We love making burgers on our charcoal grill. I have never cared for a thick burger; I try to press my burger to make it thinner. My daughter and grandsons got me this Sasquash Burger Press, and now it is so much easier to make burgers the way I like them.
Smash burgers have taken over diners, food trucks, and backyard grills. Who knew that smash burgers would become so popular? I just like my burgers thin.
Fran picked up some burgers at our local grocery store, and we had the family over for some smash burgers.
I started by firing up the charcoal in my Weber charcoal chimney. Read my post on how easy it is to use a Charcoal Chimney Starter.
I placed my Lodge Cast Iron Griddle on the grill and pressed the burgers with the burger press. After flipping them once, I placed the burgers on the grill grates and finished them over the hot charcoal. The results were amazing, crispy edges, juicy inside, and great taste.
You can also make smash burgers on any griddle, cast-iron skillet, or any skillet on your stovetop.
I love my Sasquash Burger Press; it is made in the USA in Nashville, TN, and you can find it on Amazon.

I do love home cooked hamburgers! It is so much easier to get them cooked to individual preference when grilling them yourself. btw, I love smash burgers! In my case, I think I like them best because the burgers get done all the way through (probably because they are thinner). I've never tried a smash burger press. It would be so much easier than pressing them flatter by hand or smashing them with the spatula. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSmash burgers are the only way I like my grilled (or fried) burgers, although I didn't know there was a name for this until your article. How interesting that there is a easy way to get smash burgers flat with this smash burger meat press.
ReplyDeleteMy dad had a cast iron press from many years ago. He used it when making hamburgers for the grill on all our camping trips. Years later, he gave it to me and I gave it many more years of use. A very handy cooking tool indeed.
Another use for this meat press is for putting pressure on a craft item you have glued (such as magnets on a creation) to hold it together while the glue is setting. :) Bet you didn't know that. I use wax paper between the item and the press! Works great! :)
Although I’ve never tried a smash burger, I can see it’s time for me to try one! I prefer my burgers done medium-well, and it seems like that would be a natural outcome of making them thin.Your smash burger press seems like a fabulous gift for an smash burger maker!
ReplyDeleteSam, that's a very handy item! Now there's a good Father's Day idea! I like thinner burgers too - stacking a couple of thin burgers together when you want a thicker burger gives you the best of both worlds!
