Reviewing the Huogantom Magnetic Cell Phone Tripod

"You have to order this" my friend said to me, sending the link to a little gadget. I hadn't thought I needed a handheld phone tripod but he was insistent that I order it. My friend was right, this cell phone tripod is super handy and has been helpful in so many ways; hands-free video chatting, recording videos from different angles, and reading or watching a variety of things. I have used this handy cellphone tripod on a daily basis.

Huogantom Magnetic Phone Tripod

The link my friend had sent to me was for the Huogantom phone tripod. In internet searches, there are many small cell phone tripods available. This particular design is perfect for me.

  • Strong magnetic attachment
  • sturdy aluminum alloy
  • versatile - desktop stand, handheld
  • easy vertical or horizontal orientation
  • carabiner clip design
  • Hands-free recording
  • easy positioning perfect for video chats, watching movies, and/or reading that online recipe.
  • The sturdy frame is cleverly spaced so that the tripod legs fold and store flat into the frame. the time of this writing, this tripod is rated at 5 out of 5 stars on Amazon

At the time of this writing, this tripod is rated at 5 out of 5 stars on Amazon.

My Personal Thoughts.

I hadn't been looking at additional tripods since I have a tabletop phone holder that I've liked very much. With the table top cell phone holder, it is easy to film downward angles, it is very sturdy, and it is adjustable in height. It is not easily portable but even so, I wasn't in the market for another tripod.

The carabiner type clip has been awesome in helping to keep track of the tripod during outings. I have clipped it to my yarn bag straps so that I don't have to rummage around in the bottom of my bag to find the tripod.

With this very small phone tripod (small enough to fit into my jacket pocket) I really like the magnetic attachment. It is much easier to use than the other clip designs on other phone stands, including my tabletop stand and stands I've borrowed from my friend. While the sturdy clips on those other stands ensure the phone will not fall out, I have a great deal of difficulty clipping the phone in and releasing it. Some of those spring clips are so firm that it hurts my hands and is very frustrating.

The magnetic attachment on my Huogotom tripod is so strong that the magnets click together when I'm moving the phone close to the stand. While I would not hold my phone above water, while running/hiking, or any jarring activities where my phone might bounce loose and become damaged. As a countertop tripod, that magnetic attachment is plenty strong enough. And I don't have to struggle to disengage my phone from the stand.

I have found that this small tripod also seems to be decreasing the amount of times I drop my phone around the house. Like those little Pop Sockets that increase a person's grip on their phone, this tripod increases my grip on my phone. I am developing significant grip issues and this tripod assists me by giving me more than my phone to hold on to.

Only One Minor Complaint. I ended up purchasing a different magnet sticker for my phone. Possibly because I have an Android phone and a protective case, rather than an iPhone, I used the circular magnet sticker that was included with the tripod. That magnet portion of the sticker was very strong. The adhesive portion of the sticker was not as strong and failed soon after I began using the tripod. I will admit that I am clumsy, and the failure of the adhesive may have been "operator error". It was easy enough to remedy. I purchased flat magnetic strips and what was described as "strong adhesive".

The table top, Overhead Phone Mount stand I purchased is awesome. I love the down-views it provides so I can share videos of my crochet projects in progress. It is also very helpful for video chats and selfies.  The drawback is that it is sturdy and not suitable for throwing into a bag or taking on outdoor adventures.

Extreme Cold Weather Safety Tips - Reviewed

In January and February, most of the country is experiencing extreme cold, snow, and ice. Here in Western New York, we have had 8-plus days with temperatures below freezing and wind chills below zero.

Extreme cold weather tips

The photo above shows our driveway during a recent snowstorm. We have the driveway plowed, but when the street and sidewalk are cleared, the snow builds up at the bottom of our driveway. I've been stuck twice this year and had to dig my car out. As I write this today, the temperature is below zero with a wind chill of -30 degrees.

Risks of Extreme Cold:

  • Hypothermia occurs when the body loses heat faster than it can produce it.
  • Frostbite will damage your skin and tissue.
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning is caused by improper heating methods.
  • Slips and falls, due to icy surfaces.
Knowing these risks is the first step in preventing cold-weather emergencies.

Dress Smart: Layer Up Properly

Dressing properly is one of the simplest safety tips for extreme cold.

  • Wearing multiple loose layers will trap warm air.
  • Add insulated outerwear that is wind- and water-resistant.
  • Don't forget hats, gloves, scarves, and boots.
Protecting Your Home:

  • Keep your thermostat set to a consistent temperature.
  • Insulate pipes to prevent freezing and bursting.
  • Seal drafts around doors and windows.
  • Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate.
  • When temperatures are below zero, turn your faucet on to drip. This keeps water moving and prevents freezing.
If you do turn on your faucet, make sure it is the cold water. Fran set the hot water faucet to a drip when the temperature was below zero, and I woke up to a cold shower.

