Ghost in the Passenger Seat – Story Behind the Lyrics Review

Ghost in the Passenger Seat – Story Behind the Lyrics Review

A few weeks back, I wrote an emotional article about something I didn't expect to stumble into at all—Carl Jung. More specifically, his concept of individuation

What began as casual curiosity turned into a surprising journey of anger, tears, and reflection. That article, written on December 7th, explored how accidentally "tripping into" Jung's work cracked open feelings I didn't know were still waiting to be acknowledged.

Since writing that article, something shifted.

The intensity of those emotions softened—not because they disappeared, but because I moved forward with them rather than resisting them.

That forward movement led me to write several lyric videos, each touching on personal growth and inner awareness. The one I'm sharing today, Ghost in the Passenger Seat, comes from that next step forward.

Behind My Lyrics  To "Ghost In The Passenger Seat"

I wrote these lyrics on December 19th, 2025, and I wasn't planning on writing them at all.

I've been writing since 8 years old (1968), and most of the time words just fall into my head, fully formed, and I have to get them out.

The process takes hours—writing the lyrics, creating the artwork, and putting together the lyric video. Currently, I'm doing it all myself. So it's a huge production for me; however, it's rewarding.

Once I start, I feel a strong need to finish the project entirely, sometimes writing and working for eight to ten hours straight. Thank goodness for my Cubii—my under-desk exercise machine—so I can keep moving while writing.

Even so, I'm often emotionally spent the next day because projects like this pull a lot out of me. But the fun of creating and the need to deliver the message always overrides the drain.

Exploring the Shadow Self

This song explores another well-known Jungian concept: the shadow self. The parts of us shaped by past pain, fear, shame, or survival—the parts we'd rather ignore, bury, or pretend don't exist.

Jung believed we don't heal by rejecting these parts, but by acknowledging and integrating them. The shadow doesn't go away just because we refuse to look at it. It comes along for the ride whether we like it or not.

In Ghost in the Passenger Seat, the shadow self is personified as a ghost—sometimes called the "ghost self." She sits in the passenger seat of a car, traveling everywhere the woman goes. The car becomes a metaphor for life's journey, and the passenger seat becomes the space where unhealed parts demand attention.

The lyrics tell the story of realizing that healing doesn't mean banishing the ghost—it means recognizing her, listening, and eventually allowing her to move out of the front seat, to sit quietly in the back, happy that she's been acknowledged.

I intentionally chose light, bouncy music to carry a serious theme. I like contradictions like that.

When subjects become too heavy, hope can get lost in the weight of the message.

I feel that by pairing a meaningful topic with an upbeat, almost playful tone, the song becomes more approachable—an invitation rather than a lecture. Healing doesn't always have to sound sad to be real.

Final Thoughts: Healing, Creativity, and the Journey

The shadow self is a complex and timely subject. Carl Jung's work has found renewed attention as more people search for meaning, healing, and self-understanding beyond surface-level positivity.

This song is my way of engaging with that conversation—honestly, thoughtfully, but lightly. It's a reminder that even heavy truths can be approached with creativity, metaphors, and hope.

I hope you enjoyed the lyrics—and the lyric video—as much as I enjoyed bringing this story to life.

An Autumn Visit to Veterans Tribute Park

American Flag

Today is Thanksgiving Day in the USA and first of all I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving from the staff at Review This.  We thank each and every one of you for your support over the years.  Your support for Review This Blogs is what makes us successful.  Thank you!

Veterans Tribute Park

Last week I took a group that I mentor to take photographs at our local Veterans Tribute Park.  We had been there last May, and I wrote a review at that time.  I have listed a link to it at the end of this article.  We enjoyed the park so much that we decided we would like to go to it again in the autumn when all the fall colors would be out.  The week before we were to go, we had a hard freeze so many of the color was depleted and yet t
here were lots of beautiful scenes to photograph.  The day we went was a perfect day weatherwise and we enjoyed walking through the park and capturing the beauty of the season on our cameras.

