While We Were Watching tells the story of a group of women discovering not just Downton Abbey but friendship, too. Written by Wendy Wax, it shares their modern day struggles and how they support each other through the ups and the downs that life has thrown at them.
Set in The Alexander, a historic Atlanta apartment building that sounds absolutely lovely, this story features three main female characters:
Samantha Davis, a wealthy woman who married for money for herself and her younger siblings.
Claire Walker, a struggling author now also struggling to be happy on her own as an empty nester in a new environment.
Brooke MacKenzie, a woman married to an unfaithful husband and a decidedly un-nice husband.

The story unfolds with both drama and humour. You will find yourself cheering the ladies on. The story will quickly draw you in and, unfortunately, be over far too soon.

I loved Downton Abbey! It really was a series you could sit and watch with anyone and not have to worry about being embarrassed by anything on the screen. It was a series my daughter and I shared. Even though we were rarely in the same house at the time, we watched separately and discussed the characters and plot as if it was all real. It is indeed the kind of show that will bond people together so I can definitely understand the premise of this book. It sounds like a great book! I smiled when you said "be over far too soon." That was also true for the Downton Abbey series. As for George Clooney being the butler, I guess I can't know for sure without reading the book, but I don't think I could actually see him in the role of a butler.

ReplyDeleteI was late in finding Downton Abbey, so can't say that I'm truly bitten by the story, but the episodes I saw were enjoyable for sure. I think I know several women who would enjoy this book...thanks for your wonderful review.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it's because we can't always get PBS on our TV that I never got into the Downton Abbey craze. I love the book idea, though. It definitely sounds like a winner!