Prepare an Emergency Winter Kit:

Add these items to the car if you have to travel:

  • Jumper cables.
  • Ice Scrapers.
  • Sand or kitty litter. (If you're stuck, use this under your tires for traction)
  • High-energy snacks
When temperatures are below freezing and below zero, limit outdoor time. Check on neighbors, and don't leave your pets out too long.

Cold weather can cause dry and itchy skin. I always use a good moisturizing lotion for my skin.

Preparing for extreme weather with these tips will help keep you and your family safe.

Beurre D'Isigny Butter Review

I should begin this review with a disclaimer that it would be rare for me to meet a piece, stick, tub or block of  butter I did not like!  I am a fan of butter and only use butter for baking. I always favorite a brand of butter my family has used for decades which also leads to reliability when baking.

However, I do like to try different products and this butter caught my eye as it landed at the top of the list for Butters of 2025! A quick look around my neighborhood grocery and I found Beurre D'Isigny.

beurre dlsigny butter

The butter came in a block form and was definitely priced higher than other brand name butters, but in the same price range as what I would consider premium brands. I used the salted version, but an unsalted version is also available

Creamy

Yes! Yes! and Yes! The perfect consistency for melt in your mouth butter. The butter complements and does not distract when spread on breads and rolls.

 Spread --- ability

This butter was a delight to spread! Directly from the refrigerator and the butter can be easily spread with a knife. I was suspect as the butter was in a block; no need to be suspect, the butter truly is easy to spread from the block cold.

The consistency was perfect to spread with the portion in mind. My usual butter is not easily spread from stick form; the butter cannot be spread cold without breaking apart the bread.

Taste

Smooth, sweet, velvet, silky, rich are a few adjectives which come to mind.

What Makes This Butter Different?

  • Pastures: The Isigny area is known for its' mineral rich grasses which the cows enjoy.
  • AOP is the status to ensure the butter is made in the specific region with specific traditional process.
  • Additive Free
  • Beurre D'Isigny is a type of cows' milk in Normandy, France
  • Smooth As Silk
  • Salt crystals on outside
  • Dates back to 16th Century

Recommendation

I did not bake with this butter, so no opinion! This is definitely a butter I like to have in the refrigerator, especially to use on bread, bagels or rolls or baked goods.  Due to the price it is not practical to use for everyday cooking, but...

Godiva Chocolate Reviewed

Godiva Chocolate Gift
My husband has been giving me Godiva Chocolate for Valentine's Day and Christmas for decades.

We first discovered this brand while shopping in a mall and seeing the Godiva store.  Back then, they boxed their candy in beautiful tin collectible boxes.  In recent years, they started using decorative boxes covered in fabric, some have even had lovely embroidered designs.  I keep the tins and decorative boxes and use them in my craft room.  The boxes alone have been gifts, but the chocolate is divine.

Over the years, I started getting headaches when eating chocolate.  Some of my favorite things like chocolate ice cream or candy bars have become a thing of the past for me.  However, Godiva chocolate stands out as the one chocolate candy I can still enjoy.  For some reason, perhaps the type of cocoa they use, Godiva chocolate does not give me headaches.  That is pretty fantastic!  It is a way for me to still delve into the world of chocolate without paying a painful price.

Now, don't tell my husband, but I saw the package of Godiva chocolate for Valentine's Day delivered yesterday.  I left the box on the porch and acted totally ignorant.  Our Ring doorbell doesn't really allow me to be ignorant, but we can pretend.

Godiva Chocolate for Valentine's Day

We have to purchase Godiva Chocolate online these days.  The store in the mall shut down years ago.  As of 2021, there are no Godiva brick and mortar stores.  Fortunately, the candy is still available online.  They still have a few tins available, but most of the larger boxes of candy now come in a gold box with a decorative ribbon.

No matter how the chocolate is packaged, the candy is delicious!

Reviewing Liquid Level Indicators For People With Sight Loss.

 liquid level indicator

A Liquid level indicator is not something I  had heard of until my husband was diagnosed with severe sight loss-blind.

It is surprising all the little things you take for granted when you are sighted and how much you need to relearn or adapt with sight loss.

Simply making a hot drink, a tea, a coffee had become some thing just a little more difficult for my husband. We did not know what he was supposed to do to know how high the hot water was. Did he just put his finger at the top of the mug and risk being burned, or did he give up making hot drinks altogether?

Even cold drinks were an issue as unless made over the sink we could have many spills to clear up.

Making a hot drink became a real challenge. We worried that he would burn himself or spill hot or cold liquids over the worktops and floor, it then itself becoming a safety hazard, or put his hand in hot liquids. Suddenly something that most adults take for granted became an issue and a lack of independence.

We went to an information session soon after he was diagnosed. It was all a little overwhelming but we noticed that the drinks were being made by a blind person and we kept hearing these little bleeps and I noticed a small device hung over the mugs. It wasn't long before the session began and drinks were handed out. So I asked what is that device you used and he started to explain.