Photos from our Visit

This photo is of some of the grasses that adorn the fall landscape.

In this photo I was demonstrating to the group the use of natural framing of a subject by looking through the grasses to capture the lake in the background.

Framed Photo of Lake

In this photo we zoomed in to capture the orange trees surrounding the lake.  You will note that many of the trees in the background had already lost their leaves, but it still gives a nice framing for the lake.

There was a bridge that went down toward the lake.  It provided a nice overlook to the lakes.  I showed everyone how when they turned around and showed the path going up to the lake it gave a leading line to the trees beyond.

Zooming in for a close-up photo of fall leaves makes a pretty photo.

Blessings for Thanksgiving~ From the Heart ~ A Reflection

As we are moving to the end of the year faster than a speeding train, my thoughts and reflections seem to have taken a turn inwards.

Thanksgiving is just a day away and there is so much to be thankful for!

Here are just a few things that we should all be thankful for:

  • Family!  Yes even when they drive you crazy, you know that they are the ones that you can count on when you need an ear to listen, hands to help, and a loving response when times are troubled.
  • Friends! Sometimes friends are the family that we wish for and they will do everything in their powers to help you too!
  • Home!  It's that special place where you hang up your hat and coat, shake off the troubles of the day and relax.
  • Work!!  Sometimes we might not be thankful for this, but. really. we do like to be productive and accomplish things.  It helps us put clothes on our backs and food in our stomachs.
  • Children, they are the reason we do so many things!  They make us laugh and cry, puff out our chests in pride and sometimes challenge us.
  • Food!  So many sweet and savory dishes to tickle our palates.
These are just a few things that we could focus on during our celebrations and I'm sure there are many many more!  I just focused on the immediate family, but we should also focus and our surroundings as well.

We are blessed to live in a country that gives us our freedom to do what our hearts desire.  We can travel, see things from around the world and experience many different customs and traditions.  We can speak our minds and dialogue with others even when we don't agree.  We can appreciate our differences and celebrate them!

We are all different and yet we are all part of the human family.  How wonderful is that?

This Thanksgiving, let's all make it our goal to appreciate the wonderful things we have in this life and celebrate each other in our similarities and our differences.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL

Adding to the Fun of Halloween

Halloween is such a fun holiday; it's one of not only treats and goodies, but lots of creativity. From costumes to decor, and more.

One of the way that I like to add to Halloween fun, is to dress up, at least somewhat, when I give out treats to the trick or treaters. Sometimes I have worn funky glasses that make my eyes look all weired. Sometimes I have dressed up as a pumpkin. The kids seem to enjoy my festive looks and sometimes weird looks.

This year, I'm changing up my looks. This year I shall be wearing a cute witches' hat.

Halloween hat

I had wanted to wear some bunny ears but couldn't find any of those. I looked through the costume section at Walmart for other head band options, but couldn't find any in adult sizes.

Then on my last trip to Walmart, I browsed the clearance isle and found a witch hat decoration. It was made to sit on a table. That would be perfect!

I wanted something colorful to accent the all black hat; like little colorful Christmas balls. I didn't find any of those, but did find a pretty purple strand of beads.

After I got home, I cut open the base of the hat and pulled out over half of the stuffing. Then I just pulled from other supplies that I had left over from previous projects, and began enhancing my witches' hat.

I had to also figure out a way to get it to stay in place on my head, and not readily fall to the ground. An old light blue shoe lace was the trick for that.

What do you think?

Do you dress up when giving out treats for Halloween?

Another thing that I have done to add to the fun of Halloween is to make coloring designs on postcards, that kids can color in. This one features my drawing of a cat face pumpkin.

Another thing that I usually do, weather permitting, is to play music outside and dance around, to help get in the Halloween spirit. The trick or treaters seem to enjoy this and have commented about my music and dancing. It's especially fun when The Monster Mash is playing.

