A photographic reminder of who we are and where we come from, along with a profound message, is a simple way to teach and lead.
Even if our children seem uninterested in their family history, it's only because it seems that way.
Over time, as they grow older, they become eager to learn about their backgrounds. Simply putting up one or more photo collages throughout the home will remind them daily that family is everything.
The world isn't the same place it used to be, and teaching our children about history, family, and personal connections is also much harder.
Yes, everyone in the family probably has hundreds of photos on their electronic devices, but more is needed. It's imperative that we make an effort to display photos throughout the home to honor the family.
Also, digital photo frames are fine; they are very convenient and can look lovely in any room. However, a traditional photo collage is a better teacher, especially with beautiful words on a family quote photo frame.
As families grow and technology changes, a photo frame with a picture and a few profound quotes is often the one constant. Let's think about how many photos we've lost over the years online, and that alone should encourage us to take the time to honor the family 'the old-fashioned way': put it in a frame and have it for a lifetime.

I agree that the 'old fashioned way' of honoring (and remembering) family is important, Barbara. Every home should have a group of family collages and these quote frames sound like a delightful way to do that. In my home, many of my walls are decorated with either family photos or family artwork from my daughter and son-in-law (both artists). In fact, I was just getting ready to hang a row of photos of the grandchildren down a hallway at my place. :)
ReplyDeleteI was just on the phone with my friend and we were talking about this very thing of putting up our own drawings and art - she had sketched a photo of her cat that is passed on now, and she's going to frame it and put it up on the wall - wonderful that you've implemented this - a project of mine is to get more of these collage frames and get them on my walls as well
DeleteAfter our house fire, our (grown) children reached out to family members who sent lots of old family photos to replace at least a fraction of what was lost. They put some in albums, others in frames and, of course, I've added more recent family photos since then including a huge collage frame. What a wonderful lesson here, so very important!
ReplyDeleteSusan, how awful about the house fire, that had to be beyond scary, and too lose photos and precious memories is really the worst part of it all - so glad your family replaced some of it for you, but given the wonderful family you have, doesn't surprise me. <3

DeleteWhat pretty frames Barbara! I agree with you, we should have family photos prominently displaced and I especially love the collages. I have a wall in our home dedicated to the family vacations. A collage for each vacation, except Disney World. I do believe it got 3 collages, but they all serve as a remember of fun family times together. I had a guest once that commented that you could watch our children grow up on that wall. I had never thought like that before, but it is very true.

DeleteBeautiful frames....beautiful quotes! I have so many family photos in frames both old and new that I keep many in a drawer and rotate those I have sitting out every few months. It is always great to see the different photos when i change the walls.
ReplyDeleterotating them is a great idea - I'm deciding on a new project I'm going to be taking on; A collage frame per individual (we have so many kids!) that this should work for us - I've been thinking about this for a while now too
DeleteI have thousands of photos saved digitally. And each time I lose them, due to whatever technological glitch at the time, I swear I'm going to return to printing and framing photos. I think your idea of the family quote frames is a wonderful idea.
