!"

The mountain swirled. The goats spun like tops. A burst of fireworks filled the sky. And then—swoosh!—the sisters found themselves lying on soft sand with the sun beating down.

WHAT!

They were back in their witchy bodies! But there was one small catch: instead of flowing black gowns, they were now squeezed into neon bikinis!

Hazel's funky swimsuit sagged in all the wrong places, Griselda's hat flopped over her sunglasses, and Moondrop's green skin was already turning a suspicious shade of sunburn.

Each held a martini glass that didn't even have a paper umbrella, staring in disbelief at the turquoise waves rolling in.

Hazel finally slumped back in her lounge chair. “Maybe… just maybe… Halloween isn't our thing."

Griselda raised her glass. "To ghosts. Let them handle the haunting! We suck."

The three witches clinked their witchy potions together in defeat.

And so, on that Halloween night, while the rest of the world celebrated spooks and scares, three witches in bikinis sat in Bali, drinking martinis, and admitting once and for all—they were better at beach vacations than at being scary.

The Witches went to Bali and left the haunting up to ghosts

Review of National Fried Rice Day

A delicious food holiday celebrated on September 20th each year.

Image of a dish of fried rice

National Fried Rice Day Origins

In 2018, the renowned Japanese restaurant chain Benihana partnered with the National Day Calendar to create the National Fried Rice Day holiday. This flavorful holiday was founded to spotlight the culinary importance of high-quality rice and encourage people to enjoy their favorite versions of fried rice.

I have seen many versions of recipes for fried rice. It is a popular and tasty way to use up leftovers, especially turkey, chicken and pork. Most of these recipes appear to include peas & carrots, but my preferred version instead includes onions and/or scallions and mushrooms. The scrambled eggs are one of my favorite ingredients. Therefore, I usually add an extra egg for LOTS of egg in every bite. I’ve often made fried rice with leftover roast turkey or rotisserie chicken, but my most favorite is Shrimp Fried Rice.

Personal Fried Rice Story

A dish of fried riceAs a newlywed, I was not a very good cook, as you can see by some of my earliest cooking disasters in my story ‘Potholder Soup’. Actually, if truth be told, I couldn’t cook at all.

It took a long time, but I finally learned to cook. Luckily, my hubby was a good cook, so he didn't starve while I learned. (LOL)

During those first couple of years, my parents used to come visit about twice a year (especially after their very first grandchild was born). Each visit, my dad (the cook in our family during my growing up years) would give me a cooking lesson of one of my favorite childhood dishes. One trip, the lesson was how to prepare ‘fried rice’ since we had leftover turkey from a roast turkey meal.

First, you have to understand that my dad had a fantastic sense of humor, so you never knew what he was going to come up with. On this particular evening, as we began to gather the ingredients for our fried rice dish, dad announced that the time it takes for food preparation of any recipe can be measured by beer! It is either a 1-beer, 2-beer, or 3-beer job. I  like beer, just like my dad, but my limit is usually one; maybe sometimes two. We enjoyed cooking the meal together, completed the recipe, and the family enjoyed a delicious fried rice meal.

Now it’s about five years later. My parents were coming for a visit, and I wanted to make something comforting yet practical—chicken fried rice. It’s one of those dishes that can be made ahead of time and still taste great no matter when they arrive.

At dinnertime, I served the chicken fried rice. As we were eating, my mom asked “how much soy sauce did you use in this dish of fried rice?”

Me: “Soy Sauce?” “Soy Sauce?”

Do you believe that my original cooking lesson of fried rice became a 3-beer job? And that the soy sauce was the last ingredient to be added? Well ~ I admit I have absolutely no memory of the soy sauce ingredient! For five years I made meals of fried rice - with NO soy sauce. Hubby used to add it to his portion, but never once asked me why I didn’t use it in the recipe. I think he thought I didn’t like soy sauce, so never mentioned it.

Needless to say, I now know ALL the ingredients for my fried rice recipes. :)

So, for National Fried Rice Day, or any day you are in the mood for fried rice, pick your favorite recipe (or look online for a new one), and enjoy this tasty Asian dish. Don’t forget the soy sauce!