If family and friends are coming by for a Halloween get together, a Halloween themed cornhole game set can add to the fun.

What are some ways that you add to the fun of Halloween?

Thanks for stopping by.

Cheddar Cheese and Herb Bread

There is something comforting about the aroma of freshly-baked bread in the kitchen. Now imagine the same scent, but with melted cheddar cheese and fresh herbs.

We love freshly-baked bread in the fall, and I like to try different ingredients. I found a recipe for this cheddar cheese bread and decided to make some additions to it with the herbs.

Cheddar Cheese and Herb Bread
Cheddar Cheese and Herb Bread Reviewed

This Cheddar Cheese and Herb Bread is baked to a golden brown, flavorful loaf that's perfect for soups, sandwiches, or just enjoyed with a pat of butter. I love it best lightly toasted with butter.

Cheddar Cheese and Herb Bread Recipe:

Ingredients:

2 cups of all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 cups shredded cheddar
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning or fresh herbs
1 cup milk
1 large egg
2 tablespoons butter

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, garlic powder, sugar, and Italian seasoning or fresh herbs.
  2. Stir in the shredded cheddar and set aside.
  3. In another bowl, mix together milk, egg, and butter.
  4. Combine the liquid ingredients with the dry ingredients and mix. I used my KitchenAid Stand Mixer for this on low speed for about 2 minutes.
  5. Pour the mixture into a 9-inch x 5-inch greased bread pan.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  7. Remove from the pan and cool on a wire rack.

When I make fresh bread, I can't wait to get that first warm slice with butter. So, I only waited about 5 minutes before I sliced into it.

This cheddar cheese and herb bread is one of those recipes that feels fancy, but this is so easy to make. This makes a perfect homemade gift for friends and family. I will certainly be making this one again.

EWORK Cordless Leaf Blower Reviewed

Long, very long overdue was an upgrade to the leaf blower. I was looking for a cordless, lightweight leaf blower that would easily handle small yard projects like blowing leaves, sticks, tree "stuff" off the deck. I believe the EWORK Leaf Blower exceeded my expectations and could actually handle Fall leaf blowing fairly easily!

ework leaf blower

Specifications

Model 21V 200 MPH Mini Leaf Blower by EWORK

Batteries Blower comes with one, but I chose the option with 2 batteries. The cost was approximately $20 more than the one battery option.

Weight I found the unit lightweight with the battery attached. Very easy to manuever.  2.6 pounds

Colors The leaf blower options are green, black and yellow.

Accessories: The blower comes with a few accessories: 3 different size blow tubes and one extender tube which attaches very easily. The blower is actually powerful enough as is to blow the deck without adding the extender nozzle.

Easy To Use Click in the battery to the unit and ready to go. The one feature I do not love, but is for safety is the button has to be constantly depressed to engage the blower.

Reviews I had not heard of this brand before and took a chance. The reviews were positive with just over 1,000.

Recommendation

I am happy I took a chance on a new brand as this mini leaf blower promises as delivers and more! I do like having a second battery ready to go. I also envision using the blower for light snowfalls for the porch and walkways.

Reviewing Six Key Gardening Tasks To Do In Autumn

 Golden Seedheads Autumn scene

Autumn is one of my favourite times of year. I love the still warm yet mellow sunshine, the quieter days and slowing down of nature, the still long days but earlier nights, the sound of the rain and the slight crispness in the air.

It all marks a transition time in the garden, there are still gorgeous vibrant autumn flowers and lots of green leaves and activity, yet we are very much leaving summer behind with every passing day. There are more seedheads and rosehips and berries in our gardens. In this time there are some key jobs we need to do now in the garden to clear, prepare and organise to get ready for winter and the spring to come.

Blue and yellow autumn flowers

1. Tidying Up The Garden(with caveats.)

I usually start my autumn tasks with taking stock of what I have and what did well and what did badly. I also clear out some of the old plant material and do some cutting back. In this clearing phase I am very mindful of nature and that we do need to leave lots of cover for insects and small creatures so they can live and survive the autumn and winter. So I tend to curate the tidying up and only do what is absolutely necessary.

