Synopsis

Raised in the wilderness, Vida knows the forest well.

She was brought to the forested mountains by her great-uncle after becoming orphaned at the age of five. As a result, she has developed a special affinity for nature and for the animals who call it home. Her life has been filled with hard experiences and loss, but shaped by love and by the prophecies of a fortune teller.

All Vida ever wanted was to live her life peacefully in her simple home. She would have willingly shared it with the love of her life, local hero Jose Nochelobo, except he dies in what, at first, appears to be a tragic accident.

Eventually, Vida learns that nearby Kettleton County has powerful men who are determined to proceed with a plan that will only benefit them financially, and Jose was standing in the way.

Vida is determined to discover the truth, but now these men of power want her to disappear forever.

As these men begin to come for her, one by one, prepared to see their plans through, Vida prepares for them.

Summary

Vida has goodness and hope in her favor and the help of her knowledge of the forest and its animals. The wolves, especially, have become her friends and will play a role in her survival. Her determination will help her prepare to defeat evil brought to the area by powerful and greedy men and restore the natural order of life in her world.

Another spellbinding thriller by Dean Koontz!

  2. As you know, my husband reads all of the Dean Koontz books. He read this one a few weeks ago (actually may have been months ago. I have lost track) Anyway, he said it was one I would probably like because of how descriptive and detailed it is. Plus, he commented on how it has current day interests laced throughout it.

  4. Even though I’m not usually a fan of thrillers, this one sounds like a story I would really enjoy. Vida’s intimate knowledge of the forest and close relationships with its inhabitants must surely help her prepare successfully to defeat the vicious “bad guys.” Thanks for the recommendation!

  5. Sounds like a story I would enjoy - when the good-guys-gals win, I'm all in for those movies or books. Her knowledge of the land guiding her to defeating the greedy characters is an appealing aspect to this book!

  6. I think with the depth of storyline and Vida's affinity with nature, the forest and wolves to help her defeat the evil elements I would enjoy this book. Thank you for your review and recommendation.
