People love to know what kind of "Holidays" or "Special Events Days", are
out there because there are just so many! If you want to be in the
KNOW, sign up for
Days of the Year, you will find out that there are holidays and days of remembrance for
just about everything and anything!
Today June 14th is Flag Day and I must admit that it comes just at
the right time. In a couple of weeks the two largest countries
on the North American continent will be celebrating holidays where their own
country's flag plays an important role. But don't let that stop you
from showing your Flag pride today! Show us where you are now and
where you have come from! There are flags for every country available,
just remember if you are flying more than one flag, your new home's flag is
on top! For Americans it's the stars and stripes and for Canadians
it's that lovely maple leaf!
Now if you live in either Canada or the USA, you will know that
Canada Day on July 1st and Independence Day on July 4th are 2
very important holidays and both our countries celebrate them
with lots of festivities, pride and the waving of our flags.
Most important for us all is the displaying and flying of our flags,
signalling our pride in our homeland!
It is a good two weeks before these great holidays and a wonderful
time for us to look at our flags and make sure that they are in
proper condition
for the trooping of the colors.
There is nothing sadder than seeing a flag that is torn, ragged or tattered
from use being flown on such an important holiday. So might I suggest
that today is a good day, no, it's a great day to take down your flag
temporarily and check it over for wear and tear.
If your flag is in
any other shape than perfect, it's time to get a new flag!
Being Patriotic means more than just flying a flag. It means that you
will not fly a flag that is tattered and torn or worn out. Doing
that, (for me anyways) is a sign of disrespect for the country that I
love.
A beautiful pristine flag is what I will be flying so that everyone will
know that I love my country and am proud to fly it's flag. A perfect
flag that sets a
smile on my face and gratitude in my heart.
While this particular flag is not the least expensive one, it is
made in the USA and it has the highest customer satisfaction rating.
That says a lot to me, but you make up your own mind. Just make sure
that you have a beautiful flag to fly high!
For Canadians who might be reading this review, you are NOT left
out! July 1st is coming quickly and that beautiful red and white
flag needs to be as spotless and fresh looking as any flag can be.
So now there is no excuse for you to be flying a flag that would rather
not be seen.
Be wonderful, be patriotic and be proud! We do live in two of the
greatest countries in the world and we have every reason to be proud!
Happy Flag Day and I know now that you will be ready for the next two
big holidays as well!

Crossword Puzzle Day is held each year on December 21. A
journalist (Arthur Wynne) invented this fun word game we all enjoy today. His
first crossword puzzle was published in the New York World newspaper on
December 21, 1913. Today this challenging word game is enjoyed by millions
around the world.
Crossword Puzzle Facts
The crossword puzzle is the most popular of all the word
games.
The objective of the game is to fill the white spaces of a grid with the
words for the given clues. Black spaces separate individual words.
The levels of these puzzles range from simple puzzles for kids to
challenging puzzles for adults.
Reasons to do Crossword Puzzles
In addition to being fun, crossword puzzles also provide additional
benefits:
They sharpen the brain for problem-solving.
They may help delay the effects of dementia, so exercise your brain with
a crossword puzzle.
They can increase vocabulary.
If you are bi-lingual or learning a new language, consider completing a
crossword puzzle in your second language.
They can even relieve the mind from the day's stresses.
Challenge yourself to complete a puzzle a day for fun, entertainment and
for any of the reasons above.
My brother always begins his day with a coffee in one hand and a newspaper
with a crossword puzzle to solve! Where others have given up the daily
newspaper delivered to their door (in favor of quick news online and on TV),
Ken loves his newspaper for the daily crossword puzzle. Many turn
first to the 'funnies' for their morning entertainment via a newspaper; Ken
goes straight to the crossword puzzle. He often does the daily puzzle with
his wife. A fun couple activity.
Crossword Puzzle Day Summary
So, if you have not been in the habit of doing crossword puzzles, consider
making it a daily habit for any of the number of reasons I have stated in
this article, or simply for the fun of it!
If you do not subscribe to a daily newspaper, which always has a crossword
puzzle, a daily crossword calendar can give you one for every day.
A Daily Desktop calendar which features daily crossword puzzles
designed to challenge and entertain. The pages include answers on the
reverse side and are mounted on a recyclable stand for easy display.
Numerous crossword puzzle books are published regularly and available in
many stores. Crossword puzzles can also be found online and on apps for your

An unofficial holiday celebrated annually on October 26th.
The pumpkin is one of the main symbols of Halloween (in the U.S.) and is a central component of many fall festivals, Oktoberfests and similar celebrations. It is also delicious when served as food in a variety of ways. So it really shouldn't be a surprise that this orange squash has its own holiday.
Pumpkin Facts and Trivia
The name of this squash comes from the Greek word Pepõn – a word that means “Large Melon.”
Pumpkins are thought to have originated in North America, as seeds were found in Mexico dating back about 9,000 years.
Pumpkins and other forms of squash were an important food staple to the Native Americans.
Jack-o'-lanterns carved from pumpkins are a yearly Halloween tradition brought to the United States by Irish Immigrants. Read all about the origin of the Jack-O-Lantern here.
Pumpkin Dishes
There are many ways to cook and enjoy this squash called a Pumpkin:
Angela of Colorado hand-crochets this beautiful pumpkin in an earthy peach and creamy white stripes. It is stuffed with poly-fil, and features a birchwood stem and two faux fall leaves are secured to the pumpkin center with a dab of hot glue.
This pumpkin measures between 3” tall (4” with stem) and 15"-16” around which is approximately 4” wide. It is featured in her Etsy Shop 209 Divine, along with a variety of other holiday items.
The Pumpkin Patch
So get ready for National Pumpkin Day by visiting a pumpkin patch near you for a selection of pumpkins to cook, decorate your home for the Fall Season or carve into Jack-O-Lanterns for Halloween.
Tyler in the Pumpkin Patch
My favorite photo of a pumpkin patch was taken by my son of my grandson Tyler as a toddler on his first-ever visit to a Pumpkin Patch.