In this article we will be using the terms severe sight impaired, blind, low vision, partially sighted and sight loss as these are the current acceptable terms in my country for people with sight loss. This may change over time and be different in different countries. No offence is intended by any of these terms.

liquid level indicator

What Is a Liquid Level Indicator And How Does It Work?

It is a small device that clips  or hangs onto the edge of a cup, mug, soup mug or glass.

1. Place it so that the metal prongs are on the inside of the container. Often there are two levels of prongs one for a general alert - this is when you should stop pouring. However, If you carry on pouring there is often an emergency alert when you must stop pouring.

2.Then you simply pour the liquid as usual from the kettle, tap or jug.

3. As the level of the liquid rises the liquid touches the metal prongs and device uses sound or vibration to let you know when the mug, glass, jug or whatever is nearly full.

4. These alerts give you enough time to stop pouring before the liquid reaches the top.

5. Then you stop and take the device off the mug or glass. Simple as that !

There are different models to choose from but that is the essentials of every Liquid level indicator. It then all depends what you are wanting and what is most helpful to a person individually.

  • Most have an alert when the liquid nearly reaches the top.
  • Many have two alert levels, one when the mug or glass is nearly full and one emergency alert when it is nearly to the top.
  • Some have bleeping and vibration when liquid is reaching the top.
  • Some advanced models differentiate between hot and cold liquids, offering stronger alerts for hot drinks to enhance safety. We don't have that one, but may consider it for the future.
  • I have also heard of "smart" models which link to a smartphone but these are not common and  I have not experienced one.

My husband is happy with our quite straightforward model which bleeps and vibrates when the liquid is close to the top. It is clear, simple and effective.

It takes only a very little time to get used to using it and to remember to use it, but it is not a steep learning curve. There are no courses to go on or skills you need to know. It is just practice and habit.

My husband said it is very easy for him to use. It is a good idea to start with a cold drink and then progress to hot drinks once you feel  confident.

Why Does Being Able To Make A Simple Drink Matter?

For many people with severe sight loss, pouring drinks is a significant and frequent challenging task throughout the day. Think about how many times you make a drink in a typical day !

Especially when making hot drinks, it becomes a safety issue and can carry a real risk of burns. Not being able to make a drink safely robs a person of autonomy and independence.

A liquid level indicator helps

  • Preventing burns from overfilled hot drinks, or feeling the need to stick a finger in the cup to test how far the liquid has reached, which is a significant safety risk.
  • Reducing spills and cleaning them up.
  • Reducing the risk of slipping on wet floors
  • Supporting independence and confidence in normal, everyday tasks
  • Supports a person with sight loss still being able to make drinks for themselves and friends and family.
  • For people who live alone it is essential to be able to make a drink safely.
  • Even if living with other people or at work, the ability to make a drink for yourself and others is a small but significant sign of independence. My husband now loves to make me a hot drink of coffee in the morning and it is a lovely start the day !
  • Although primarily used by people who are diagnosed severe sight impaired or partially sighted, this device can also be useful to people who have tremors or motor impairments and people who may have declining vision, macular degeneration, cataracts or other sight issues.

Features To Consider In A Liquid Level Indicator

  • Audible alerts, look for clear, loud beeps
  • Vibration mode is useful if the person also has hearing loss or just prefers a vibration rather than a noise. The vibration should be strong enough to feel through the hand holding the container.
  • Some have both audible and vibration alerts which can be useful in busy, noisy places.
  • Magnetic can be useful. We love ours as it sticks the fridge freezer so takes up no room on worktops and is vey easy for my husband to find.
  • Lightweight and easy to carry so it can be taken when travelling and visiting friends and family, to hotels etc.
  • Heat resistant as clearly it needs to be safe to use with very hot drinks.
  • A good battery and/or rechargeable battery
  • A good price, many are not expensive, it all depends how sophisticated you would like it to be, but a basic model works well. Some organisations and sight loss charities provide them at a reduced cost.

So a liquid level indicator is another example of a low tech, reasonably priced and simple device that can make a huge difference to independence, confidence, dignity and safety for a person with sight loss. It is now just a part of our kitchen devices and appliances and we would not be without it.

Fluffy Fleece Loungewear Pajamas for Women Reviewed

fleece loungewear pajamas
My mother has pretty much everything she needs or wants.  Buying a gift for her is rather challenging.  I spent some time searching Amazon products before Christmas, asking myself questions about each thing I considered and then rejecting it.  That is, until I found this really cute fleece loungewear outfit.

Mom and I are both always cold.  Seriously!  It can be 70° outside, but with the air conditioner on inside, we get cold.  It seems an odd dance.  We love air conditioning, but we also like to be warm.  This fleece loungewear will most likely be a year round part of our wardrobe.

Oh, yes!  I did say "our" wardrobe.  I had put the outfit on my wishlist so I could go back and buy it for Mom once I decided on a color and size.  It was on the wishlist for less than 48 hrs, but that was clearly an important 48 hours.  During that time, my son checked out my wishlist to select a gift for me for Christmas.  Obviously, he liked the loungewear because he purchased it for me.

