Pineapple Day (also International Pineapple Day) is celebrated each year on June 27.
Pineapples are a tropical fruit native to the America’s. It is a lush, prickly, green leafed ground fruit that is a delicious addition to just about any meal. Pineapples do not grow on trees, as many people assume. They are actually herbaceous perennials, meaning they are leafy, not woody, plants that grow for more than two years.

Or bake it into an American favorite dessert, the Pineapple Upside Down Cake ~ rich and delicious made with slices of pineapple laid on the bottom of a pan along with a sugary mixture, then the cake batter poured on top. When baked and turned out of the pan, the bottom becomes a delicious topping.
You can also enjoy a delicious drink with either plain pineapple juice, or in a rum drink called Piña colada.

Yum. Pineapple is so delicious, no recipe required! Plus, on a hot day like today, it would be very refreshing! Great that there is a whole day devoted to it.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely delicious and refreshing, Brenda, especially in a drink like Hawaiian Punch. Thanks for visiting.
DeleteI do love pineapple! However, I had no idea there was a Pineapple Day. There really should be a month to celebrate pineapple when you consider all of the wonderful meals & desserts that include pineapple. The pineapple upside down cake is one of my own personal favorites. I also like to eat just plain pineapple with nothing else on it. Delicious! I really like all of the pineapple crafts, but I admit, they make me hungry for the fruit.
ReplyDeletePineapple is such a versatile fruit, both plain, in desserts, and as a drink. Thanks for stopping by, Mouse. I am going to have to try your chocolate covered pineapple sometime. :)
DeleteOh yes bring on the pineapples, love the flavor and texture of this fruit. It's sad that it is not grown in Hawaii anymore (other than for local use). It's all done in the Phillippines and Thailand now. But I still buy it and enjoy it all summer long.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that Hawaii no longer exports pineapple. Pineapples and Hawaii always seem to go together. :)
DeleteNothing better than a fresh pineapple. Thanks for some interesting facts.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it, Mary Beth. Thanks for visiting.
DeleteFresh pineapple is one of the foods I've really missed since I adopted a very low carb way of eating. I've always loved seeing it used as a symbol of hospitality. I had no idea, however, that there was an official holiday in its honor! Thanks for the fun tips for celebrating it.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe that a fruit like pineapple doesn't fit into a low carb diet, Margaret, but glad you enjoyed learning about ways to celebrate Pineapple Day.
DeleteLol at Pineapple day; so cute. Really love the coasters and pillows you featured as well. Who knew there was a day dedicated to pineapples? not me, until I read your article.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed learning about Pineapple Day, Barbara.
DeleteLove the pineapple recipes - perfect! We just received a fresh pineapple as part of a gift basket -:)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your fresh pineapple, Tracey. :) What a treat.
DeleteI really didn't know much about how pineapples are grown. Did not realize it was a two-year process. Wonder why pineapples came to be associated with hospitality. Always interesting to stop by your reviews. As you can see, you gave me much food for thought.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know how pineapples were grown either, Diana. I think I assumed, like a lot of people, that they grew on trees like coconuts do.
DeleteWell, for sure I never knew that there was a pineapple day. Also I didn't know that they take two years to grow. Thanks Pat!
ReplyDeleteThe two years it takes to grow a pineapple matches the length of time it took for me to see and respond to your nice comment, Sam. LOL.