I do clear out all the annuals from pots. They have grown, boomed, faded and set seed and completed their cycle. The plant itself can be discarded or put on the compost heap. I tend to tip out any loose compost onto the garden soil. Then I clean out all the pots.

With the Perennial flowers I prune them back for tidiness where needed, but leave as many seedheads and stalks for wildlife to feed on and hide in during the winter months. These can always be tidied up in the spring for a neater look.

Do be careful what you prune though, many plants and shrubs should not be pruned right now as any new growth or exposed branches may be susceptible to frost. Spring flowering shrubs should not be pruned now or you will be cutting off all the flowers.  If in doubt leave them now.

If I had a greenhouse I would now bring in tender plants, but instead I start getting out my fleece to cover these plants for the winter.

All my evergreens are pruned now so that they will maintain their shape throughout winter and as they are the backbone of the garden in winter its important they look nice.

It won't be very long before leaves start turning all their beautiful colours and then falling to the ground. I tend to leave these leaves in the borders where the worms will do their thing and take them in to the soil and above soil leaves will provide shelter for tiny insects.

However I do clear leaves from the paths where they could become soggy in the rain and slippery underfoot. I also clear them from any gravel and the garden lawn as they are not good for the grass where they can cause fungal disease and in gravel they just look messy as they decompose.

Flowers like forget me nots are way past their best now. Do not just cut them down though. They can be lifted and divided then replanted in new places around the garden to make a bigger better display next year. Lift the whole clump, divide it gently with your hands being careful to gather enough of the root system and replant about a foot apart in new locations.

2. Caring for Lawns and Grass

Spring and Autumn are key times for lawn care and renovation. In many ways now Autumn is a better time.

Our spring was so dry  that although i sowed new grass seed with the lack of rain it made watering a time consuming chore and then we had four heatwaves which scorched the grass and turned a large part of it brown. As we had a hosepipe ban we could not water it, but I knew that most grass recovers once it gets some rain.

So now in Autumn there is a chance to nurture the grass again and give it a better chance to recover.  I start with scarifying the soil, so raking it with a lawn rake, which gets rid of all the dead thatch.

Then I use a fork in the soil every few inches to aerate the soil. After that a lawn feed is a good idea and it sets the lawn up for a good season.

To read more about overseeding a lawn please read Reviewing Overseeding A Lawn With Grass Seed.

Autumn is also the time for a final cut of the lawn. We hardly mowed our lawn this year due to the hot sunny weather and heatwaves. However now it has had some rain and grown and greened up we can give it a light trim before winter. I prefer to use a manual lawnmower and review the drawbacks and benefits here

3. Planting Plans

Autumn/Fall is a good time to review our planting in the garden and I usually increase my stock and plant beautiful spring flowering bulbs such as daffodils, crocuses and hyacinths during September and October. If you grow vegetables it is time to sow over wintering onions and garlic which are a good crop and useful in the kitchen. Tulips should be planted a little later during October and November.

I love doing this as although we rapidly approach winter, it is an act of joy that soon after Spring will arrive.

We have enough established shrubs and roses now. However, if you are wanting to plant any shrubs, hedges, trees or roses, it is more economical to buy bare root varieties now and plant in Autumn so that they can establish well before the winter and then they will settle and start to grow well in the springtime.

It is also a good time to move established shrubs that need moving to a better place to give them time t establish and then grow on in Spring. Even if it is rainy do always settle them in with a good drink of water and if there are dry spells you may need to keep watering yourself for a while. Always water deeply to make sure it reaches the roots.

4. Mulching Borders

For borders it is a good idea to lay down a good mulch now to protect plants and nurture the soil. Mulch can be organic like bark or compost or inorganic like pebbles or slate compost to name a few options.