Christmas morning was rather humorous when Mom opened her gift first and he thought the wrong gift went to her.  She loved it so much, he was not about to open his mouth and say anything though.  It would be easy to mix up gifts when handing them out since I call Mom, "Mom" and my son calls me "Mom", but there was no mix-up.  When I opened my gift, he was greatly relieved to see me pull out the same fluffy blue outfit.  The rest of us were confused at why he was laughing, but a brief conversation between us revealed what had happened.  Turns out, the gift was perfect for both of us!

Since Christmas morning, we have run around looking like 2 blue polar bears.  Mom and I both wear the loungeware over our pajamas.  We even wear the jackets when going back and forth to each other's homes.

The listing says they are pajamas.  I have not worn the outfit as pajamas, but Mom has.  She loves how warm and lightweight they are even when sleeping.

If you can't stand the cold, I highly recommend this fluffy fleece loungewear, day or night!

Bedsure Fleece Women's Pajamas

Bedsure Fleece Womens Pajama SetsCheck PriceThe Bedsure fleece loungewear pajamas are 100% polyester and extremely soft.  Plus, they are very lightweight.  I love the pockets in the jacket!  They are perfect for my cellphone, keys, Kleenex, hair clips, etc.

Mom and I are both short.  The ribbed cuffs at the wrists and ankles are great.  The ribbing keeps the fabric the right length without having tight elastic or requiring alterations.

It is also machine wash and dry, which mean we don't have to be parted from our blue bear suits for long.  I have washed mine several times and it still looks as good as the day I opened the package.

  • Very Soft
  • Warm
  • Comfortable
  • Jacket and Pants included
  • Button front Jacket
  • 2 Pockets
  • Currently available in several colors.

Being Gentle With Yourself ~ From the Heart~ A Product Review

Somewhere in this New Year I thought  2026 was going to be a little different.  Why?  Well, for starters my mind was telling me I should be making a plan for a New Year's Resolution, but my body was telling me a whole different story.

I've been told for ages that aging is not for sissies and while I was younger, I would laugh and think that's a crazy thing to say.  But now that I am in that "older" category, I'm beginning to understand what everyone was talking about!!

We get glimpses of what will happen when and if we are/were lucky enough to look after our aging parents.  We learn to help them do those little tasks that they find difficult.  What we don't see is that one day (God willing)  it will be us who are in need of that help.

woman with grandson

Thank goodness there are so many "tools" out there, that benefit us as we are aging.  Let's look at just a couple of these tools.

My first most important tool, is a really good pair of walking shoes.  Shoes that fit nice, are easy to put on and take off, and give my feet the support they need.  After all just because we are getting older doesn't mean that we should just sit down and not move.  As a matter of fact, walking is the best exercise you can get for all ages, but especially as you are aging.  So for me, those walking shoes are the " Skechers Slip In shoes".  They are great shoes and I have one pair for walking and another pair for more dressy occasions. I have given up wearing dresses for the ease and comfort of trousers, so there is no need for me to wear high heels at any time. anymore.  A small price to pay for comfort! But just for added convenience, they are so light on your feet that I know you will love them.

walking shoes

The Second tool that I would highly recommend for anyone who loves walking, but has just a little fear of falling, would be my Walking Poles. I have written about these poles before, but I must mention them again.  These poles are wonderful for giving you that extra little bit of help with balance.  While we are aging our sense of balance and our vision seem to deteriorate.  These walking poles are amazing for help with easing that small difficulty.  Once you start using them, you will find that you just don't want to go out without them.  If you want to read more check out my "older" story here! Formally called Nordic Walking Poles, they are a must have in our home and our life.

My third tool for today is a Grabber, Reacher Tool!   Just last year, I took a tumble and broke my shoulder.  Yes, I did do that.  It wasn't fun and the aftereffects were not a whole bunch of fun either.  But the good news is that my shoulder still works.  So I'm thankful for that.  But the bad news is that my reach isn't what it used to be.  So I find that many times I need just that little bit of extra help to get things into and out of the cupboard.  Enter my new friend in the kitchen, the Grabber/Reacher tool!  So no more excuses for leaving things on the counter for someone else to put away,  grab the tool and put it to use.

All of these tools are good for younger people as well, they aren't made just for seniors.  But if you have a senior in your life and they don't have some of these tools, they would make a great gift!

I have decided that the most important thing for me in 2026 is to be gentle with myself.  Realize that aging is a gift that many don't get!  It will take me a little longer to do the things that I used to do with ease.  But, I'm still here to do them.  Even if I do them a little slower and with some added help.

Aging is a process and each day a new challenge can and possibly will arise, so be ready and make it easier on yourself by using the tools that are out there!

Every day is a gift and we need and should be gentle with ourselves as we open our eyes to all kinds of new possibilities!

