When it comes to protecting your home and family, few things are as essential as a dependable smoke detector. Kidde has been a trusted name in fire safety for decades, and continues to lead the way with smoke detectors that combine reliability, smart technology, and ease of use.
My sister-in-law recently moved to our area from South Carolina. After moving into her new home here in Western New York and getting settled, she asked me to install her smoke detectors. She had already purchased these Kidde smoke detectors. These are the same smoke detectors we have in our home.
Kidde has several options to choose from. The traditional battery-operated or hardwired model with battery backup, either option is easy to install.
She purchased the 10-year sealed battery smoke detectors. These have a long-lasting lithium battery that eliminates the need to change batteries every year.
Make sure you read the instructions; the installation is easy, but they also explain the best placement for smoke detectors in your home.
Smoke detectors are required by law in most places. Many local building codes and safety regulations require working smoke detectors in residential buildings.
We also installed one that was a combination smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector. Read my article here to find out why you need a carbon monoxide detector.

Hardwired smoke detectors were required by building code in our area when my house was built, so our builder installed one approximately center of the house. However, we added several battery operated smoke detectors. We wanted one outside of each of our children's bedrooms. Ever so often, we hear a voice talking in our house. It is "alarming" at first, but once we remember and realize it is the smoke detector notifying us to change the battery, we laugh, and of course change the battery. We are obviously firm believers in having smoke detectors throughout the house.
ReplyDeleteWe, too, use Kidde smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in our house. It’s a brand we can count on.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of hard-wired smoke detectors before (always had the battery kind that would beep at you when it was time to change the battery ~ LOL), until a few months ago when my apartment complex changed out all the old battery smoke detectors with these hard-wired kind. With a large number of apartments in the complex, I guess they figured these would cut down on the 2X a years battery replacement for every apartment. :) I just now looked closely at these new smoke detectors my apartment now has, and, guess what, they are by Kidde! So, your review is doubly-appreciated, letting me know how dependable this brand is.
ReplyDeleteI think we have these ones - we recently changed ours not knowing they have a shelf life of about 10 years - yikes. Ours are hard wired and battery - I'm sure these are the ones we use.
ReplyDeleteSam, thanks for the information. It's good to know that there is a ten year battery version too!
