SnapStone Floating Tile |
Seven years ago I bought a new home that was about 70 percent complete. Part of the 30 percent that remained to be finished included flooring in two
bedrooms, the upstairs loft, a half bath, pantry, laundry room, and
stairwell. To make the house
immediately livable, I put in some flooring that was trendy at the time. I figured if a product passed the Divine Design test of my HGTV guru, Candice
Olson, it was certainly more than worthy of installation in my home.
I’m still happy with most of the flooring I installed, but I have since
rescued a dog. Anyone who has
cared for larger dogs knows they can be hard on flooring. The area that has taken a beating is the stairwell landing where Toby likes
to hang out by a picture window that gives him a place to keep an eye on
what’s happening in our world. I
need to install a tougher material that can take heavy traffic.
Having decided on tile, since my animals love to soak up the sun in front of
that window, I have been researching DIY options. How I love to come across web pages that show an innovative home improvement
product in action. There are
many websites pushing products, but few that are exceptional when it comes to
demonstrating an actual installation. I appreciate a how-to presentation that is honest in sharing what went right
as well as lessons learned.
Here’s one of the best Squidoo lenses I found. KateHon demos a fabulous floating tile
flooring option while sharing before and after photos of a bathroom
renovation. I can see myself
installing this tile floor in my home. How about you?

Excellent tutorial for a DIYer. That's a really beautiful floor tile and perfect for places where you don't want to remove the old flooring first.
ReplyDeleteThe tile is gorgeous and the installation could not be any easier. Thanks for checking out the featured review. Appreciated!
DeleteThanks for sharing a great SnapStone installation article. That sure beats the old-fashioned method of laying a tile floor, which I have done. I love tile flooring and so does my dog. Tidbit lays on the cool tile all summer long to beat the heat. Now that she's older, though, I've noticed that she has a harder time getting up from the tile floor than she does on carpeted areas--the tile has no grip and her weak hind legs slide out from under her.
ReplyDeleteIt really speeds up the process when you don't have to rip anything up before laying the tile. When I lived in the South, on the Gulf of Mexico, the only flooring that made sense was tile. I've noticed that my animals love both the warmth and the coolness of tile depending on the time of year and where the sunshine beams in on it. It sure is tough when our beloved companions start having those mobility issues. Wishing you and Tidbit all the very best.
DeleteThis might be just the flooring I need for my new home. We have a couple of small areas that need something better than 1970s linoleum. Thank you for this great find! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteIt sure would be an excellent and quick way to update that linoleum (and cost-effective). Hope to see photos and a review if you decide to go this route. With your small areas, you could be done in half a day.
DeleteMy husband replaced the carpet in our bathroom with tile flooring and I absolutely love it! We also have dogs, who do like baths. They have even been known to step into the shower if given the opportunity. You can't imagine the mad dash to the shower on some mornings when we are just trying to get a real shower. Anyway, the ceramic tile he laid is perfect for water, dogs, steam, etc and is very easy to keep clean. Well worth the price! Oh, and did I hear something about a rubber mallet? lol
ReplyDeleteI can see why tile was the perfect choice for your bathroom. Dogs do love playing in water. I should have known you would notice that rubber mallet. Now you're going to want more tile just so you can have another go with the mallet. :-)
DeleteWe replace our linoleum floor in the kitchen with porcelain tile last fall and I really love it! My brother laid it for us so I didn't have to deal with that...but if I had the instructions KateHon gives in her lens are excellent.
ReplyDeleteNice to have a brother who is talented in the DIY arena. I can imagine your new tile looks fantastic.
DeleteI used this tile in my clubhouse (golf). It stood up to daily traffic in the hundreds +!! I am a big fan and know your Toby could not hurt it! Off to read the lens!!
ReplyDeleteIf the tile holds up in a clubhouse, for sure it will do well in a home with far less traffic. Thanks for affirming this choice. Appreciated!