Piano Learning and Tips for Setup

keyboard

I am actually relearning piano, and I'll share with you some background and tips for piano choice and setup.

Many years ago, I considered myself a beginner to beginner intermediate piano player. However, my piano became damaged, and there went my piano playing days.

Over 15 years later, I decided I wanted to play again and told my husband what I wanted for Christmas. I wanted an electric keyboard by Yamaha.

My very first piano was an upright piano that I saw at a garage sale. It was just up the street from me, and it was only $100. I hired some of my co-workers to pick it up and bring it to my house. Where they sat it is where it stayed for the length of time that I owned it. It was too heavy for even my husband and I to push together to have it straightened up with the wall. But that really didn't matter. I played it anyway. But the other thing about the upright piano, was that it required regular tuning. It was something that had to be done around quarterly. Perhaps it was its age, and also it was due to temperature changes with the seasons.

The electric piano that I got after that first piano, was a Clavinova by Yamaha. I really liked it. It had weighted keys, and pretty much played like a regular piano, and it didn't require any tuning. I bought this one from a music store, it was pre-internet days. It was built into its own stand and looked like a real piano. I probably had it around ten years or so. However, I had an elderly cat at the time that had peed on it. It affected the inner parts of the piano, and the repairman couldn't make the keys that were affected, make their normal piano sound again. I went piano-less for approximately 15 years.

Based on my previous experience, I knew I wanted an electric piano again. I was also impressed with Yamaha, and did some searches on that to see what was available. We decided on a Yamaha P143. This time, I wanted just the keyboard instead of having it built into the stand. I could have gotten this model with a stand that was specifically made for it. But I had noticed that there were stands that were adjustable and also piano benches that were adjustable too. I went the adjustable route, and am glad that I did.

As my husband and I got it set up, I remembered in my Book One piano book, about the proper way to set at the piano. The person's legs should be at a right angle from the bench, with their feet being flat on the floor. So we made adjustments to the bench first so that I could sit properly. From there, I positioned my arms as if I were playing, to determine the height of where the piano should sit on the adjustable stand. Voila, I had a piano and bench that were both at the right height for me. That is a God-send. My back is a lot more comfortable from what I remember it being from my earlier piano experiences.

Since it had been so long since my previous piano, I had gotten rid of my piano books. I wanted something without a lot of sharps and or flats, and chose a beginner level with Disney songs. I was plugging along, but soon realized that I needed a refresher, especially for the bass clef staff. It's not too late for me to relearn playing piano. : )

The same company that I had a lot of my teaching books from when I first learned piano, was still around. This time, they combined different lesson types into one book. In book one, they include both theory and solo. It has you start off playing using numbers to identify your fingers, and to play strings of notes and short songs using a number method. As you get practice with that, it then moves on to identifying the notes on the scales. I'm over half way through this first book and have ordered the second book. My skills and my confidence are both improving.

If you are thinking about getting a piano, I recommend first deciding on what is important to you, and also the amount of space that you have for a piano. The digital piano, for the most part, takes up less space. You can get keyboards with less keys even, or get a full size keyboard. If you are getting a digital piano, I also recommend getting a stand and a bench that can be adjusted. (Unless the standard height is already a perfect for you.) Digital pianos are also more portable, should you be in a band something, and need to transport it.

Some people still prefer the overall feel and sound of a regular (non-digital) piano. If you are leaning this way, I do recommend that you try out different models, both for the sound, and also for the comfort level. There are probably options out there that I may not be aware of; just check it out and see what works best for you.

The model that I got has ten different sounds that you can choose from, from basic piano, to grand piano, harpsichord, strings, and more. It's kind of nice to pick a different sound to play, especially if you want to practice the same song over repeatedly. : ) It also has a sustain pedal. You can see the Yamaha P143 digital keyboard and check the price on Amazon.

I chose the adjustable piano stand and bench by Liquid Stands, which is also on Amazon: Adjustable stand and bench combo. It took a bit of figuring it out on how to put these items together, but we got it done. Liquid Stands also included a number that one could call should they need help.

The beginner book that I got as a refresher is Alfred's Basic Piano Library, All in One Course. You can check out this beginner level piano book on Amazon. The pictures are for kids, but it still works.

There are also other Yamaha models to choose from on Amazon. All the best to you in finding the type of piano that works best for you and the tunes and lessons too.

Reviewing AEAC Smart Watch for Women

smart watch
This is the display I use on my watch

My lovely husband got me the AEAC Smart Watch for Christmas and I love it. I really wanted a watch with a pedometer so that I could easily track my steps, but this one does so much more.

This watch looks like an expensive brand, but if you have an Amazon Prime account it's very affordable.

When you get the watch you will first have to download the app on your phone and then it's time to get acquainted with your watch.

For full disclosure: this watch does a lot of things that I have not used as I didn't want to give it a lot of permissions - I have allowed it to send my SMS messages to my watch, but no other notifications & I didn't allow calls to come through.

