After the monitor screen was hit, I
couldn't see anything except colored lines on the screen, which you can see in the image on the right. Restarting
the laptop did not restore the display.
The phrase "broken computer screen" brings to mind images of shattered or cracked glass, which was not the case with my screen. In fact, it would be more accurate to say the computer display was broken.
Therefore, the LCD monitor screen on my laptop needs to be replaced. Until that can be done, I purchased a separate monitor so I would be able to access my files and keep working. I set the Zenscreen Portable Monitor in front of the original screen to replicate normal working, writing and viewing directly in front of me.
When my laptop screen is replaced, I will continue to use my new portable monitor separately. It will be great to have two separate screens. Often, I am working on separate projects or viewing a movie while I work. The second monitor will make that much easier than using separate windows or tabs on the same screen. Until this accident, I had never considered a separate monitor, but I am certain I will love having it.

I will note that my laptop is an Asus laptop and I had no trouble simply plugging the monitor in. It worked perfectly! This Asus ZenScreen looks like it was the perfect solution while you waited for a replacement screen for your laptop. And having a second screen, I'm told, is an essential part of many work situations. Both my son and my daughter work from home and both use two screens with their laptops. Therefore, your broken 'display' may have turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Interesting review.

DeleteI’m so glad this monitor turned out to be the ideal interim solution for your malfunctioning laptop display! It’s great that this investment will continue to pay off even after you replace your laptop screen/display. My husband works with complex spreadsheets and needs two monitors so he can have whichever spreadsheet he is working on on the external monitor while his other work apps, including emails and instant messaging, are displayed on his laptop screen. That way he can easily switch back and forth without distracting pop-ups on his spreadsheet. I’m sure you will love having that ability, too!

Broken screens can happen anytime so I am keeping your review handy in case I need a replacement screen anytime! Once your original screen is fixed you will be able to have two screens. I had not previously thought about having two screens but now I think there will be so many benefits.

My screen is getting iffy, and I'm debating; wait a bit longer and get a new computer or get it fixed - but I love the idea of portable usb monitor - I had absolutely no idea that you could hook up a second monitor with just a USB - I need to get with the times - I love this, and thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that your screen had an accident. But I must admit, that I have used dual screens for many years and find them to be really helpful. It's great to look up something on one screen while writing on another. Back and forth is so much easier with two screens. Glad you found a solution to keep you working.