Just ensure you mulch a couple of inches deep and keep a few inches of space around the base of any shrub and trees stems or trunks. More Information On Reviewing The Benefits Of Garden Mulch

5.Pruning Shrubs, Hedges And Roses

At this time of year I prune my tea and shrub roses, this is not the big prune but rather just a light cutting back so that they do not get caught up in the wind and suffer root rock as they sway. Therefore prune about a third off the top with secateurs or loppers. However if you like the rose hips you will need to leave them or prune very lightly

White roses

For climbers I do prune off any long whippy stems I don't want in September. This is mainly to prevent them from flying around in the wind and becoming a hazard. A little later on I will be tying in the stems I want and recreating the framework for beautiful roses next year.

For pruners nearly every gardener has their favourites and it is very personal. You need to balance grip, weight, cutting power, ease of use and comfort overall. For me I like the Fiskars and the Wolf ranges.

Hedges that could not be cut before due to birds nesting are now perfectly fine to prune back and Autumn is a good time to do it so it stays tidy all winter.

6. Taking Care Of Wildlife In The Garden

Looking after or caretaking wildlife to me is a crucial part of gardening. Here in UK we are losing so much natural habitat that nature is increasingly reliant on our gardens to survive.

While August is a very quiet time in our garden for birds, come September and October they start coming back into the garden. It is a great idea to have a birdbath as water is more important than most of us realise.

Birds, insects and small mammals become more reliant on our gardens for food sources. This can be food we put out in bird feeders to the berries and seeds and roots in our gardens. In UK Hedgehogs require shelters such as log piles, leaf litter or bespoke hedgehog houses to live in during the colder months.

Insects and spiders need wild areas to shelter in and hunt from. So hollow stems of flowers, seed heads, leaf litter on soil it all helps them to live. So it hugely benefits these creatures to not be too tidy in our gardens.

Garden Tools We Need In Autumn

Some people have said to me that gardening ends in September, but for me there is such a lot to do in order to help wildlife, keep the garden looking good and healthy and safe for us.

Autumn/Fall is a lovely time to be outside, nice and cool, with often some mellow sunshine and lots of wildlife to watch and plants to find in our gardens to fascinate us.

Try These Delicious Vitamin C Effervescent Tablets That Dissolve in Water! So Good!

Try These Delicious Vitamin C Effervescent Tablets That Dissolve in Water! So Good!

What Are Redoxon Vitamin C Effervescent Tablets and Why I Take Them

Each Redoxon tablet has 1,000 mg of vitamin C, which is the equivalent of eating 10 oranges. I’m definitely not eating 10 oranges a day, so this is a simple way to give my immune system a boost. Especially with fall and winter colds going around, I feel better knowing I’m adding that extra protection. Sometimes I take it every day, sometimes every other day, but either way I feel like I’m covered.

Why I Like Effervescent Tablets

I don’t mind swallowing vitamins, but I know many people dislike taking them. That’s why this form works so well.

Simply drop the tablet in a glass of water, let it dissolve, and then drink. For me, it’s easy and actually enjoyable—it feels more like a drink than a vitamin.

The Taste is Amazing!

What hooked me most was the taste. It’s very orangey, refreshing, and bright. I usually dissolve mine in a regular cup of water (about 250 ml). I like the stronger, punchier flavor that way.

Some people in my family prefer to add it to a water bottle, which dilutes it more. Both ways work, but I love the bold orange flavor in just a cup.

The Fizz Factor

I also love the effervescence. I’m a big fan of carbonated water, and while I don’t know if this technically counts as carbonation, it definitely has a fizz to it. That fizz gives it an extra kick, making it even more enjoyable to drink.

Making It More Interesting

Every once in a while, I’ll play around with it. I’ll throw in some ice cubes or even add a squirt of lemon juice. It turns into a little drink I look forward to, instead of just “taking my vitamins.”