You can choose to have it display in 12 or 24 hour time and there's a selection of different displays you can choose from.

I wear it night and day and it needs to be recharged about every 6 days.

The main reason I got it was for tracking my steps which it does really well, you can set targets for yourself, but be warned it will vibrate your wrist when you hit them - this gave me a fright the first time it happened!

One feature which I didn't think I would need was the find phone one, one week of wearing the watch and I did misplace my phone (very unusual for me) so I pressed the button on my watch and it caused my phone to ring. This only works if you do not have your phone on silent.

A feature I have found very interesting is the sleep feature. Some nights I might go to bed late so have less sleep, but feel more refreshed than other nights when I do get my 8 hours which is really frustrating. This watch explains why as it records how much light, deep and REM sleep you have as well as how much time you're awake. It's interesting (to me anyway) that on the mornings I don't feel refreshed on waking I haven't had much REM sleep.

As a side note doing the 7-day fresh start actually improved my sleep quite a bit, something I wouldn't have taken notice of if it wasn't for the watch.

The watch also registers your heart rate, stress levels, oxygen levels all of which are very handy things to keep track of. It also has a formula it applies to give you a body energy score which is scarily accurate, although I'm not a 100% certain I understand how it does this one.

There is also an alarm feature on the watch which has been really handy when I've had to do something during the day - I can get on with other things knowing that it doesn't matter if I lose track of the time as my watch has me covered.

There are so many other features that I have only scratched the surface of this watch, but I really recommend it. I definitely won't be spending the money on a brand name smart watch with the results I am having with this one.

Reviewing Arbonne's 7-Day Fresh Start

arbonne 7 day fresh start
Arbonne's 7-Day Fresh Start was developed as a way to support people who wanted to try intermittent fasting.

I was very intrigued about trying two of the three products in the set - the Morning Matcha and the Golden Renewal Protein, but I really didn't think intermittent fasting would work for me & my lifestyle.

I decided to give it a go whilst I was on a break from both of my jobs. This meant starting my journey on December 31st 2025.

Read on for my personal experience and my takeaways or go straight to the product and read up about it on the site - 7-Day Fresh Start.

Below is what a sample day on the 7-day fresh start should look like in Australia (in other markets there is a different probiotic supplement, but you take it at the same time as the bioticsticks).

arbonne fresh start chart
Sample Day (Australia) on 7-Day Fresh Start

I decided that 10am -6pm as my eating window (which was the recommended one) wouldn't work the best for us so I used 11am - 7pm instead.

I had all of my goodies ready to go, the 7-Day Fresh Start contains 3 products - Morning Matcha sachets, Golden Renewal Protein sachets and a probiotic supplement. The probiotic supplement available is different depending on the market, here in Australia we get the Biotic Sticks which I absolutely love. In the US they have OmniGut Daily Probiotic which isn't available for Australia and New Zealand.

Day One started with my Morning Matcha which I decided to made with boiling water because I have only tried a hot matcha  before. When I made this it smelt very strong and grassy. I was extremely nervous about tasting it as I've only had matcha as a matcha latte with either coconut, almond or oat milk previously. My nerves were totally unjustified as the matcha tasted great!

I was starting to feel a little 'hangry' about half an hour before I was due to break my fast so I was over the moon when my alarm went off and I could enjoy the Golden Renewal Protein shake. I merely mixed the sachet with water and served it over some ice cubes - not a fan!

The shake gave me Chai vibes with the flavours, I enjoy a warm Chai for a cozy feeling so I'm wondering if it was simply because it was cold that I didn't like it. I do know that my taste buds thought it seemed a little harsh - lucky I was hungry!

The shake also didn't fill me up very much so I was very happy to get stuck into my lunch an hour and a half later. Lunch was a delicious leftover Christmas ham with a couple of different salads.

Another healthy meal for dinner which was supposed to be followed by my probiotic, but I forgot so took it just before bed instead.

Luckily, you can enjoy tea (no milk) while in your fasting window so I was able to enjoy my chamomile tea before bed.

Day 2 - I decided to enjoy an iced Matcha instead of a warm one - I didn't really enjoy it cold, I'm not sure if it's the taste or I have just been programmed over the years to have a hot drink in the mornings.

Mid-morning I had a Clean Tox tea which I enjoyed. I should note that you can have 1-2 Matcha's in the morning, I just enjoy my Clean Tox and it was allowed during fasting so that was my personal choice.

When it was time to enjoy my golden protein renewal shake I decided to add a few things to it as recommended by a friend.

I added the powder to water, 1/2 frozen banana, 1 tsp almond butter and some ice cubes. I blitzed it all up and I enjoyed it which was good. It was also more filling, which was a bonus.

On Day 3, my husband brought me in a cup of Arbonne's Clean Tox tea in the morning as he forgot I was having matcha in the morning. I enjoyed it and then had my matcha about 10am, by 10.30 I had a pit so I was very happy when 11 o'clock came around.

