Cavatelli is a traditional Italian pasta with a small rolled shape. You can find cavatelli at your local grocery store, but you can also make them at home.
This cavatelli maker has been in our family for years. My mother gave this to Fran and me shortly after we were married. We have been married for 54 years, and I don't know how long she had it before giving it to us. I guess this simple kitchen tool will outlive us all.We make our homemade cavatelli with three simple ingredients. You can find the recipe here on my blog: Homemade Cavatelli.
Here is a plate of our homemade cavatelli made fresh with our cavatelli maker. I remember my grandmother making these all by hand. She would shape every single one with a simple roll of her finger. The cavatelli maker makes this process much easier.
Here is a short video of our grandson Tyler cranking out the cavatelli.
We always make several batches at one time so we can freeze them for later. Check out our recipe above for ingredients and instructions for making these with the cavatelli maker.
The cavatelli maker is easy to clean and store. Just rinse it with warm water until the rollers and blade are clean.
Amazon has a nice selection of cavatelli makers.

Modern inventions sure have made pasta-making simpler. My hubby's grandmother used to made homemade noodles by hand and, since Bob liked her 'chicken & noodles' dish so much, she taught me how to make them. Well, at the time she taught me (very early marriage), I could not really cook, so buying packaged noodles were so simple. Grammie found out, and actually 'mailed' me a package of her homemade noodles (already prepared and dried out, ready to cook). She even sent cooking instructions! Wow. Your cavatelli maker, and similar pasta-making kitchen aids available today are nice and quick (with still giving you the homemade taste!). You are lucky to have a cavatelli maker passed down from your mom. Family traditions are the best! :)