Other Effervescent Vitamin Choices Available

Redoxon also makes other effervescent vitamins, like multivitamins, so you can browse through different choices. For now, I’m sticking with just the vitamin C, since I already take other supplements. But if you’re curious, there are lots of options. Out of the brands I’ve tried, Redoxon—R-E-D-O-X-O-N—is definitely my favorite.

How I First Tried Redoxon Vitamin C Effervescent Tablets

I actually discovered Redoxon when we were overseas visiting family. They had some on hand, and I thought I might be catching a cold. I tried one tablet, and I was instantly impressed with both the taste and the fizz.

When we arrived back in Canada, I ordered two bottles from Amazon right away. Each one has 15 tablets, so with two, I have 30, which is plenty.

Final Thoughts

For me, Redoxon isn’t just about vitamin C. It’s about enjoying something tasty and fizzy while also doing something good for my health.

If you like orange flavor and want an easy way to get a considerable boost of vitamin C, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try.

Disclaimer

I’m not a doctor, and this post is just me sharing my own experience with Redoxon. Everyone’s health needs are different, so be sure to talk with your doctor before adding or changing vitamins in your routine.

Cat Treat Toys Review

cat treat toy
Cat treat photo by the author.

I have gotten my cats various treat toys over the years. The one before the current one, that is pictured above, was a plastic round ball, that had a hole in it where the treats could fall out of as the ball was rolled. The one that we had, had a hole size that could be adjusted to make it easier or harder for the treats to fall out of. Our cat did seem to enjoy it to an extent, but it did not seem to be a favorite toy. I did not find the particular cat ball treat dispenser that we had, on Amazon.

Last Christmas, I came across the ladybugs and leaves design cat treat toy. With this toy, the treats seemed to be more directly retrieved from the toy. It's been over eight months now, and it is still a hit with our cat. There was a little bit of a learning curve at the very beginning, but it did not take long for her to figure it out. The way to get treats from this toy was a lot more straight forward. It was and is still a winner; it has two paws up from our cat. She comes to get me when it's treat time, without me having to call her.

This last toy is a home made treat toy made from a toilet paper roll. The toilet paper roll is folded in half, with both ends meeting, and then cutting slits, stopping around a half inch or so from the ends. Unfold the toilet paper tube, then push the middle part of the tube out a bit and add some treats. Our cat was immediately intrigued with this, once I put the treats in it! This is a nice way to add some extra fun for your cat, in a quick and easy way.

cat treat toy

Why provide treat toys for your cat(s).

It offers some fun, play, and an intriguing way to play on their hunter instincts.

Another reason, is it is a way to help slow down a cat's eating habits. If they were used to eating fast, as in perhaps they came from an open room type shelter, they may have had to eat fast to make sure they got to the food when it was out. We had two cats where that was the case. Providing a mechanism that helped slow the cat's eating down, was a big help in getting their weight under control.

Which cat treat toy would I recommend?

My choice would be the ladybugs and leaves cat treat toy. My cat seems happier with this treat toy more so than she did with the dispensing ball toy. She looks forward to using it and I don't have to encourage her to use it.

My second recommendation, is to try the toilet paper roll option; it's a good way to see if you want to invest in a treat toy that is more long lasting. However, they are relatively easy to make and toilet paper rolls can be in easy supply.

Honey Butter ~ A Recipe For Joy in a Jar

Just to let you know, there is snow on my roof (grey hair) and I thought I knew a lot about many different things.  But just recently I learned something totally new to me and wondered why, oh why, it took me so long to find out about this.

What is "this"?  Well let's just say that I consider it to be a little bit of Joy in a Jar.

This bit of heavenly joy comes from Honey Butter!  Yes, you heard me right!  Honey Butter!

Have you ever had this treat in your life?  If not, you are missing out on something that I feel is out of this world.  Just thinking about the first time I put some of this on hubby's fresh baked bread makes my face break out in a big and I mean really big smile.

