We celebrate National Nut Day each year on October 22. This is NOT a story about squirrels, or about your nutty neighbor. It is a food holiday about a healthy and nutritious snack.
How Did This Holiday Begin?
National Nut Day was begun in 2015 by the UK-based Liberation Foods Company, a collective of small nut farmers around the world. The company started this holiday as a way to encourage a healthy eating lifestyle.

Many kinds of nuts have been proven beneficial. Almonds, pecans and walnuts are at the top of the list of healthiest nuts you can eat. Check out this link for the various benefits of almonds, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, peanuts, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, and pecans. It is nice to know that something that tastes so good, and comes in so many varieties, is also good FOR you.

Oh, no! My favorite nut is a peanut, which I now know is not even a nut. I guess that would make the pecan my favorite nut then, because of pecan pie.
ReplyDeleteHa! I love peanuts too, Mouse, even if they are not classified as nuts. Pecan pie is good too. Walnuts are probably my most favorite because they can be used in so many ways - like in cookies and (my very favorite) Waldorf Salad.
DeleteMy favorite is a pecan and then a walnut. Thanks for an interesting review
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Mary Beth. Thanks for visiting my 'Nut' review. :)
DeleteI love all kinds of nuts! Pistachios, pecans, walnuts, almonds, Brazil nuts... So sorry to learn that the latter are endangered.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my 'nutty' review of National Nut Day, Margaret. Glad you enjoy nuts too.
DeleteI've been actively eating nuts for their nutritional value these past six months - I eat a small handful of walnuts everyday (they have so many nutrients)
ReplyDeleteYes, nuts are very good for you - as well as tasting good; a nice combination. :)
DeleteI have been enjoying more nuts, both for flavor and nutrition. My favorite depends on the moment. Pistachios for a snack. Walnuts and grapes for a duo snack! And pecans when I make my plant based butterless pecan ice cream. I never thought of Macadamia nuts as rare though. I see them as a regular option, in cookies, at Subway.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoy so many different kinds of nuts, Cheryl. I agree with you regarding the macadamia nuts. I never thought of them as rare, but that was the term my research turned up. I do think they are more expensive then many other kinds of nuts, so maybe that's what earns them the rare tag. :)
DeleteI love Nuts of all kinds including the ones in my family. But eating Nuts has to be one of my favorite pastimes especially when watching some sporting events on the TV! Thanks for this rundown of all the edible kinds of nuts. Sad that my Brazil Nut is endangered though.
