Lawn, leaf, trash bags have become quite pricey for items that are taken by the trash contractor. Which bag is the strongest? Does less mean more with price? I've used three brands of lawn and leaf bags this year and have noticed the differences in quality and price.

Strength
I found the Hefty to be the stronger bag overall. The seams were stronger for the Hefty than the Amazon whether the bags are used for trash or outside materials. The 'feel' of the Hefty was also stronger and felt thicker than the Amazon bag.
Recommendation
The Amazon bags were fine for light to medium weight leaves or branches. If you have branches being broken down or put as cut in the bags than the Hefty is superior to prevent seams from splitting or branches poking through sides of the bag. I have also purchased the Ace Hardware brand of bags which I found similar to the Hefty in price and strength.
As always double check with your municipality as to the restrictions for disposal of leaves, plants, branches and trash.
We always use the Hefty contractor trash bags. I've never wanted the mess created on the curb if one gets broken open, but I do resent the price. It seems like a lot for trash bags.
ReplyDeleteThe last time I had a yard with trees, resulting in leaf raking and disposal of same was in the Davenport, Iowa area. There we were required to use specific heavy paper bags for leaves; sold by ACE Hardware and most area grocery stores. These were mainly Compost It bags and required a sticker to allow the city to pick them up at the curb free of charge. Without the stickers, you had to pay for pick up.
ReplyDeleteToday I have downsized to apartment living, so raking Fall leaves is no longer a problem for me... LOL. But, if I were still in need of them, I would probably use the Hefty ones. Thanks for your product comparison, Tracey.
I’m glad we have someone to take care of our leaves. We have many large trees and Thea mount of leaves are too much for me. Our lawn guy has an attachment that chops up leaves and leaves them on ground. Very efficient. Good review of bags
ReplyDeleteThanks for this helpful comparison! I appreciate your insights and recommendations.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice seeing the comparisons. We had recently purchased leaf bags, and then found out they didn't come with ties on them. Next time for sure, we'll choose the ones that have ties.
ReplyDeleteThese are good. I've been using the paper ones, which reminds me, I need more!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that I don't need to do this anymore, but will let my friends know that there is a difference in both price and quality of bag! Thanks Tracey for the great comparison!