This time I made my shake with:

  • almond milk
  • Golden Renewal Protein powder
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 tsp almond butter
  • 3 ice cubes

I blitzed this all up and decided that this was the best way to have the shake. It's the way I proceeded to have it for the remaining days.

On Day 4 I woke up and although I was up early and hadn't had as long in bed as the previous couple of nights I was feeling really energized. After checking my smart watch I saw that I had a really good deep sleep and REM sleep. I'm not sure if it was related to the 7-Day Fresh Start or not, but I was scoring in the 90s for my sleep quality from night 3 through until the end of the 7 days (I'm usually in the 80s as I don't always clock enough REM sleep).

We were out for the day so I had a matcha in the morning and made a travel mug of Clean Tox tea to take - usually we will go through a drive-thru for coffee on this trip was and as that was a no-no on the plan, I was hoping that this would keep me from missing my coffee. We also blended up the Golden Renewal protein shake and popped it in a cooler box in the car.

The clean tox tea really did the trick and I didn't even miss my coffee stop! I drank my protein shake in the car with the most amazing views as we were up in a mountain range looking out for miles.

When I woke up on Day 5 I noticed that I was feeling really slim - I hadn't realized that I'd been bloated before starting this program, but I was certainly noticing how un-bloated I was from Day 5 onwards.

My Results from the 7-Day Fresh Start

I lost 700g which wasn't a lot compared to what some people have lost, but I had eaten out a couple of times and didn't really worry about eating as well as I could have so I was impressed. I was sleeping better and, as I said previously, it removed some of my bloating. I also had more energy.

My Takeaways from the 7-Day Fresh Start

I don't think that intermittent fasting is for me (I work a couple of jobs and one of them starts quite early so I think I need to eat breakfast beforehand), but I can see why people rave about it.

What I have been doing and will continue to do is stop eating by 7pm every night

Want to try it for yourself? grab your 7-day fresh start set right here!

A note: the Morning Matcha box contains 30 serves of the matcha (which also contains MCT oil), so even if you had two a day instead of the 1 I had you would have servings left.

I am enjoying them even though I've finished this program. I also think are even nicer with some almond milk as a latte and it's because of this product's popularity that you can now purchase it on it's own. Check out my shopfront and just search matcha.

Fantastic, Fabulous, Booties ~ A Product Review

Hopefully your Christmas was wonderful and Santa brought you all kinds of wonderful gifts!  We all know you have been good!

Now if that gift happens to be a most wanted puppy, even more wonderful.  What a lovely way to share some love with a new family member!

dog in stocking

With sharing the love, you will also want to share some really important healthy ways to look after your new best friend.

If you live in the north, as many of us do, winter is part of Christmas and with that there is snow as well.  But if you live in the South, there is hot pavement and  mud puddles!

So this product is for all of you, northerners and southerners as well.  All dogs and puppies deserve fabulous booties!

Most dogs love playing in the snow and it's wonderful to see them running through all that white stuff, digging their noses in and  yes, even turning some of that white stuff a little yellow.

So far everything is great in the north, but, then comes the salt that is poured all over the sidewalks and streets!  Yes, most humans love salted sidewalks and roadways, but our pooch friends are not so overjoyed.  Why?  Well, let's just say that the salt gets on their paws and between their toes.  The salt water dries out their paws and if not removed from their little feet, it will become a source of pain for them.

So what can you do?

Get that little new friend used to putting on his booties just like you do before heading out into the snow!

Snow boots or doggie boots/paw protectors, are great for many reasons!  In the winter it keeps their paws dry and salt free!  In the spring and summer, it keeps their feet dry in rainy weather.  Summertime heatwaves won't cook their feet on the hot pavement either.  Muddy puddles and muddy feet are a thing of the past.

Doggie Boots/Paw Protectors, come in several sizes for all types of dogs.  Most good brands have non-slip soles so that your dog will be able to find his traction on any surface.  Velcro closures will ensure a good fit and help to keep those booties on their feet until they are home again.

I have linked a page for you here and you can see that most of the booties are quite easy to put on and take off.  There are even more advanced "Suspender booties" for those dogs who manage to get out of almost everything.

Once you dog is trained to wear these booties, they will want to wear them.  Their paws will not suffer any ill effects of being in the salted areas and the comfort will be worth the time it takes to train your dog.

Now if you have gotten your dog as a puppy, it will  just become part of his training as you get to know each other.  Older dogs might take a little longer.  But you will be happy that part of your daily walk does not include washing your dog's feet afterwards.  With the booties, they just come off, like your shoes do.

Fido will need a special place on the boot mat for his new winter shoes. Paw protectors/booties are great gifts for the new family member and for you as well.

May you enjoy the new year with your newest family member and have lots of fun in the snow!

Weiman Cook Top Cleaning Cream Review

Last month, I reviewed The Best Cookware for a Glass top stove. Now, I'm reviewing Weiman cooktop cleaning cream for a must-have spotless stove top.

