The Shroud of Turin ~ A Mystery ~ A Book Review

In these days of information overload, The Shroud of Turin, is still one of those mysteries that has the scientific world and the world as a whole still scratching it's collective head.

What is this "Shroud of Turin"?

Well, it is a length of linen cloth (18ft. long x 3 ft wide approximately) that has been at the center of a lot of debate.

It's a mystery that I have been fascinated with for over 40 years and I'm sure I'm not alone.

There has been a lot of controversy over this piece of cloth and nothing has been studied harder or more precisely in the history of "extraordinary" items.

Several different groups have studied this cloth, trying to figure out what it is, how it came to be and how it has survived (given its makeup) for this length of time.

I started on this quest to learn more about the Shroud of Turin and then dropped it for quite a few years.  Then just last week my sweetie started to watch YouTube videos( The Shroud of Turin: History’s Most Controversial Relic - YouTube)  on the Shroud.  That and one of our trips to Israel in 2018, reignited my interest.

While the Shroud of Turin may be seen as a "religious" object, or a Catholic object, I would disagree.  Yes, it has significance to any religion that believes in Jesus Christ, but it is also a historical snapshot of what a Roman crucifixion was like.

I will leave the debate about it's "miraculous" origins up to you, but if you want a real easy to read book on the subject, I would recommend,  "The Shroud of Turin" by Caleb Verdance.  It is only 157 pages including his Bibliography.

It is easy to read and has QR codes that will take you to other research materials cited in the book.

If you are of a curious mind, I would suggest that you start with the video and then move to the book.

As modern technology changes and becomes better, I'm sure that this artifact will be studied again and again.

I hope you enjoy the learning experience as much as I did.
