Last weekend I made a day trip to Assateague Island, Maryland. I met my oldest son and his girlfriend there
for the day. I have been there many, many
times and it is one of my favorite places to be.
Luckily, during this trip, I was a bit ahead of schedule and
I stopped at the “new” Visitors Center on the way. I say new because it was built a few years ago but I just never
bothered to stop. After all, I had visited the old Visitor’s Center, what more could
I possibly be missing? But I stopped anyway and found a gem hiding inside.
If you would like to see a list of more books related to
that area, have a peek at my reading list.
I welcome you to help me read or review these books. Some of the books I
have read and the remainder are on my to-read list. I’d love to know your
thoughts about any or all of them. Angelatvs wrote a wonderful review of Assateague Island of the Wild Ponies It was fantastic reading what she had to say about both the Island and the book
I have on my to-read list.
During the times that I am not able to physically travel to
the Island, I go there through the wonderful stories and photographs in books.
And don’t forget that I’m your Mid-Atlantic States Travel Contributor onSquidoo. If you want to travel this area from the
comfort of your favorite chair, please come along with me.

First, I absolutely must say, I love the photo! I assume that is one of the Wild Ponies of Assateague Island and she is beautiful! As I was reading, I couldn't help but think how it is always so cool to discover something new in an old familiar place. The book definitely sounds intriguing and educational. You always make me wish for a vacation in Maryland.
ReplyDeleteYes, that is a photo I took of a pony grazing on Assateague. I had trouble getting the caption in there correctly, then just forgot. Oops. It is not always easy to get a decent photo of the ponies, so I'm very pleased with my small collection of photos.
DeleteDawn, thank you for the great book reviews. I'm not a horse person, but I'm surrounded by people that grew up on the backs of horses. I must recommend these books to them.
ReplyDeleteColetta, Thank you! I think they will love the book.
DeleteI've wanted to visit the wild ponies of Assateague Island since reading about them as a young girl. Very high on my travel bucket list. I'm sure I would appreciate the book you reviewed. Thanks for providing us with such great reading and exploration options. Love the photo.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently visiting my son in Kansas City. He used to live in Maryland and I just asked him if he'd been able to visit Assateague Island while there. He said he was close, but never made it out to the island. Perhaps one day we can all come visit. I've never seen horses in the wild and would love to.
ReplyDeleteHorses have such a way of connecting to us. I love seeing your photos and reading your stories about this unique area of our country!
ReplyDeleteI just realized I promoted your book review all over the place but forgot to leave you a comment here to say--Awesome! I loved the review and, of course, your fabulous horse photos.