It's not for everyone, especially those who are busy watching all the carbs and keeping track of everything they eat.  But even if you fall into that category, you could let yourself "slip" just once and try this out!

honey butter

Honey Butter is so easy to make!  Once you have it made up, you can keep it in the refrigerator for a few weeks (but I'm guessing it won't last that long)!

Honey Butter Recipe

Start with unsalted butter softened to room temperature. 1 cup

Honey, clover, raw, wildflower - any one will work quite nicely 1/3cup

Confectioner's Sugar just makes it ultra-creamy and will keep the sweetness to an acceptable level. 3 Tablespoons

Flaky sea salt 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon

That is the whole ingredient list, pretty easy don't you think?

Start by creaming the butter and then add all the other ingredients creaming them into the butter mixture.  If you have softened the butter ahead of time, this whole operation will only take a few minutes.

But......and this is a BIG BUT, you don't have to stop there!  If you want to add a little more flavor you can add a teaspoon of cinnamon and you would have Cinnamon Honey Butter!

Another option is to add a little spice to your honey butter by adding just a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes.  Hot and Sweet!  What's not to like in that combination?

As I said earlier, this treat is something that is totally new to me and I've been around for quite a long time.   I don't know what took me so long to find out about this but I do call it my Joy in a Jar for good reason.

I hope that I have tickled your taste buds just a little so that you can join me in a great little indulgence that will put a smile on your face too!

This was my first jar of honey butter purchased at the St. Jacob's Market in Waterloo Ontario.  And now that I know how easy it is to make, you can be sure that I will make my own from now on!

Reviewing My Success with Wooden Knitting Needles

I made a recent purchase that I'm thrilled about. I purchased a set of wooden, circular knitting needles and I couldn't be more thrilled. There are many different brands of this style of needles available and I chose the Knit Picks brand based on reviews from others. I also liked the variety of colors available. I know that it sounds unbelievable but these wooden needles have allowed me to knit successfully after a lifetime of failed attempts to learn this skill even at a beginning level.

My first successful knitting project!

I have crocheted for decades. I learned how to crochet as a child. I was also taught how to knit at that time. While I love to crochet, I personally think knit stitches are gorgeous, that knitted items are prettier, and I always dreamt of being able to knit. However, I have tried multiple times throughout my life to learn this skill and always gave up very quickly. My left hand would not communicate with my right, the loops of yarn would fall off during the stitch, and sometimes part of an entire project would slide right off the needles. If this sounds like you, I hope you continue reading.

I have finally learned to knit! I have completed several swatches (small sections of a project to test size and to practice a stitch) and I am currently knitting a scarf.  It is hard to believe that I have finally been able to successful knit.  The secret for me seems to be circular, wooden knitting needles.

A friend at work was knitting and listening to my complaints of never having been able to learn to knit, despite all of my attempts over years. She asked what type of needles I had used. I had always used straight, aluminum knitting needles. She suggested that I try wooden needles. Her opinion is that they are not as smooth as aluminum needles and she believed that the stitches don't fall off as easily when using wooden knitting needles.

I ordered the Knit Picks wooden, circular knitting needle set that night. And with her reminders of how to cast on and do the stocking stitch, I was knitting the very day after they were delivered.

With crochet hooks, I prefer aluminum hooks by far. I had noticed the "drag" or "friction" that occurs when I have used plastic, acrylic, or wooden crochet hooks. I prefer to fly along when crocheting with a easy-slide metal hook. I had never imagined that the "friction" with wooden knitting needles may prevent the loops from slipping from the needle, and may be the solution for me.  Like magic, I have suddenly learned how to knit with these wooden knitting needles.

I have also found that the circular needles, with the attached cables, help me to manage my project and keep it from slipping from the needles. I highly recommend the Knit Picks Options Wooden Interchangeable Knitting Needle Set that I purchased. But there are many similar sets to choose from; a variety of sizes, accessories, and cases.  If knitting has eluded you due to frequent dropped stitches, and difficulty holding onto the needles, wooden needles may be the solution for you too.