This is the perfect holiday to top off a summer vacation. It is held each year on August 30, so enjoy an end-of-summer vacation by taking a camping trip or having a backyard bonfire (perhaps around your fire pit or outdoor fireplace) and toast marshmallows.
The marshmallow is a type of confectionery made from sugar, water, and gelatin (whipped to a solid, but soft, consistency) then coated with corn starch. It is used as a filling in baking. It is also molded into shapes. You can buy marshmallows by the bag or make your own with this recipe here on the Food Network.
Marshmallow Treat
The most popular way to eat a marshmallow is in a S'mores! Nothing better than a night around a campfire, singing songs, enjoying the outdoors, and topping it off with this sweet treat.
S'mores Recipe:

Easter 2020, will probably be remembered by many as the Easter that wasn't. Let me explain, Easter still happened, but not in the way that many of us Born Christians would recognize. So we have had to find some creative ways to celebrate the Greatest Holy Day of the Christian Calendar.
To that end, my husband and I have been searching for ways in order to make Easter come alive again! We don't have any problem with following services on You Tube, or Facebook, but Easter calls us (personally) to dig a little deeper into our faith.
I am a Christian and not at all ashamed or embarrassed to admit it! I'm sure I'm not alone. The thing that always surprises me is that after Easter is over, many Christians think Easter is a done deal. One day, Easter Sunday and then everything goes back to "normal". (Well 2020's normal will be different than most.)
Many people don't understand that Easter Sunday is just the beginning of the Easter season. It does NOT END until 50 days later at the Feast of the Pentacost!
That gives Christians a whole 50 days to deepen their faith and strengthen their belief system.
The trouble is that you can only read the scriptures for so long and then hopefully have a good discussion on what was read. Our God speaks to each of us through these scriptures and each of us will take away lessons that are meant just for us. Each will take away a lesson that speaks to them personally, and it may not be the same message that you get! The Bible is alive and speaks to each of us in a way that we will understand in our hearts.
Being in house arrest has given us some time to look for other ways to celebrate our faith and grow at the same time.
We are so lucky that we can search out lots of different ways to celebrate our Christian Holidays. You Tube, Facebook and the Internet offer us unlimited ways to enhance our faith journey. Alan and I were blessed to spend 3 months in the Holy Land in 2018. We were there from the middle of January to the Middle of April, which just happened to be Easter of that year. What an experience that was and it still resounds with us today. If you would like to see where we lived and worked during that time here's a You Tube video about the region and why it was so important to Christians all over the world. https://youtu.be/Jcfkn9zivis
After having spent that time in Magdala, we came back home really driven to look into our faith, deeper, so that we are well informed Christians.
Now, during this time in our lives, that has us more upside down, than right side up, we are looking again for ways in which to make our faith "come alive". To that end, both of us have been trying to figure out who the person of Jesus was and who His followers were too. We have had many lively discussions on this aspect of our faith and really haven't come to any conclusions. What we see in the Scriptures can look pretty cold and too Godly or shall we say Jesus sometimes come off as unreachable. But that is not the Jesus we want to believe in, we want a Jesus that is just like us, happy, sad, funny, serious and a whole lot more....He is the Jesus we could relate to!
Thank goodness that I found a series that really delves into the "humanity" of Christ! This series has 8 episodes and each one of them is really so well done. The series holds true to the Biblical Christ, but also opens up the Humanity of him who is known as the Messiah.
I would like to share with you a link to get to this series and I'm sure that you will be moved just as I was. This series is not available on DVD or any other media other than at the APP store. I have a link for you right here. It is called The Chosen. This is an 8 part series each one is about an hour long and focuses on the beginning of Jesus' life and ministry. While following Biblical texts, there is a lot of interpretation allowed in this series.
Not only are we treated to a "human" Jesus, we are also treated to the characters who become his Apostles and Disciples. His mother and other relatives also play a role in this series. I found it to be very interesting and profoundly moving.
Please come back and tell me what you thought! I know for myself personally, this series was a valuable tool in more ways than one. It brought so many characters to life that I had not connected with through just reading the Scriptures. My faith is alive and new ways of understanding that faith are always welcomed. You can watch the official trailer for The Chosen right here!
**Please note: at the end of every episode there is a bit of "advertising", but you can skip that and move to the next episode easily. If you are touched by this series you can PAY IF FORWARD. But please don't feel that you must do this. I want you to enjoy this series as much as I have and that is my sole purpose in sharing this with you. I make no commissions or any other reward for sharing this with you. Happy Easter for the next 50 days at least.....