Weiman cook top Cleaning Cream

We have been using Weiman cooktop cream since we got a glass-top stove. After cooking a delicious but messy meal, you know the struggle of spills and greasy splatter. This product has definitely earned a spot in our kitchen, keeping our glass-top stove clean and shiny.

Weiman cooktop cream is designed specifically for glass and ceramic stovetops, making it effective at tackling the most common problem: burnt-on residue.

One of the biggest concerns of glass-top stoves is scratching. The formula is gentle enough to protect the surface while delivering a thorough clean and shine.

You can buy Weiman with cleaning pads or simply use paper towels to apply it. We prefer using the cleaning pads; they work better for us. It's easy to use, just apply the cream, then wipe with a paper towel.

Cooktop after cleaning

Here is our stove top after cleaning it with Weiman. Tip: One thing we have learned is to let your stove top cool before trying to wipe it clean. For a really tough, burnt-on spill that just won't clean up, I use a razor blade to carefully, gently scrape it off. Weiman Cook Top Cream leaves a glossy finish that makes your cooktop look new.

Best Gifts for Puppies Reviewed

Gifts for Puppies
We recently brought home a puppy and immediately started buying puppy appropriate gifts for the little fellow.

One might think immediately of puppy food and a dog bed when you first get a puppy.  Of course, we did bring home a puppy bed and food.  However, we immediately realized he needed teething toys.  We started with one that we knew would be a wonderful toy since our adult dogs have always loved them.  But, let me tell you, one is not enough!  He currently has 8 teething toys that he has in various locations.  The one he prefers apparently depends on his mood.

For training, we also needed Milk-Bone biscuits, Mini Pure Bits (liver) and Quaker Apple Cinnamon Rice Crisps.  Our vet recommended the rice crisps years ago because of their lower calories.  A lot of treats are required for training!

A fleece blanket also makes a great gift!  My mother purchased our little puppy a Christmas fleece blanket that he received immediately.  He loves that blanket!  Most often, he lays on it on our leather couch, but he can drag it down to the floor when desired to make a impromptu bed.

We already had a ramp, which the puppy will use as an adult to "walk" himself up into the back our our SUV.  It is extremely important to start that training early by placing the ramp against a couch and letting them naturally climb it to get onto a couch.  We discovered the hard way that an adult dog may be afraid to climb a ramp regardless of offered treats.

A doorway gate may not "feel" like a great gift idea.  However, I assure you, not only are you protecting your furniture and home decor, you are protecting the puppy from cords or falling items after he runs into an end table.  I'm sure you get the idea.  We can't watch them constantly, therefore, they should not run free through an entire home heedless of potential dangers.  Puppies are full of energy and running is exactly what they prefer to walking.

Believe it or not, I would also suggest Johnson's Baby Shampoo for a puppy's gift.  Again, that was also recommended by our vet for a puppy.

A few weeks home and these are the "gifts" for puppy that we have found essential.  With Christmas upon us, it seemed like the best time to recommend gifts for puppies (or dogs) if they happen to be on your gift list too.

All of the above mentioned gifts are featured below and linked to either a previous review or to a store for purchase.

Puppy Chew Toys Make Great Gifts

As I said, these toys will most likely become what you want to get first and continue to add to the collection over time.  You realize quickly that your furniture, bedding, beloved stuffed animals, and even your skin need to be protected from puppy chewing and teething.  The best way to prevent damage is to offer a chew toy that is made for that purpose.

35 years ago, our first puppy turned our kitchen chair legs into gnawing posts.  While it is funny to recall now when my husband refers to the puppy "toothpicks", it was definitely not funny when it happened.

Of course, you still must train yourself to say "no" since puppies, like any baby, will continue to test your patience and tolerance.  Having a desirable option is in everyone's best interest.

With human babies in mind, I bought a few teething toys that can go in the freezer to make a cold chew toy for our puppy.

We have always been familiar with the Kong products and know from experience that they are fabulous.  However, my cousin brought Watson (our puppy) a Outward Hound bone.  He loves that bone!  Therefore, I would highly recommend it too.

Treats for Puppies

We all like special treats for the holidaysPuppies may not recognize special days of the year, but we do and we like gifting our baby dogs with special treats for special occasions.  Milk-Bone brand recognizes our desire for special treats and they make fun shaped dog biscuits just for the holidays.  Plus, a Christmas fleece blanket always makes a puppy happy and we appreciate the added Christmas "decor" in our home.

Our adult dogs have always appreciated their annual fleece blankets from their granny.  We use them year round in the cars, on hardwood floors, or wherever that little bit of comfort for our puppy is needed.  After all, we don't mind a touch of Christmas spirit throughout the year.

More Gifts for Puppies

I mentioned the necessities like the gate, the ramp and the shampoo for puppies.  For Puppy parents who do not have these items, they would be greatly appreciated.  The parents, themselves, may not recognize their importance until they start using them, but time will prove out how much they are truly needed.
