Games Day is held each year on December 20th. It began in 1975 by the Games Workshop of Birmingham, England in the UK. If you are not in England, you can still get involved by playing some games wherever you live. It's a day that brings us all together.
History of Games Day
Games Day was created by Games Workshop, a British game production and retail company. The company started out producing more traditional games such as backgammon and later moved on to fantasy universe games, such as Warhammer (my cousin's favorite game!). Since 1975, this day of carefree fun has become extremely popular in England and then in the United States.

Family and friends can enjoy this Games Day in hundreds of ways. There are so many games available from the traditional ones of Chess, checkers, dominoes and backgammon to the modern day ones, which naturally include video games. Just ask any teenager!

Summary

My favorite games are most any card game but especially cribbage and I too love scrabble.

ReplyDeleteAh - enjoy playing a board game this weekend, Margaret. My son & I will be playing our favorite card game today before dinnertime - a favorite Saturday pastime. Somehow I never got around to playing backgammon, but know many people who enjoy it. Games are fun Everyday! :)
DeleteOh my favorites, Uno, cribbage, crazy 8's (with the grands), monopoly and I still love clue. I think I will have to get out the cribbage board tonight and some wine! That should make Game Day perfect! Have a great weekend everyone!

DeleteGames are such a wonderful way to enjoy the company of friends and family! I know we play board games during the holidays so we are sharing time with each other, away from the television or issues like politics that we don't agree on. We all want to have pleasant memories of a good time together and board games offer that diversion. We have several chess players in our family, but the group normally opts for a card game (or Yahtzee) that allows a larger number of players.
ReplyDeletePlaying games with a diverse group of relatives who normally have different opinions is definitely the perfect diversion, Mouse, as the focus of all is on the game itself and the fun you're having. It's the perfect way to occupy everyone at the same time in a 'fun-for-the-family' way. :)

DeleteHubby and I were just saying the other day how we would like to play more board games. We enjoy Scrabble and Monopoly and would like to get better at Chess! We also like playing drafts. We hardly ever play board games in the summer but when its dark early in winter it is such a fun thing to do :)
